Watcher of Realms September 21 Update: The Grey Blades Arrive
By Michael Pras 17 September 2026, 23:59 WIB
Watcher of Realms' next update lands September 21 (UTC-8), and Moonton is using it to introduce a brand-new faction, a new weekly Guild Boss with a genuinely different fight structure, and a fresh Hero Aspect for Sun Wukong. Here's what's confirmed.
A New Faction Built Around Sync
The Grey Blades join Tya as the game's newest faction, built specifically around the Sync mechanic. Certain Grey Blades abilities let members launch Syncs regardless of distance, which means multiple faction members can land additional attacks on the same target rather than Sync being limited to heroes standing near each other. That's a meaningful shift for a faction mechanic — most factions coordinate through proximity or shared buffs, so a distance-independent Sync effectively lets you stack extra hits on a single priority target from anywhere on the field.
Two new heroes are confirmed joining the faction at launch: Ruen Hollow and Corven. They'll be joining existing Grey Blades members Rorkesh, Garroq, Amelia Ainsworth, and Galloway, giving the faction a five-plus roster from day one rather than launching with just the two new additions.
New Guild Boss: The Fallen Covenant
The update's other headline feature is the Fallen Covenant, a new weekly Guild Boss that unlocks once your guild clears Drake's Chasm - Abyss I. What makes it different from a standard Guild Boss is its battlefield structure: the Fallen Covenant periodically transforms into two separate monsters, Ramiel and Roderic, and can only be defeated through the combined effort of multiple guild members working different parts of the fight.
Challenging it requires setting up two teams before you can even begin — one team faces the Fallen Covenant directly, while the second faces Ramiel and Roderic. Critically, the two teams can't share heroes, gear, or Artifacts, so this isn't a fight you can brute-force with your single strongest lineup. It's built to reward guilds with real roster depth across multiple viable teams rather than guilds where everyone is funneling investment into one squad.
Challenge Tips
Moonton's own guidance splits into two parts based on which half of the fight you're building for:
- Against the Fallen Covenant itself (an airborne boss): bring Anti-Air DPS heroes, backed by strong Defenders and Healers for survivability. This half is described as a single-target fight, so Platform Single-Target DPS heroes are the recommended core.
- Against Ramiel and Roderic: since you're facing two bosses at once, Dual-Target DPS heroes are the recommended pick for this half of the encounter.
Since the two teams can't overlap on heroes or gear, guilds should start mapping out who covers which half well before the update lands, rather than scrambling to split resources on day one.
Sun Wukong Gets a New Aspect
Sun Wukong is picking up a new Hero Aspect, Golden Immortal, obtainable by redeeming it in the Great Sage Saga Event Shop. The Aspect effect changes his Golden Cudgel Strike into a Splash Damage attack that hits multiple enemies around the target, rather than the single-target hit it normally is.
For context, Hero Aspects are the system Watcher of Realms uses to meaningfully alter what a hero does — not just buff their numbers, but change how their kit actually functions, and they're gated behind max level and max Promotion Grade on the hero in question. That means Golden Immortal is only relevant to accounts that have already fully invested in Sun Wukong; there's no shortcut to testing it out on a half-built hero.
How to Prepare
- Start planning your Fallen Covenant rosters now. Since the two teams can't share heroes or gear, guilds need to identify who's covering Anti-Air Single-Target duty versus Dual-Target duty before the boss unlocks, not after.
- Confirm your guild has cleared Drake's Chasm - Abyss I. The Fallen Covenant won't be accessible without it, regardless of how ready your rosters are.
- Don't chase Golden Immortal unless Sun Wukong is already maxed. The Aspect is locked behind max level and max Promotion Grade, so it's not a system you can rush into on a fresh account.
