7DS Grand Cross Cooking Guide: Recipes, Buffs & Tavern Income

Cooking in The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross is a two-part system: a dish eaten before a fight grants one team-wide combat buff for that battle, and the same recipe registered at the Boar Hat bar pays passive Gold forever after. Most players use half of it and wonder where their Gold went. There is a fuller breakdown in 7DS Grand Cross Servers Explained.

That split is the whole point, and it is why cooking sits oddly in most players' routines. The buff side is loud and obvious, because a +20% Crit Chance dish visibly changes a Demonic Beast run. The registration side is silent, because a recipe you registered in week two is still quietly paying out in month six without ever asking for your attention again. Players who treat the tavern as a pre-battle snack bar leave the second half of the system switched off, and the gap compounds across an account's whole lifetime. The recipes themselves are not random either; they follow a rigid grammar that becomes obvious the moment you see it, and once you can read that grammar you stop hunting recipe lists and start predicting what a combination will do before you cook it.

What is cooking in 7DS Grand Cross, and where does it happen?

Cooking happens at the Boar Hat tavern, reached through the knife-and-fork button at the bottom-left of the bar screen. You combine ingredients into a dish, then either eat it before a battle for a temporary team-wide buff or register it at the bar so it generates Gold at fixed intervals.

The tavern is the hub Meliodas runs in the source material, and Netmarble built the mechanic to match: it is the one screen in the game where progress comes from stocking a kitchen rather than clearing a stage. Everything you cook draws from an ingredient inventory filled by farming stages, and every dish you produce can go in one of two directions. Eating it consumes the dish for a single battle. Registering it consumes the dish permanently but converts it into an income line on the bar's menu, which is where the long-term value lives.

The system also gates itself early. At the start you can only combine two ingredients, which limits you to simple dishes with weak effects. Three-ingredient recipes, which is where every meaningful buff lives, unlock once Ban joins your party after clearing Episode 17 of the main quest. Until then, cooking is genuinely not worth optimising, and new accounts are better served pushing story than grinding ingredients. That gate is the first thing to check if your recipe list looks suspiciously short compared to any guide you're reading.

How does a recipe actually get made?

Every three-ingredient recipe follows the same grammar: a base ingredient, a modifier, and a special ingredient. The base and the special together decide the combat effect. The modifier changes only which hero the dish pleases as a gift, so it never touches the buff.

This is the single most useful thing to understand about the system, because it collapses a fifty-odd-recipe table into a handful of rules. There are six base ingredients in the standard list: Aged Meat, Organic Fruits and Vegetables, Organic Animal Milk, High-quality Chicken, Ordan Flour, and Smoked Jerky. Each base pairs with two or three special ingredients, and each of those base-plus-special pairs locks one effect. Grilled Beef with Herbs, Grilled Beef with Salt, and Grilled Beef with Pepper are three different dish names, three different affinity targets, and exactly one combat effect between them, because all three are Aged Meat plus Truffle.

The modifiers are the everyday pantry items: Salt, Pepper, Sugar, Honey, Butter, Milk, Egg, Vegetables, and Herbs. Swapping one for another produces a differently-named dish with an identical battle effect and a different favourite hero attached. That means you can always cook the version of an effect whose modifier you happen to be holding, and you never need to farm a specific pantry item to get a specific buff. You only need it when you are deliberately chasing a particular hero's affinity, which is a separate goal covered further down.

What do the combat effects actually do?

A registered dish eaten before a fight applies its effect to your whole team for that battle only. The documented effects run from flat stat percentages like Attack and Defense through to structural ones such as starting a battle with an extra Ultimate Move gauge or evading one enemy skill outright.

Grouped by base ingredient, the standard list looks like this. Aged Meat covers EXP Gain +100% with Bay Leaf, Attack +10% with Sliced Chicken Matango, and Pierce Rate +20% with Truffle. Organic Fruits and Vegetables covers Combat Class +10% with Truly Wild Strawberries, Regeneration Rate +20% with Fairy's Sprout, and Max HP +10% with Assorted Grapes. Organic Animal Milk covers Gold Gain +100% with Breath of Danafor, Defense +20% with Asparagus, and Resistance +30% with Glamorous Mountain Goat Milk.

