Wuthering Waves Convene Guide: Pity System, Rates and Banners

Convene is Wuthering Waves' gacha system, and the short version is this: every 5-star has a 0.8% base rate, soft pity begins climbing around pull 65 to 70, and a 5-star is guaranteed by pull 80 on every banner. The featured Resonator banner adds a 50/50; the weapon banner does not. If that part matters to you, Wuthering Waves Account Progression Explained goes deeper.

That single difference between the two banner families is the most important thing a Wuthering Waves player can understand about pulling, because it changes how far your Astrite actually stretches. A weapon you want costs a predictable number of pulls. A character you want can cost twice what the pity counter suggests. Everything below builds on that gap.

🎯 What is Convene, and what currencies feed it?

Convene is the banner system where Resonators and weapons are drawn using Tide items. You spend 160 Astrite per pull, or spend the Tide directly if you already hold it. Astrite is the premium currency; Tides are the tickets Astrite converts into.

Three Tide types map to three banner families, and they are not interchangeable. Lustrous Tide pulls on the limited Featured Resonator Convene. Forging Tide pulls on the Featured Weapon Convene. Radiant Tide pulls on the permanent standard banner. Kuro Games separates them deliberately, so a stockpile of one Tide type does nothing for a banner it does not belong to.

Astrite itself arrives from almost every activity in the game: exploration chests, first-clear rewards on Tower of Adversity and Whimpering Wastes, daily activity points, the Battle Pass track, event quests, and maintenance compensation. That breadth matters because it means pull income is tied to how much of the game you actually finish, not to how much you log in. A player who clears endgame content each cycle earns meaningfully more than one who only completes dailies.

🎲 What are the real drop rates behind each pull?

The base rate for a 5-star is 0.8% per pull and the base rate for a 4-star is 6%. A 4-star or better is guaranteed at least once every 10 pulls, and a 5-star is guaranteed by pull 80. Those numbers are published in the in-game details panel on every banner.

The 0.8% figure is misleading on its own, because nobody actually pulls at 0.8% for eighty attempts. The published consolidated rate, which folds in the pity curve, lands closer to 1.8%, and that consolidated figure is the honest way to think about long-run cost. If you plan around 0.8% you will assume the system is far crueller than it is; if you plan around the guarantee at 80 you will assume it is far more generous.

The 4-star guarantee inside every ten pulls also explains why ten-pulls feel steadier than singles even though the underlying odds are identical. There is no hidden bonus for pulling ten at once. You simply see the guarantee resolve on a fixed cadence instead of scattered across a longer stretch.

📈 How do soft pity and hard pity actually work?

Hard pity is the absolute ceiling: at pull 80 the game hands you a 5-star whether the roll succeeded or not. Soft pity is the ramp before it. Community pull-tracking consistently places the sharp increase somewhere around pulls 65 to 70, and most 5-stars land in that window rather than at 80.

Because soft pity does most of the work, the practical average cost of a 5-star sits below the hard ceiling, and that is the number worth budgeting against. Treating 80 as your expected cost builds in a cushion; treating 65 as your expected cost sets you up to be short at the worst moment.

Your pity counter carries across banners of the same family. When a Featured Resonator Convene ends and a new one begins, the count you built does not reset, which is why holding pulls late in one patch is not wasted effort. It rolls forward into the next character you actually want.

🔀 How does the 50/50 work on the Featured Resonator Convene?

On the limited character banner, hitting a 5-star does not guarantee the featured Resonator. There is a 50% chance the 5-star is the banner character and a 50% chance it is a standard-pool Resonator instead. Lose that coin flip and the next 5-star you pull is guaranteed to be the featured one. For the detail behind that, see Resonator Priority Which Characters to Build First.

This is the mechanic that doubles your worst-case cost, and it is where most planning goes wrong. Winning the 50/50 can mean a featured Resonator inside 70 pulls. Losing it can mean roughly 160 pulls before the character is yours, because you have to climb the pity curve a second time. Both outcomes are completely normal, and neither one says anything about your account.

The guarantee flag is sticky, which is the redeeming half of the system. If you lose a 50/50 and stop pulling, that guarantee waits for you on the next Featured Resonator Convene. Many experienced players deliberately end a patch holding a guarantee, because it turns the following banner into a fixed, knowable cost instead of a coin flip.

In plain terms: your true budget for a character you must have is not 80 pulls, it is 160. Anything less than that is a bet, not a plan.

🗡️ Why is the weapon banner cheaper to plan around?

The Featured Weapon Convene has the same 0.8% base rate and the same 80-pull guarantee, but no 50/50. When the 5-star hits, it is the featured weapon. That single removal makes the weapon banner the most predictable spend in Wuthering Waves.

The consequence is easy to miss. A signature weapon has a hard ceiling of 80 pulls; a signature character has a hard ceiling of about 160. So the weapon is frequently the cheaper half of a full investment even though players instinctively treat it as the optional luxury. If your account is short on 5-star weapons but deep on Resonators, the weapon banner is often the better place for a fixed budget.

Forging Tide runs on its own pity counter, completely separate from the character banner. Pulling weapons never advances your character pity and never spends your character guarantee, so the two budgets have to be planned as two budgets. For the detail behind that, see Wuthering Waves Resonance Chain Explained.

🧭 What about the standard and beginner banners?

