Blood Strike Squad Roles Explained: Entry, Support and Anchor

Squad roles in Blood Strike are the three jobs a trio splits between them: an entry who opens fights, a support who trades damage and rebuys teammates, and an anchor who holds ground and watches the flank. Assigning them before you drop is the cheapest way to win more third-party fights.

Most squads in Blood Strike do not lose because their aim is bad. They lose because three players make the same decision at the same time — all three push, all three loot, all three reload behind the same rock. NetEase Games built the mode around an in-match economy (Cash, Buy Stations, respawn purchases) and a Wildcard system that only pays off when the three of you are doing different things. This guide breaks the trio into concrete roles, explains what each one owns in a fight, and shows how the roles shift between Battle Royale and the smaller respawn modes.

What are squad roles in Blood Strike?

Squad roles are an informal division of labour inside a trio or quad: who enters a room first, who trades and heals, and who covers the retreat. Blood Strike does not enforce them in the UI — you agree on them in the lobby, and they map onto Striker abilities and loadout ranges.

Because Blood Strike lets every player pick any Striker and any weapon, the game will happily let a squad field three identical loadouts. That is the default state of a random-fill trio, and it is why random fills lose to organised ones. A role is not a restriction; it is a promise about timing. The entry promises to be first through the door. The support promises to be two steps behind, not five. The anchor promises to still be alive and holding an angle when the first two are trading.

The practical benefit shows up in three places. First, information: someone is always looking at the flank instead of all three staring at the same doorway. Second, economy: the squad decides in advance who spends Cash at a Buy Station and who saves for a respawn purchase. Third, recovery: when a fight goes badly, one player is already positioned to cover a revive rather than sprinting in and feeding a second kill.

If the ranked ladder is your goal, read the Blood Strike ranked climbing guide alongside this one — roles are what make a rank push repeatable instead of streaky.

What does the entry fragger do?

The entry is the first player into a contested space. Their job is to create the opening shot and force enemies to react, accepting that they will often trade their own life for a kill. They run the highest-mobility Striker and the fastest-handling close-range weapon in the squad.

An entry is judged on initiation quality, not on kill/death ratio. A good entry breaks a defended angle in a way the other two can convert. That means committing decisively — half-pushing into a doorway and backing out is worse than not pushing at all, because it hands the defender free information and free damage.

Loadout-wise, the entry wants an SMG or a fast assault rifle with attachments tuned for hipfire spread and ADS speed rather than range. Movement is the entry's real weapon: slide-cancelling into a room changes your hitbox and your speed at the exact moment the defender's crosshair settles. The mechanics are worth drilling on their own, and the Blood Strike movement and slide-cancel breakdown covers the inputs step by step.

Three habits separate a working entry from a feeding one:

• Call the push before you make it. "Pushing left door in three" gives the support time to close distance. Pushing silently means you die alone.
• Enter with utility, not just a gun. Whatever flash, smoke or Striker ability your loadout carries, spend it on the entry — it is the cheapest damage-avoidance in the game.
• Never entry with the squad's best long-range weapon. If you are holding the marksman rifle, you are not the entry that round. Swap the role, not the plan.

What does the support player do?

The support follows the entry within about two seconds, trades the kill if the entry dies, carries the squad's healing and revive burden, and handles Cash spending at Buy Stations. They run a flexible mid-range loadout so they can fight at either distance the entry drags them into.

"Trading" is the concept that makes support valuable, and it is worth being precise about. If your entry pushes a room and dies, the enemy who killed them is briefly exposed — reloading, repositioning or finishing an animation. A support who arrives inside that window converts a 3v3 that went 2v3 back into a 2v2. A support who arrives eight seconds later walks into a healed, repositioned defender and makes it 1v3.

The support also owns the squad's economy. Blood Strike's in-match Cash funds Buy Stations, equipment and — critically — respawn purchases for downed teammates. Making one player responsible for that spending prevents the classic failure where all three players individually assume someone else will buy the rebuy. A useful default: the support banks Cash and does not spend it on upgrades to their own loadout until every teammate is alive and equipped.