The remaining three bases carry the effects most players actually chase. High-quality Chicken gives Crit Chance +20% with Mozzarella Cheese, Crit Damage +20% with Liones Rice, and a Festival Coin gain of +1000% on a Fight Festival win with Teriyaki Sauce. Ordan Flour gives Ultimate Move Gauge +1 at battle start with Adam's Apple, Crit Resistance +30% with Dried Fruit, and Crit Defense +30% with Assorted Clams. Smoked Jerky gives a once-per-battle evade of an Attack or Debuff skill with Potato, Recovery Rate +20% with Dragon Fruit, and Lifesteal +20% with Caviar.

Read that list as three categories rather than eighteen entries. There are farming multipliers (EXP, Gold, Festival Coin), offensive stats (Attack, Pierce, Crit Chance, Crit Damage, Combat Class), and defensive or sustain stats (Defense, Resistance, Crit Resistance, Crit Defense, Max HP, Regeneration, Recovery, Lifesteal, and the evade). Which category you want has almost nothing to do with which is strongest and everything to do with what you are about to queue into.

Which dishes matter for which content?

Match the dish to the failure mode of the content. Farming stages you already clear comfortably want a multiplier, not a stat. Content you are losing to wants whichever stat you are actually short of, and content decided by a coin flip wants Crit or the evade. For the detail behind that, see how banners, pity bars and Hero Coins work. For the detail behind that, see Gear Sets Explained Bonuses and Role Fits.

Because farming multipliers do nothing in a fight you were going to win anyway, they are close to free value on any stage you auto-clear. The Gold Gain +100% and EXP Gain +100% dishes double the output of a farming session you were already running, which is why they belong in your rotation on any day you plan to burn stamina in bulk rather than in the middle of a difficult push. The Festival Coin dish is narrower still: its +1000% only applies on a Fight Festival win, so it is worth eating only when you expect to actually take the match, but at that multiplier a single win pays for the ingredients many times over.

Progression content flips the logic. Against a Demonic Beast where your damage check is tight, Crit Chance or Crit Damage does more than Attack, because both compound with the crit-scaling that most 7DS damage kits are built around. Against PvP opponents who open with a burst, Crit Resistance and Crit Defense blunt exactly the thing that kills you, while the Smoked Jerky evade can absorb a single opening debuff that would otherwise decide the match before you act. Regeneration and Lifesteal earn their place in longer attrition fights where you survive the opener but lose the war of sustain. The Ultimate Move Gauge dish is the odd one out and often the strongest of the lot, since it effectively hands your team a free turn of tempo in any fight short enough that a single ultimate settles it.

What does registering a recipe at the bar earn you?

Registering a cooked dish adds it to the Boar Hat's menu, and a registered recipe then generates Gold on a fixed timer that you collect by returning to the bar. The dish is consumed, but the income line is permanent, which makes registration a one-time cost with an open-ended payoff.

The interval is set by the recipe, not by you, and the standard list uses three timers: 1 hour, 3 hours, and 24 hours. The Organic Fruits and Vegetables and Smoked Jerky families pay every hour. The Aged Meat and High-quality Chicken families pay every three hours. The Organic Animal Milk and Ordan Flour families pay on a full-day cycle. Shorter timers suit players who open the game repeatedly through the day, while the 24-hour lines suit anyone who logs in once and clears everything in a single session, since a 1-hour recipe you never collect is worth far less than its interval suggests.

The important habit here is that registration is not a decision you make once and forget. Every recipe you have never registered is an income line you do not have, and because the cost is a single cooked dish, the correct long-run answer is to register everything eventually. What varies is the order, and the order should follow whichever timers your actual play pattern lets you collect. This is also where cooking quietly supports the rest of your economy, and it pairs naturally with the broader progression picture laid out in the 7DS Grand Cross beginner's guide to heroes, Diamonds and teams.

How does recipe level change the payout?

Cooking the same recipe repeatedly raises its level, and a higher-level recipe registers for more Gold per interval. A level 1 line and a level 5 line of the same dish are not close, which is why repeat cooking is worth more than breadth once your menu is populated.

The mechanic rewards a behaviour most players resist, because cooking the same dish over and over feels like standing still while a new recipe feels like progress. In income terms the opposite is true: a deep menu of level 1 recipes pays a trickle from many lines, whereas a focused set of high-level recipes pays properly from fewer. The usual community advice is to raise recipe levels in parallel with character development rather than in a separate grind, since the ingredients you accumulate while farming for hero materials are the same ingredients cooking consumes. Our guide breaks down Combat Guide Card Ranks, Combos and Ultimate Moves.

