Watcher of Realms: The Fallen Covenant Mechanics Guide

The Fallen Covenant is Watcher of Realms' latest event boss, built around a Dual-Realm system that splits the fight across two separate battlefields, Ritual Altar and Realm of Sorrow. It's one of the more mechanically dense bosses the game has added, requiring two independent 20-hero rosters and a solid handle on skill rotations in both realms. Here's the full breakdown.
Basic rules and the Dual-Realm system
Players can challenge The Fallen Covenant an unlimited number of times during the event, and rewards are calculated from your single highest damage attempt, not a cumulative total. That means it's worth experimenting with lineups and rotations rather than settling for your first clear.
The fight's defining feature is its Dual-Realm mechanic. You'll need 20 heroes total, split into two independent rosters, one for each realm. Battles continuously switch back and forth between Ritual Altar and Realm of Sorrow, and both teams need stable damage, survivability, and solid mechanic handling to keep the fight going. A weak roster in either realm will bottleneck your overall run.
Ritual Altar: boss traits and best composition
Ritual Altar's boss is a Flying unit, which means melee heroes cannot attack it at all — your Ritual Altar roster needs to be built around ranged damage from the start. It also has Light Armor, taking 15% extra Piercing Damage, so Star Piercers Marksman heroes or other Piercing DPS units are strongly recommended for this phase.
Ritual Altar skill rotation
The rotation runs through six skills before switching realms:
- Hands of Ruin (Dispel + AoE)
- Arcane Gluttony (HP Priority Target)
- Profane Sight (Dual High-HP Lock)
- Hands of Ruin (Dispel + AoE)
- Arcane Gluttony (HP Priority Target)
- Morning Star (20s Enrage DPS Check) → switches to Realm of Sorrow
Red nodes (Profane Sight, Morning Star) are high-risk burst or wipe mechanics that require pre-defending. Purple nodes are core DPS checks or phase transition mechanics. Notably, survival pressure in Ritual Altar is relatively low compared to Realm of Sorrow, so this phase is where you want to focus on maximizing damage output. Mechanic timers keep running during realm transitions, so don't assume switching realms gives your team a free breather.
Ritual Altar full skill mechanics
- Dissonance (Shared Passive): every time Morning Star is cast, the boss permanently gains ATK and Max HP. The longer the fight drags on, the more dangerous it gets — this is a strong incentive to end the fight quickly rather than grind it out.
- Arcane Gluttony: deals continuous multi-hit damage to heroes, sorted from highest Max HP to lowest. Applying Curse reduces the number of targeted heroes, giving you a tool to mitigate this skill specifically.
- Hands of Ruin: mass AoE multi-wave damage that completely dispels all player buffs. The third wave hits significantly harder than the first two, so pre-heal and pre-defend before this skill lands.
- Profane Sight: locks the 2 highest Max HP heroes and deals massive AoE damage in a 3-tile radius around both targets. Keep your high-HP heroes fully separated on the field to avoid a team wipe from overlapping damage zones.
- Morning Star (Core Enrage DPS Check): the boss enters a 20-second enraged state, attacking continuously, healing based on its max HP, and stacking a dispellable Vulnerability. Any hero death during this window permanently strengthens Fallen Covenant. Succeed by depleting its HP during the enrage and the boss enters a weakened burst window; fail, and your team takes mass damage plus a permanent Physical and Magic Damage Reduction penalty for the rest of the fight. Important: Fallen Covenant's health pool here is not a shield, so shield-breaking damage bonuses don't apply against it.
- Vile Reprisal: heroes that trigger Death Immunity or Unyielding effects suffer reduced Rage and ATK for a duration afterward. Don't over-rely on invincibility-style heroes as a crutch in this fight.
Realm of Sorrow: boss traits and mechanics
Realm of Sorrow features two bosses fighting simultaneously, Ramiel (left) and Roderic (right). Unlike Ritual Altar, there's no attack restriction here — both melee and ranged heroes can attack normally. The bosses still carry Light Armor, taking 15% extra Piercing Damage, and the core requirements for this phase are Anti-Healing uptime, clean positioning, balanced DPS between both bosses, and surviving burst damage.
Realm of Sorrow skill rotation
This phase runs a longer, ten-step rotation before transitioning:
- Rending Storm (Maintain Anti-Heal)
- Rending Storm (Maintain Anti-Heal)
- Weightless Wrath (Isolate High-HP)
- Rending Storm (Maintain Anti-Heal)
- Rending Storm (Maintain Anti-Heal)
- Rivenblade (Survival Burst Check)
- Weightless Wrath (Isolate High-HP)
- Rending Storm (Maintain Anti-Heal)
- Rending Storm (Maintain Anti-Heal)
- Twin Ward (Dual Shield DPS Check) → Phase Transition
The key summary for this realm: higher overall survival pressure than Ritual Altar. Always prioritize, in order, Anti-Healing Uptime, clean positioning, surviving burst, breaking both shields, then transitioning safely.
Realm of Sorrow full skill mechanics
Ramiel (left boss):
- Rending Storm: multi-wave AoE damage to all heroes. Critical mechanic — if Ramiel has no Anti-Healing active when this resolves, both bosses clear all debuffs and fix all incoming damage to just 10 for a long duration, effectively nullifying your team's damage output. 100% Anti-Healing uptime is mandatory throughout this phase.
- Rivenblade: Ramiel deals multi-hit AoE damage, immediately followed by one massive full-team burst from Roderic. This is the highest single burst of damage in the entire fight, so pre-stack defense and healing before it lands.
- Twin Ward (Realm of Sorrow DPS Check): both bosses generate individual shields simultaneously. Break both shields in time and they enter a weakened state with a huge damage window opening up. Break only one, or neither, and your team takes mass damage plus a permanent global damage reduction applied to both bosses for the rest of the fight. The key rule here is balancing your DPS evenly between the two bosses rather than focusing one down first.
Roderic (right boss):
- Weightless Wrath: locks the highest Max HP hero and deals continuous AoE damage around that target. The target and adjacent tiles take extreme burst damage, so the position rule is to isolate your high-HP heroes away from the rest of the team before this triggers.
Shared passive — Dissonance: every Twin Ward cast permanently increases the ATK of both bosses, mirroring how Morning Star scales Ritual Altar's boss. The longer either fight runs, the harder both realms hit.