Support is the role that most benefits from consistent aim settings, because it fights across the widest range of distances. If your sensitivity is tuned only for close-range spray, you will lose the mid-range trades that define the role; the Blood Strike sensitivity tuning guide explains how to set ADS and scope multipliers so both ranges feel the same.

What does the anchor do?

The anchor holds the squad's ground. They stay back from the initial contact, watch the flank and the rear, keep the long sightline covered, and are usually the last player standing when a fight collapses — which makes them the one who can rebuy the other two.

New players hear "stay back" and turn into a spectator. That is not the role. The anchor is actively working: pre-aiming the angle a third party will come from, calling the moment an enemy rotates, and pinching the fight from a second position once the entry has committed. In Blood Strike's Battle Royale, where a firefight almost always attracts a nearby squad, the anchor is your insurance policy against the third party that decides your placement.

The anchor carries the squad's longest-range weapon — a marksman rifle or an assault rifle built for recoil control and optics. They are also the natural carrier for defensive or vision-oriented Wildcards, because they hold static positions long enough to get value from them.

Position discipline is the whole job. The anchor should be able to answer two questions at all times: where is my squad and where is the nearest unfought squad. If the answer to the second is "no idea", the anchor is playing too close to the fight.

How should a squad split weapons and Wildcards?

Split by engagement distance rather than by preference: a close-range kit for the entry, a flexible mid-range kit for the support, a long-range kit for the anchor. Wildcards follow the same logic — mobility on the entry, sustain on the support, vision or defensive utility on the anchor.

The failure mode is a squad where all three players run the same meta assault rifle. It feels strong in isolation and it is genuinely fine at mid range, but it leaves the squad with no answer to a rooftop marksman and no answer to a close-quarters rush. Coverage beats individual optimisation.

A workable default split for a trio:

• Entry: SMG or fast assault rifle, mobility and ADS-speed attachments, movement-oriented Striker ability.
• Support: versatile assault rifle with a mid-power optic, plus the squad's healing consumables and the Cash reserve.
• Anchor: marksman rifle or long-barrel assault rifle, recoil and range attachments, plus whatever gives the squad information.

Wildcards deserve a deliberate conversation because their effects stack awkwardly when duplicated. Two players carrying the same mobility Wildcard does not make the squad twice as mobile; it makes one of them redundant. The Wildcard pool shifts with seasonal balance passes, so re-check the current effects in NetEase Games' official Blood Strike patch notes rather than assuming last season's picks still hold — this system has been re-tuned repeatedly.

How should a squad communicate?

Use short, structured callouts with three components: what, where, and what you want. "One enemy, second floor blue building, I'm pushing left" is usable. "He's over there!" is noise. Ping the location even when you are on voice chat.

Blood Strike is fast enough that long sentences arrive after the fight has ended. Squads that communicate well converge on a small vocabulary and stick to it. Distances go in a consistent unit. Directions are absolute — north, the crashed plane, the red container — rather than relative to whoever is speaking, because "on your right" is meaningless to two teammates facing different ways.

Three callouts are worth making mandatory in any squad:

• Health and ammo before a push. A push into a defended building with one teammate at low health is a coin flip.
• Reloads. Saying "reloading" tells the support that this is the second they need to step forward.
• The third party. The moment the anchor hears or sees an unrelated squad, everything else stops. Placement is worth more than a finished kill.

Equally important is what not to say. Post-mortems in the middle of a match cost more rounds than the original mistake did. Save them for the lobby.

How do roles change between Battle Royale and the respawn modes?

In Battle Royale the roles spread out — the anchor plays further back because third parties and the closing zone matter more than any single fight. In respawn-based modes the roles compress: everyone plays closer, the anchor becomes a position-holder, and trading matters more than survival.

