NTE Gold Clash Guide: Does 2x Fons Actually Raise Your Ceiling?

Gold Clash runs 31 August 05:00 to 14 September 04:59 (server time) and does one thing: doubles Fons payouts from Pink Paws Heist runs.

Before you plan around it, there's a question worth answering that no announcement has addressed. Pink Paws Heist has a bi-weekly Fons cap of roughly 1 million. Gold Clash runs for exactly fourteen days — one cap cycle. So the doubling either raises what you can bank in that period, or it simply lets you hit the same ceiling in half the runs.

Those two outcomes call for completely different play. Here's how to tell which one you're in, and what to do in each case.

The two scenarios

Scenario A — the multiplier stacks on top of the cap. Your effective ceiling for the fortnight doubles. Gold Clash becomes the single most valuable Fons window of Version 1.3, and clearing it fully is worth reorganising your week around.

Scenario B — the cap holds at ~1 million. The multiplier doesn't increase what you bank; it halves the runs needed to get there. Still useful — you reclaim hours — but it's a convenience event, not an income event, and there's no reason to grind past the cap.

How to check on day one: run a single heist, extract, and compare the Fons credited against your cap progress. If cap progress advances at double rate alongside the payout, you're in Scenario B. If the payout doubles while cap progress tracks the base value, you're in Scenario A.

Plan for B until proven otherwise. Assuming the generous case and being wrong costs you a fortnight of misallocated effort. Assuming the conservative case and being wrong costs you nothing — you just bank more than expected.

Why the cap makes this event different

Most double-reward events in NTE multiply an uncapped or stamina-gated activity, where more play straightforwardly means more output. Gold Clash doesn't work that way, because Pink Paws Heist consumes no City Stamina. Its limiter isn't energy, it's the cap.

That inverts the usual advice. In a stamina-gated event, you play as much as your stamina allows. Here, past a certain point, additional runs return nothing at all — so the useful question isn't "how much can I play" but "how few runs do I need."

In Scenario B, roughly half your usual run count clears the fortnight. Everything beyond that is time you could have spent on Shipwreck Salvage or Hunter's Crucible, both of which are running concurrently and both of which close 30 September.

Getting the most from each run

The multiplier applies to what you successfully extract, which makes run quality matter more than usual — a doubled zero is still zero.

Extraction is everything. Runs last 12 minutes, and you leave through ReroRero Phone Booths. If the timer expires or your team goes down, the entire run's earnings are lost. During Gold Clash that's twice the loss for the same mistake.

Taking damage can cost you earnings, so clean routing beats aggressive clearing. Fighting everything is not the goal.

Extract early when in doubt. Booths can close over time, so the sensible pattern is to stop exploring with a couple of minutes left and begin heading out rather than pushing one more room.

For the route itself — which enemies to prioritise, where safes spawn, and the floor-by-floor path — our Pink Paws Heist farming guide covers the optimal run in detail. This guide is about when to run it; that one is about how.

If you haven't unlocked the heist yet

Gold Clash is worthless to you until Pink Paws Heist is open, and the requirement is substantial: City Tycoon Rank 10, which means around 1.5 million total Fons earned and House Collection Level 3, then speaking to Chiz at Pink Paws Bank HQ in the New Herland District.

If you're short, the eight days before 31 August are the window to close the gap. Unlocking mid-event means losing days of doubled payouts you can't recover, since the event doesn't extend.

Where it sits in the September calendar

Gold Clash doesn't run alone, and the overlaps decide how you spend the fortnight:

  • Shipwreck Salvage, Breezy Tour — 28 August to 30 September
  • Volley Star, Surf Breaker, Hunter's Crucible — 19 August to 30 September
  • Gold Clash — 31 August to 14 September
  • Runaway Echoes — opens 9 September
  • Pixel Surge — 14 September to 21 September, doubling Houdinii's, Bubble Can Factory and Rabbit Hole rewards
  • Fons Rush — 21 September to 28 September, doubling Fons from Hethereau Hobbies

Gold Clash is the tightest window of the three Fons events, and the only one that closes before the 30 September cluster. Front-load it — the events it competes with have two more weeks of runway, and it doesn't.

Our Version 1.3 stream recap has the full schedule alongside the banner dates for Zankou and Linko.

Still unconfirmed

  • Whether the multiplier raises the cap or only accelerates progress toward it. The decisive question, and one only in-game testing on 31 August will settle.
  • Whether Paw-Paw Coins are doubled alongside Fons, or only the currency.
  • Whether the cap cycle aligns with the event window or resets partway through, which would change the maths again.

Fons is the slow half of an NTE account

Properties, vehicles, outfits and affection gifts all run on Fons, and the cap means it accumulates on the game's schedule rather than yours. Doubling events help, but they can't rewrite a ceiling.
