HSR Reroll and Starter Accounts: What You Actually Get
By Sir Ayup 9 October 2026, 15:00 WIB
An HSR reroll account is a fresh Honkai: Star Rail account that someone has played just far enough to spend its early Warps, kept because those pulls landed a 5-star character worth starting with. A starter account goes a little further, usually adding a limited 5-star or a stock of saved Stellar Jade on a low Trailblaze Level. What you actually get is a head start on the roster, not on progress: the story, the map and the endgame are still ahead of you, which is exactly why these accounts suit new players.
This guide explains how rerolling works in Honkai: Star Rail, what a reroll or starter account typically contains, what to check before you buy one, and when it makes more sense to reroll yourself.
How Rerolling Works in Honkai: Star Rail
Rerolling means creating a new account, playing until you can Warp, spending the free pulls, and starting over if the result is poor. In Honkai: Star Rail, that loop is slow:
- There is no guest login, so every attempt needs a new HoYoverse account and email address.
- Warping unlocks after the opening Herta Space Station section, which takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes with story scenes that cannot be skipped.
- You start with about 20 Star Rail Passes at that point, and more arrive as your Trailblaze Level rises, with enough to finish the beginner banner by around Trailblaze Level 15, roughly two to three hours in.
The beginner banner, called the Departure Warp, is the centre of every reroll. It has 50 pulls, sold in sets of ten for eight passes each, a 20% discount, and it guarantees one 5-star character within those 50 pulls. That 5-star comes from the standard pool: Welt, Bronya, Himeko, Clara, Bailu, Gepard or Yanqing. You cannot choose which one, and Departure Warp pity does not carry over to any other banner.
So a full reroll, played through to the Departure guarantee, can take two hours or more per attempt. That time cost is the main reason reroll and starter accounts exist.
Reroll Account vs Starter Account

A Honkai: Star Rail reroll account and a Honkai: Star Rail starter account are often treated as the same thing, but the names usually describe different levels of play:
- Reroll account: a brand-new account at a low Trailblaze Level, with one or more standard 5-star characters from the Departure Warp and the first Stellar Warp pulls. Most of the early free rewards may still be unclaimed.
- Starter account: an account played a little further, often with a limited 5-star character from a Character Event Warp, sometimes a 5-star Light Cone, and some Stellar Jade or passes saved for the next banner.
Neither has much real progress. Expect a low Trailblaze Level, most of the story untouched, few characters built, and no endgame clears. For a new player, that is a feature: you still get to play the game from the start, just with a stronger first team than a typical fresh account.
What You Actually Get

When you buy an HSR starter account, the value sits in a short list of things:
- The 5-star characters, especially any limited ones, since those cannot be pulled again until a rerun.
- Eidolons and Light Cones, if the account pulled duplicates or a signature Light Cone.
- Unspent Stellar Jade and passes, which give you pulls on the next banner you want.
- Pity and guarantee status, since an account that lost its 50/50 on the limited banner is guaranteed the featured character next time.
- Unclaimed early rewards, such as newcomer events and Trailblaze Level rewards that still pay out as you play.
What you do not get is time saved on progression. Building characters, clearing the story and reaching endgame modes still take weeks, as laid out in how long it takes to reach endgame.
It helps to know how the main banners work before you judge a listing. A limited Character Event Warp guarantees a 5-star within 90 pulls, with a 50/50 between the featured character and a standard one, and the Light Cone banner guarantees a 5-star within 80 pulls with a 75/25 in the featured Light Cone's favour. The full numbers, and how much Stellar Jade a guarantee costs, are covered in the Warp math for full pity.
An HSR Account Checker: What to Verify Before You Buy

Reroll and starter accounts are cheap, so it is tempting to skip the checks. A few minutes of checking avoids most problems:
- Confirm the server. Honkai: Star Rail progress is separate on America, Europe, Asia and TW, HK, MO, and an account cannot move between them.
- Match the UID to the screenshots. Ask for a short screen recording of the profile with the UID visible, then the character list, Light Cones and inventory.
- Check the Warp records. The Warp history shows what was pulled and on which banner, and lets you work out the current pity and whether the next limited 5-star is guaranteed.
- Count the Stellar Jade and passes, and confirm which kind of pass they are, since standard passes only work on the Departure and Stellar Warps.
- Confirm the email is included. The account should come with a fresh email inbox that the seller hands over in full, so you can change the password and recovery details yourself.
That last point matters more than anything on the roster. Changing the bound email on a HoYoverse account needs a code from the current inbox, so a seller who keeps it can take the account back. Reroll accounts are usually made with fresh emails specifically so they can be handed over cleanly. A listing that offers only a login, with no inbox, is not worth the saving.
It is also worth knowing the rules. HoYoverse's terms do not allow accounts to be sold or transferred, and HoYoverse will not step in if a private sale goes wrong. Pay through a checkout that holds your money until you have logged in and confirmed everything matches, rather than paying a seller directly.
Which Characters Are Worth Starting With
On a reroll account, the standard 5-star you get matters, because it is likely to be on your team for a long time. A rough guide to the seven options:
- Bronya: the easiest strong pick for beginners, a support who speeds up and strengthens your damage dealer.
- Welt: a strong long-term pick who slows and controls enemies, though harder to play and build well.
- Himeko: excellent at clearing groups of enemies, especially in modes with many waves.
- Gepard: a dependable shielder who keeps a new team alive.
- Clara and Bailu: solid but more situational, useful depending on what else the account has.
- Yanqing: generally the weakest of the standard pool for a starting account.
On a starter account, a recent limited 5-star usually outweighs any standard one, especially if it comes with a supporting 4-star or two. Whatever the roster, new players get up to speed faster with the beginner's guide to Warps, characters and Stellar Jade.
Reroll Yourself or Buy a Starter Account?
Both are reasonable choices, and the right one depends on how you value your time:
- Reroll yourself if you enjoy the opening hours, do not mind repeating them, and are happy to settle for a good standard 5-star. It costs nothing but time, and the account is yours from its very first login.
- Buy a reroll or starter account if you want a specific character, especially a limited one, without spending many hours or several attempts chasing it. You still play the story yourself, just with a stronger opening team.
- Do neither if you are happy to start fresh. The Departure Warp guarantee and early events give every new account a solid start, and saving Stellar Jade for a character you really want goes a long way, as the free Jade guide for Version 4.6 shows.
If you decide a head start is worth it, you can compare Honkai: Star Rail Accounts that list their server, characters, Warp records and email access up front, hand the daily Trailblaze Power routine on your new account to a player through Honkai: Star Rail Hourly Services, or clear Memory of Chaos and other endgame goals faster with Honkai: Star Rail Boosting.