Battle Royale rewards patience and positioning. Your squad's placement is worth as much as your kills, so the anchor's flank-watching and the support's Cash discipline compound over a long match. Rotations, zone timing and landing choices dominate; the Blood Strike battle royale rotation and zone guide goes deep on that layer, and roles sit on top of it rather than replacing it.

Respawn modes invert the maths. Dying costs you seconds instead of the match, so the correct play is to keep pressure on and trade constantly. The entry pushes more often. The support stops hoarding and starts fighting. The anchor's job shifts from "protect the flank" to "deny the enemy's approach side", which usually means holding a fixed power position and refusing to leave it.

One rule survives both: never all die at once. A wipe in Battle Royale ends the match; a wipe in a respawn mode hands the enemy free map control for the length of the respawn timer. Staggering deaths — which is exactly what roles produce — is the difference.

How should a squad rotate and revive together?

Rotate in a loose triangle rather than a line: two players move while one holds the sightline behind, then swap. For revives, the anchor covers, the support performs the pickup, and the entry re-establishes the threat so the enemy cannot free-push the downed player.

The single-file rotation is the most common squad mistake in Blood Strike. Three players running a straight line across open ground can all be caught by one marksman holding the correct angle. A triangle spread means the first shot only reveals one player, and the other two immediately have a firing angle on the shooter.

Revives follow the same principle. A downed teammate is bait; the enemy knows exactly where your squad has to be for the next few seconds. Reviving in the open turns a 2v3 into a 1v3. The correct sequence is: break line of sight or lay smoke, anchor holds the angle the damage came from, support revives, entry watches the second entrance. If none of those conditions can be met, leave the teammate down, win the fight, and pick them up afterwards — or use a respawn purchase if your Cash reserve allows it.

What squad mistakes cost the most matches?

The expensive mistakes are structural rather than mechanical: splitting up while looting, all three pushing the same angle, reviving in the open, hoarding Cash nobody spends, and continuing a fight after a third squad has arrived. Each one is a habit, and each one is fixable inside a single match.

Ranked play in particular punishes greed. A finished kill that takes ninety seconds and draws two more squads is a worse outcome than disengaging with everyone alive. The ladder's own mechanics — point gains, tier thresholds and season resets — follow separate logic, and they pair naturally with the role work here.

A short self-audit after a loss is more useful than more matches. Ask: did we die within five seconds of each other? Did anyone watch the flank? Did we take a fight we did not need? Three honest answers usually explain the loss without touching aim at all.

How do you practise roles as a squad?

Assign roles before the drop and keep them for a full session rather than swapping mid-match. Rotate roles between sessions so every player can cover each one, and review one clip per session where the squad's spacing broke. Consistency builds the timing that roles depend on.

Give it three or four sessions before judging it. The first session usually feels worse, because players used to freelancing now have to wait two beats before pushing. What improves first is not your kill count — it is the number of fights you leave with all three players alive.

Solo-queue players are not excluded from this. You can play a defined role in a random fill without saying a word: if two teammates rush a building, you become the anchor by default and hold the flank. Being the one player in a random trio who is doing something different is often enough.

Frequently asked questions

Do squad roles work in a random-fill trio?

Yes, though you adapt rather than assign. Watch what your teammates do in the first fight and take whichever role is missing — usually anchor, since random fills tend to over-push. Pings alone are enough to coordinate.

Which role should a beginner play?

Support. It is the most forgiving because you are rarely the first to take damage, and it teaches the two habits that matter most: trading kills and managing the squad's Cash and healing.

Does a quad squad need a fourth role?

A fourth player usually doubles as a second entry or a roaming flanker rather than inventing a new role. The important thing is that the second entry pushes a different angle than the first.

Do Striker abilities decide the role?

They influence it but do not decide it. Mobility and breach abilities suit an entry; sustain and vision abilities suit support and anchor. Because NetEase Games re-balances Strikers between seasons, treat the ability as a bonus and the loadout's engagement distance as the real role marker.
