Version 6.0.0 added a sixth Team Playstyle to eFootball, Overload, bringing the full list to Possession Game, Quick Counter, Long Ball Counter, Long Ball, Out Wide, and the new arrival. Team Playstyle shapes how your entire squad moves across all four phases of play — defense, build-up, attack, and transition — and picking one that actually fits your players matters more than any single card upgrade. Here's every option explained, plus a related v6.0.0 change worth understanding separately.

Where to set it, and what proficiency means

Team Playstyle is set from Main Menu → My Team → Game Plan → Tactics → Team Playstyle. It works alongside your formation rather than replacing it — the formation sets your shape, the playstyle sets how your team behaves within that shape.

Your manager matters here more than most players realize. Each manager carries proficiency ratings for specific playstyles, and that proficiency feeds directly into player stat bonuses when you use a playstyle they're strong in. Running Quick Counter under a manager whose real strength is Possession Game leaves value on the table even if your squad itself is well suited to counter-attacking football.

Possession Game

Possession Game builds patiently, with players making short support runs and prioritizing keeping the ball over immediate progress upfield. It suits squads with strong passing and dribbling across midfield, and rewards players comfortable receiving the ball under pressure rather than running into open space. It's the most methodical of the six, and the least forgiving of a squad that lacks technical depth in the middle of the pitch.

Quick Counter

Quick Counter is built around winning the ball and attacking immediately, with runners breaking into the space behind the opposing backline the moment possession changes. It works best with a genuine target forward to hold the ball up and pacey outlets either side of him to exploit the space a broken defensive line leaves behind. Squads without real pace up front tend to underperform with this playstyle, since the whole approach depends on beating defenders to space rather than working around them.

Long Ball Counter

Long Ball Counter is the more conservative sibling of Quick Counter. Your team defends in two compact lines, protects the center of the pitch, and keeps forwards positioned to run onto the ball the instant it's won back. It's widely considered one of the safer playstyles in the current formation meta, since the deeper defensive shape limits how often you're exposed, at the cost of needing your forwards to finish chances largely on their own.

Long Ball

Long Ball goes further than Long Ball Counter by making the direct pass to a focal striker the default attacking method, not just the counter-attacking one. Players spread out to open passing lanes for longer balls, forwards actively look to break the offside line, and the defensive block sits deeper to absorb pressure before springing forward again. It's an old-school approach that can bypass a heavy press entirely, but it asks a lot of a single target striker and the players supporting him for second balls.

Out Wide

Out Wide stretches the pitch and looks to isolate the opposition's fullbacks, funneling attacks down the flanks for crosses into the box. It suits squads with genuinely strong wingers and fullbacks willing to overlap, since the wide players are expected to hold the touchline and create width rather than cutting inside. Without real quality out wide, the playstyle loses most of its purpose.

Overload — the new sixth playstyle

Overload is the headline addition in v6.0.0. Rather than fixing your team into a single attacking or defensive shape, it concentrates players toward whichever side of the pitch the ball is currently on, creating a local numerical advantage around the ball carrier in both directions.

In possession, that means more short passing options in tight spaces and an easier time holding the ball even when the opponent is pressing hard. Out of possession, the team stays compact and closes down the ball carrier quickly, denying passing lanes rather than sitting off. Konami has also confirmed you can push your defensive line higher while in possession in the opponent's half, applying a high press further up the pitch — the kind of aggressive, ball-oriented approach associated with modern high-pressing football.

Overload sits closer to Possession Game and Quick Counter than to the two Long Ball options, and it favors strikers and midfielders comfortable receiving the ball in congested areas over players whose main strength is running into open space. New managers with high proficiency in Overload arrived alongside the update, and are worth prioritizing if you want to build around it properly rather than running it under a manager who isn't suited to it.

A related but separate change: Playing Styles in and out of possession

Alongside the Team Playstyle update, v6.0.0 also lets individual players carry different Playing Styles depending on whether your team is in possession or not. This is a different system from Team Playstyle — Playing Styles are the individual traits assigned to specific players, like Goal Poacher or Creative Playmaker, rather than a team-wide setting. The two systems interact (a player's individual Playing Style still operates inside whatever Team Playstyle you've selected), but they're not the same thing, and it's worth keeping that distinction clear when reading patch notes or community discussion that uses "style" loosely.

Matching a playstyle to your squad

The honest starting point is your existing squad rather than whichever playstyle is trending. A team stacked with technical midfielders and short passers gets more out of Possession Game or Overload than it will out of Long Ball. A squad built around a genuine target man and pacey wide players is wasted on Possession Game and comes alive under Long Ball Counter or Long Ball itself. Overload specifically rewards squads that already function well in tight spaces — if your current Team Playstyle already feels close to how Overload is described, it's a natural next step to try; if your squad's strength is running in behind, it may be worth sticking with Quick Counter for now.

Our Formation & Tactics Guide covers how playstyle choice fits into your broader tactical system, and the Best Managers guide breaks down which managers carry the strongest proficiency for each option, including the new Overload-focused arrivals. If you're specifically building around a striker for the new meta, our CF meta breakdown covers how Overload changes what's valuable up front.

Whichever playstyle fits your squad, having the right players to execute it makes the difference.
