HoYoverse has published Severian's official Agent Mechanics Intro, confirming how his Flow and Shadowflash resources work, which teams he is built for and what his signature W-Engine does. Severian is an S-Rank Wind Attack Agent from the Metropolitan Order Division, and his kit is built around enhanced Basic Attacks and a dodge that can trigger on its own. Severian's Kit Explained

Core Resources: Flow and Shadowflash

Severian runs on two resources:

Flow builds up through Basic Attacks, dodges, Chain Attacks and his Ultimate, and it powers his strongest Basic Attack
Shadowflash is gained when he enters the battlefield or uses his EX Special Attack: Swiftwind Rupture, and it powers his automatic dodge. He can hold up to 2 stacks

Basic Attack: Swift Edge

Swift Edge launches up to 4 attacks forward, dealing Wind DMG. If the first 3 hits dodge an enemy attack, Basic Attack: Raging Whirlwind triggers automatically. The 4th hit gains Flow when it lands, and gains extra Flow if it also dodges an attack.

Basic Attack: Azure Wind's Shadowhunt

With enough Flow, hold Basic Attack to unleash Azure Wind's Shadowhunt, a stream of continuous slashes that deals massive Wind DMG to enemies in front of him. Dodging an enemy attack during this move triggers Vital View and refunds some Flow.

Shadowflash: The Automatic Dodge

This is the part of his kit that stands out most. When Severian is hit by an enemy's non-Control Skill attack and fails to dodge or parry, he consumes 1 Shadowflash stack to dodge automatically. He then unleashes Basic Attack: Raging Whirlwind, dashing forward to deal massive Wind DMG.

If you gain Shadowflash while already at 2 stacks, your next Swift Edge is upgraded into Raging Whirlwind, so the resource is never wasted.

Windborne and Entry Skill: Clear Out

Dodging with Swift Edge or with Shadowflash counts as a Perfect Dodge. A Perfect Dodge, or gaining Shadowflash at max stacks, grants Windborne. While Windborne is active, switching Severian in from off-field triggers Entry Skill: Clear Out, a powerful slash that deals Wind DMG to enemies in front of him.

Ultimate: Annihilating Windstorm

When Decibel Rating is full, his Ultimate unleashes a series of rapid slashes for massive Wind DMG and grants a large amount of Flow, setting up his next Azure Wind's Shadowhunt.

Additional Ability: Optimal Setup

Severian's ATK increases based on his CRIT Rate when another squad member is a Support or Stun Agent, or shares his Faction. This makes CRIT Rate doubly valuable on him, since it raises both his crit chance and his ATK.

Best Severian Teams

HoYoverse recommends two teams for Severian:

Severian + Norma + Astra Yao: Norma is a Stunner and Astra Yao is a Support, so both of them activate Optimal Setup. Norma is also on the rerun banner in the same phase, which makes this the easiest team to complete. Our Norma analysis explains what she brings

HoYoverse notes that many other teams can work too. As a rule, keep at least one Support or Stun Agent next to him so Optimal Setup is always active.

Signature W-Engine: Incarcerating Grip

Incarcerating Grip is Severian's limited S-Rank Attack W-Engine.

Stats at Level 60, Phase 1: Base ATK 713, CRIT Rate 24%
Effect, Evil Caught Within: raises the wearer's CRIT Rate. When the wearer's Basic Attack hits an enemy, their ATK increases and their DMG ignores part of the target's Wind RES for a period of time
Restriction: the effect only works for Attack Agents
Modification material: Attack Component

Because Optimal Setup turns CRIT Rate into extra ATK, the CRIT Rate on this W-Engine is worth more on Severian than on most Attack Agents. Like Severian, it will not join the standard channel.

Pull if:

You struggle with dodge timing, since Shadowflash forgives missed dodges up to twice
You already own Roxy, Norma or Astra Yao, so his teams are ready

Think twice if:

Your account is short on Support and Stun Agents, because Optimal Setup needs one of them
You are saving for a specific Agent later in the year, since both Severian and his W-Engine are limited