Because ingredient supply is the real constraint, level up the recipes whose ingredients you already collect as a by-product of your normal farming route. A recipe built on a special ingredient you have to make a dedicated trip for will stall at a low level and pay accordingly, so it is usually better to push a mid-value dish to a high level than to keep a high-value dish permanently at level 1.

Where do the ingredients come from?

Ingredients drop from stages, and the game will tell you which one. Tapping an ingredient inside the cooking screen opens a Location function that points to the specific dungeon or stage where it drops, so you never have to guess or cross-reference an external list.

That built-in lookup is the reason ingredient farming does not need to be a research project. The practical approach is to work backwards: decide which effects you actually want on your rotation, note the two ingredients that produce them, and check whether those stages overlap with the stamina you were already going to spend. Modifiers rarely bottleneck anything because they are common and interchangeable, so the special ingredient is almost always the item that determines whether a recipe is sustainable for you.

Ingredient pressure also shifts as an account matures. Early on, everything is scarce and the sensible move is to cook whatever your farming route already produces. Later, once stamina is plentiful and your farming is efficient, the constraint moves from ingredients to attention, and the question becomes which registered lines you are actually returning to collect. Accounts that have already crossed that threshold tend to have deep tavern menus alongside developed rosters, which is part of why endgame 7DS Grand Cross accounts look so different from fresh ones well beyond their hero lists.

How does food feed the affinity and affection systems?

Every hero has an affinity gauge, and giving that hero their favourite dish raises it. Affinity runs from level 1 to level 5, with each level paying a fixed reward, and it is tracked separately for every version of a character rather than shared across them.

The rewards escalate in a specific order: level 1 unlocks a hero illustration, level 2 unlocks the character voice, level 3 pays 1 Diamond, level 4 unlocks a hero motion, and level 5 unlocks a cosmetic outfit. The Diamond at level 3 is trivial on its own but adds up across a roster, and the cosmetic at level 5 is the reason most players push a favourite hero all the way. Ale and Affinity Increase Elixirs raise the same gauge, so food is one route rather than the only one.

This is precisely where the modifier ingredient stops being cosmetic. Because the modifier decides the favourite-hero tag while the effect stays fixed, you can farm affinity for a specific hero and get a useful battle buff from the identical cooking action. Affection is the related but separate track, raised by fighting with a hero on your team, choosing the right dialogue options, and giving gifts. Maxing affection produces a heart, and your heart cap scales with both how many heroes you own and how high your individual affinity levels have climbed, which means the two systems pull each other upward rather than competing.

How should you build a cooking routine?

Treat it as three separate habits on three different clocks: register anything unregistered whenever you cook, level the recipes whose ingredients your farming route already supplies, and eat a dish only when it changes the outcome of what you are about to do.

The first habit is the one that pays quietly. If you cooked it and it is not on the bar's menu yet, register it, because a duplicate can always be cooked again and an unregistered recipe earns nothing. The second habit is where discipline matters most: pick a small set of recipes tied to ingredients you passively accumulate and push those to high levels rather than spreading effort across the full list. The third habit is about restraint. A stat dish eaten on content you were always going to clear is wasted, while a farming multiplier eaten during a bulk stamina session is close to free value.

Where players most often go wrong is in the gap between those habits. They cook constantly for buffs, eat everything they make, and never register anything, so the tavern stays a snack bar and the passive Gold line never opens. If you only change one thing after reading this, make it that: cook the dish, register it first, and cook a second one to eat.

Common questions about cooking in 7DS Grand Cross

Does a food buff last more than one battle? No. A dish eaten before a fight applies to that battle only, which is why farming multipliers are best used on bulk sessions where you re-eat between runs rather than saved for a single hard clear.

Do I lose the recipe when I register it? You consume the cooked dish, not the recipe. Registration adds a permanent income line to the bar, and you can keep cooking the same dish afterwards both to raise its level and to eat it.

Why do three differently-named dishes have the same effect? Because the effect comes from the base and special ingredients, while the modifier only sets the favourite-hero tag. Grilled Beef with Salt, Herbs, and Pepper are all Aged Meat plus Truffle, so all three give Pierce Rate.

Is cooking worth doing on a brand-new account? Only lightly. Three-ingredient recipes need Ban, who joins after Episode 17 of the main quest, and two-ingredient dishes are weak enough that story progress is a better use of early time.

Does affinity carry across different versions of the same hero? No. The gauge is tracked separately for each version, so raising affinity on one variant does not raise it on another, though the unlocked rewards apply to the version you levelled.
