Is Genshin Impact on Switch, Xbox or Mac? Platform Guide

Is Genshin Impact on Switch? No. A Nintendo Switch version was announced back in 2020 but has never been released, and there is no confirmed Switch 2 version either. Genshin Impact is on Xbox, though: it arrived on Xbox Series X|S in November 2024. On Mac there is no native version, but you can still play through cloud streaming. Officially, the game runs on PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, all sharing one account.
This guide goes platform by platform: what is available, what is not, what has been rumoured, and the realistic ways to play if your device is not on the list.
Where You Can Play Genshin Impact Today

As of late 2026, Genshin Impact is officially available on:
- PC (Windows): through the official launcher and the Epic Games Store.
- iOS and Android: free from the App Store and Google Play, on phones and tablets.
- PlayStation 5: with its own native version.
- Xbox Series X|S: since November 2024, including through the Xbox app on PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
One platform has dropped off the list. The PlayStation 4 version was removed from sale in September 2025, and support ended completely in April 2026, so PS4 owners now need a PS5 or another device.
All of these platforms use the same HoYoverse account, so your characters and progress follow you between them, as long as you stay on the same server. How co-op and cross-save work across devices is covered in Genshin Impact’s crossplay and co-op guide.
Is Genshin Impact on Switch?
Not yet, and possibly never on the original Switch. HoYoverse announced a Nintendo Switch version in January 2020, alongside the game’s other platforms. Every other version launched, but the Switch port did not. The last official word came in 2022, when the studio said it was still in development, and nothing official has been said since.
The usual explanation is hardware. Genshin Impact is a large, demanding open-world game, and the original Switch has far less power than the phones and consoles it runs on today.
Can You Play Genshin Impact on Switch 2?
The Switch 2 is more capable, which has revived the hope of a Nintendo version, but there is still no official announcement. In 2026, dataminers reported finding a Nintendo account login feature in the game’s files, and several leakers claimed a Switch 2 release was coming. The game did not appear in the following Nintendo Direct, and neither HoYoverse nor Nintendo has confirmed anything.
So the honest answer to “can you play Genshin Impact on Switch?” is no, on either console, for now. If a Switch 2 version is announced, it would most likely use the same HoYoverse account as every other platform, so progress you build elsewhere should carry over. Until then, treat any release date you see as a rumour.
Is Genshin Impact on Xbox?

Yes. Genshin Impact launched on Xbox Series X|S on November 20, 2024. It is free to download, with no Game Pass subscription required, although Game Pass Ultimate members get some extra in-game rewards and can also stream the game through Xbox Cloud Gaming. There is no Xbox One version.
A few points matter when you first start on Xbox:
- Link your existing account. The first time you launch, you are asked to link a HoYoverse account to your Microsoft account. If you already play on PC or mobile, link that account, or you will start a brand-new save.
- Think before linking. A Microsoft account can only be unlinked from a HoYoverse account once, so make sure you link the right one.
- Co-op works across platforms. Xbox players can play co-op with PC, mobile and PlayStation players on the same server.
Can You Play Genshin Impact on Mac?

Can you play Genshin on Mac? Not natively. There is no macOS version of Genshin Impact, and the iPhone and iPad version is not offered for Macs. That still leaves a few ways to play, each with trade-offs:
- Cloud streaming. Genshin Impact is supported on cloud gaming services that run on macOS, such as GeForce NOW, which streams the PC version to your Mac. This is the simplest option, but it needs a fast, stable internet connection, and some tiers have queues or session limits.
- Windows compatibility tools. On Apple silicon Macs, compatibility layers that run Windows games can launch the PC version. It can work, but setup is involved, performance is less stable than a native game, and using unofficial tools always carries some risk under the game’s terms.
- Boot Camp on older Intel Macs. Intel-based Macs can install Windows through Boot Camp and run the PC version directly. Apple silicon Macs cannot use Boot Camp.
For most Mac owners, cloud streaming or simply playing on a phone or tablet is the least hassle. Whichever route you take, the game’s size is worth planning for, as covered in how much storage Genshin Impact needs.
Moving Your Account to a New Platform
Because every version shares one HoYoverse account, switching platform rarely means starting over. A few rules are worth knowing before you move:
- Stay on the same server. Progress is stored per server (America, Europe, Asia or TW, HK, MO), and it does not move between them.
- Use the same login. Sign in with the same HoYoverse account on the new device. On PlayStation and Xbox, link that account rather than creating a new one.
- Check where your Genesis Crystals came from. Genesis Crystals bought on PlayStation can only be spent on PlayStation, so spend them there before you switch if PlayStation is where you bought them.
- Keep your login details current. The bound email is how you recover the account, so make sure it is an address you still use before moving devices.
If you are coming back after a break on a new device, the latest content is worth catching up on first, such as the characters and events added in the Version 7.1 update.
Genshin Impact Platforms at a Glance
Put together, the answer for each device is short:
- PC, iOS and Android: yes, all fully supported.
- PlayStation 5: yes. PlayStation 4 support ended in 2026.
- Xbox Series X|S: yes, since November 2024. There is no Xbox One version.
- Nintendo Switch: no. It was announced in 2020 but never released.
- Nintendo Switch 2: no official version, only rumours.
- Mac: no native version, but playable through cloud streaming or compatibility tools.
Whichever platform you end up on, your account is the one thing that travels with you. If you are starting fresh on a new device and would rather not rebuild a roster from Adventure Rank 1, you can look at Genshin Impact Accounts with the characters you want, hand the daily Resin and exploration routine to a player through Genshin Impact Hourly Services, or clear Spiral Abyss and other endgame goals with Genshin Impact Boosting.
