Is Genshin Impact Cross-Platform? Crossplay, Co-op and Offline Play
By Sir Ayup 6 October 2026, 20:00 WIB
Is Genshin Impact cross-platform? Yes: players on PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation and Xbox can play together in co-op, and one HoYoverse account carries the same progress across all of them. There are two catches that trip people up. Crossplay only works between players on the same server region, and Genesis Crystals bought through one platform's store do not follow you to another. Genshin also cannot be played offline at all, because your progress lives on HoYoverse's servers rather than on your device.
This guide covers how crossplay and cross-save work, what co-op lets you do together, and why there is no offline mode.
Is Genshin Impact Cross-Platform? How Crossplay Works
Genshin Impact runs on PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which joined on November 20, 2024. Crossplay connects all of them, so a friend on a phone can join a friend on a console or PC in the same world without any setting to switch on.
The one rule that matters is the server. Genshin splits players into regions: America, Europe, Asia and TW, HK, MO. You can only play with people on the same server, whatever device they use. A player on the Asia server cannot join a friend on the Europe server, even if both are on PC. Each server also keeps its own separate save, so starting on a second server means starting from scratch there.
If you are planning to play with a group, agree on the server before anyone creates a character. Choosing the right region at the start saves a lot of frustration later, because there is no way to move a save from one server to another.
Cross-Save: One Account Across PC, Mobile and Console
Cross-save is what lets you play the same save on different devices. It runs through your HoYoverse account:
- PC and mobile: sign in with the same HoYoverse account and your progress loads, with no extra steps.
- PlayStation: link your PSN account to your HoYoverse account through the linking prompt the game shows, and your progress becomes shared with PC and mobile.
- Xbox: sign in with or link your HoYoverse account to bring your existing save onto the console.
PlayStation linking comes with stricter rules. A PSN account can only be linked once and cannot be unlinked afterwards, and linking expects one side to be new: you cannot merge two accounts that both already have progress. PlayStation linking is also not available on the TW, HK, MO server. Before you confirm, make sure the HoYoverse account you are linking is the one holding the save you want to keep.
What Carries Over Between Platforms and What Doesn't
Almost everything you earn in the game follows your account between devices. A few things stay tied to where you bought or earned them:
- Carries over: characters, weapons, artifacts, Adventure Rank, quests, exploration and Primogems.
- Stays on its platform: Genesis Crystals bought through a platform's own store. Crystals purchased on PC do not appear on PlayStation, and the reverse is also true, so it makes sense to top up on the device where you will spend them.
- Platform rewards: some items, like PlayStation's exclusive Wings, only work on the platform they came from.
The practical tip is to pick one main platform for purchases. Your characters and Primogems go everywhere, but a Genesis Crystal balance split across devices is easy to lose track of.
Is Genshin Impact Multiplayer? What Co-op Lets You Do
Genshin is a single-player story at heart, with co-op added on top. Co-op unlocks at Adventure Rank 16 and supports up to 4 players in one world, with characters split by party size: two each in a pair, one each in a full party of four, and two for the host in a party of three.
Together, you can explore the open world, fight world bosses and Domains, gather materials, and clear events that support co-op. Combining characters from different players also lets you build stronger elemental combos than one roster might manage alone, and understanding how elemental reactions and team roles fit together makes those mixed parties far more effective.
Co-op also has clear limits, especially for guests in someone else's world:
- Story and Archon Quests cannot be played together, and a host who is in the middle of certain quests cannot invite others.
- Guests cannot open chests, collect Oculi or use shops in the host's world; the host still can.
- Endgame content such as the Spiral Abyss is single-player only.
In practice, co-op works best for farming bosses and Domains with friends, helping newer players through tough fights, and simply exploring together, rather than for progressing the story side by side.
Why You Can't Join a Friend on Another Platform
When cross-platform co-op does not work, the cause is almost always one of a handful of settings rather than the platform itself. Work through these in order:
- Check the server: each player's UID starts with a digit that shows their server, with 6 for America, 7 for Europe, 8 for Asia and 9 for TW, HK, MO. If the first digits differ, you are on different servers and cannot play together.
- Check Adventure Rank: both players need to be AR 16 or higher before co-op opens up.
- Check the host's join setting: in the co-op menu, the host can allow players to join directly, require approval, or block joining entirely. A host set to block joining will never show up as available.
- Check what the host is doing: a host in the middle of certain story quests, a Domain or a challenge cannot accept visitors until they finish.
- Check the connection: co-op is more sensitive to unstable connections than solo play, and a weak signal on either side can drop the session.
Adding friends works the same way on every platform: search for their UID from the Friends menu and send a request. Once you are friends on the same server, joining is a single tap from the co-op screen.
Is Genshin Impact Offline? Why It Always Needs Internet
No, Genshin Impact cannot be played offline. Every session needs an active internet connection, even if you only play solo and never touch co-op. Your account data is stored on HoYoverse's servers, and the game checks in constantly for events, resets and rewards.
That has a few practical effects:
- A dropped connection sends you back to the login screen, and anything not yet saved by the server may be lost.
- Server maintenance during version updates makes the game unavailable for everyone until it ends.
- On mobile data, a stable connection matters more than raw speed, though large updates are best downloaded on Wi-Fi.
Because the game is always online, a weak connection affects even single-player combat, since inputs and enemy behaviour are checked against the server. If you play on the move, expect occasional disconnects in areas with patchy signal.
Choosing Your Platform for Crossplay
With crossplay and cross-save covering every platform, the choice of device comes down to how you want to play:
- PC: the best balance of graphics and controls, and the easiest platform to share a save with mobile.
- Mobile: the most convenient for daily commissions and Resin spending, as long as your phone has the storage and keeps cool during long sessions.
- PlayStation or Xbox: a comfortable couch setup with a controller, but link your HoYoverse account carefully, since PlayStation links cannot be undone.
- Any combination: since progress follows your account, many players explore on PC or console and handle dailies on their phone.
Whatever you choose, settle your server first, keep Genesis Crystal purchases on one platform, and secure your HoYoverse login, since it is the key to every device you play on. Patch content, such as the characters and bosses added in the Genshin Impact 7.1 update, arrives on every platform at the same time, so no one in a cross-platform group gets left behind.
Playing across devices makes Genshin easy to fit into any routine, but it does not shorten the climb to Adventure Rank 16 and beyond, or the months of building a roster strong enough for endgame. If you want to join your friends with a stronger account from the start, you can look at Genshin Impact Accounts on the server your group plays on, hand daily commissions and Resin farming to a player through Genshin Impact Hourly Services, or clear Spiral Abyss and other endgame goals with Genshin Impact Boosting.