The permanent standard banner uses Radiant Tide, carries the same 0.8% rate and 80-pull guarantee, and draws from the standard Resonator and weapon pool rather than any featured unit. It also has its own independent pity, so nothing you do there touches limited banners.

New accounts additionally get a discounted beginner Convene, which is the single best value in the game and should be finished early rather than saved. It exists to get a starting 5-star into your roster quickly, and there is no strategic reason to delay it. Standard-pool 5-stars from either banner are permanently available, which means they will never be time-gated away from you. Our guide breaks down Servers Explained Regions, Cross-Save and UIDs.

The practical read on the standard banner is that it is a place for spare Radiant Tide, not a place for planning. Because the pool is wide and permanent, you cannot target anything, so it works best as a background trickle while your Lustrous Tide goes toward characters you specifically want.

💠 How much Astrite does a guaranteed character actually cost?

At 160 Astrite per pull, 80 pulls costs 12,800 Astrite and the 160-pull worst case for a featured Resonator costs 25,600 Astrite. Those two numbers are the entire budgeting exercise, and everything else is just deciding which of them you are saving toward.

Set against typical patch income, that framing gets useful fast. A player clearing most of a patch's content, running both endgame modes, and finishing event quests will generally accumulate enough for a comfortable single-character guarantee per patch cycle, but not enough for two guaranteed characters plus a signature weapon. So the real decision is rarely "can I afford this character." It is "which one of the three things on this banner am I willing to skip."

Because Astrite income scales with content completion, the cheapest way to raise your pull budget is not spending. It is clearing the endgame modes you have been avoiding. Tower of Adversity and Whimpering Wastes reset on a cycle and pay out again each time, so a player who skips them is leaving a recurring Astrite stream unclaimed.

📆 How should you pace pulls across a patch?

Decide before the banner opens, not during it. Pick one target per patch, work out whether you need the 80-pull or 160-pull number, and only pull once you hold that amount or hold a guarantee that reduces it. Pulling on impulse at 20 saved Tides is how accounts end a patch with nothing.

The discipline that separates comfortable accounts from frustrated ones is holding a guarantee across a patch boundary. A guarantee is stored value: it converts the next banner from an uncertain 160-pull risk into a near-certain 80-pull cost. Spending it on a character you only mildly want destroys that value, which is why "I lost the 50/50, so I might as well keep going" is usually the more expensive choice rather than the cheaper one.

It is also worth pulling with your roster in mind rather than your wishlist. A duplicate damage dealer in a role you already cover adds far less to your account than a missing sustain or a missing element, because Wuthering Waves teams are built around role coverage and Concerto flow. The pull that improves your account most is usually the one that fills a hole, not the one that stacks a strength.

⚠️ What are the costliest Convene mistakes?

Four errors account for most wasted Astrite: pulling without a target, spending a guarantee on a low-priority unit, converting Astrite into the wrong Tide type, and skipping endgame content that funds the next banner. Each one is avoidable with a decision made before the banner goes live.

Converting Astrite into Tides you do not need deserves specific attention, because it is the one mistake that is difficult to walk back. Tides are banner-specific, so turning Astrite into Forging Tide when your real goal is a character leaves you holding tickets for a banner you did not want. Convert only when you are ready to pull.

The last mistake is emotional rather than mechanical. Losing a 50/50 feels like the system cheated you, and the instinct is to keep pulling until it corrects itself. It will not correct itself; the counter simply continues. Stopping after a lost 50/50 and banking the guarantee is almost always the stronger play, because it turns a bad outcome into a discount on the next character you want.

🔗 How do Resonance Chains change the value of a repeat pull?

Every duplicate copy of a 5-star Resonator advances its Resonance Chain, the sequence of six upgrades that sharpen a character's kit. Duplicates are therefore never wasted, but they are also the least efficient Astrite you will ever spend, because the jump from zero copies to one is larger than any chain step that follows.

The reason matters for budgeting. A first copy adds a whole unit, a whole element and a whole role to your account. A chain node adds a percentage, a shorter cooldown or an extra stack to a unit you already field. So the honest comparison is not "is this chain node good," it is "is this chain node better than the next character I do not own yet," and for most accounts under a year old the answer is no.

There is one common exception. If a chain node removes a real constraint rather than adding raw numbers, such as fixing an energy problem that forces an awkward rotation, it can be worth more than its percentage suggests, because it changes how the character is played instead of how hard she hits. Those nodes are the only duplicates most players should plan a budget around.

Weapon duplicates work differently again. A signature weapon has no chain to advance, so a second copy is genuinely surplus for almost every account, which is another argument for capping weapon banner spending at a single 5-star per patch.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Does pity reset when a banner ends?

No. Your pity count and your guarantee flag carry over to the next banner in the same family, so pulls made late in a patch are never wasted.

Do character and weapon banners share pity?

No. Featured Resonator Convene, Featured Weapon Convene, and the standard banner each track pity independently.

Is a 10-pull better than ten single pulls?

No. The odds are identical. The 4-star guarantee inside every ten pulls resolves the same way either method you use.

Can you lose the 50/50 twice in a row?

No. After a lost 50/50 the next 5-star on the Featured Resonator Convene is guaranteed to be the featured Resonator.

Are standard-pool 5-stars ever removed?

No. Standard Resonators and weapons remain permanently available, which is why limited characters deserve priority when your Astrite is limited.
