NTE Confirms Blackbird as S-Class: What's Known and What Isn't

Blackbird is officially joining the playable roster of Neverness to Everness. Hotta Studio confirmed it on 23 August 2026 through a Hethereau Special Bulletin posted on NTE's Global channel, showing her preview card marked S-Class alongside the line: each crossing of paths is a reunion written in destiny.

That single post settles a question the community had been arguing about for weeks — and settles almost nothing else. Her Esper type, her class, her skills, her banner and her release version are all still unannounced. Here's the clean separation between what Hotta Studio has actually confirmed, what's circulating as leak material, and what's simply wrong.

What the bulletin confirms

Four things, and only four:

• Blackbird is becoming a playable character. Until this post, her playable status was genuinely unconfirmed rather than merely undated.
• She is S-Class, the game's top rarity tier, marked directly on the preview card.
• She is in active drip marketing, meaning her reveal cycle has formally begun.
• The reveal came through NTE's Global channel, so it applies to the Global release rather than being regional news awaiting a port.

Everything past that point is unpublished.

Who Blackbird is right now

Appraisers have been interacting with her since global launch on 29 April 2026 without being able to play as her.

Blackbird runs The Witch's House on Bridge Crossings, where she handles transactions. In practice she's the NPC you bring Oracle Stone collectibles to after gathering them across the open world, and she pays out rewards in exchange. The Witch's House also gates the Lost Tales, Fortune and Treasure Hunt activities, which are among the game's steadier sources of EXP and materials.

She also appears in the Version 1.1 main story, which is where most players first register her as a character rather than a vendor.

Her thematic territory — fortune-telling, the Lost Tales, Hethereau's occult undercurrent — is the reason so much speculation about her Esper type has clustered around a single answer. More on that below, with the appropriate warning label attached.

What S-Class actually means for your pulls

For newcomers: Espers are NTE's playable characters, Riftcrystals are the pull currency, and Esper types sort characters into Lakshana, Cosmos, Anima, Incantation, Chaos and Psyche. A separate class layer divides them into gas, solid, liquid, plasma and synthesis.

The mechanical detail that matters most for planning is NTE's banner structure. The game uses a no-50/50 system with pity carryover between banners. Riftcrystals you accumulate and pity progress you build on one banner carry directly into the next. There is no coin flip that hands you an off-banner S-Class instead of the one you wanted.

The practical consequence is unusually favourable: saving for an unannounced character costs you nothing. In a game with a 50/50, banking for a character whose banner date is unknown risks that reserve being spent inefficiently. Here, progress persists. If Blackbird is a character you intend to pull, accumulating now carries no penalty even though her release version hasn't been named.

The NPC-to-playable precedent

Blackbird's promotion isn't unusual for this game. Version 1.3, "Rising from the Moonlit Fog", made Zankou playable — NTE's first playable antagonist, previously encountered as a story boss. Her Phase 1 banner, Alluring Shadows, opened 19 August 2026 and runs to 9 September, and unlocking her automatically grants the Red Nightshade outfit she wore during her quest line.

That precedent is worth noting because it establishes the pattern rather than because it predicts Blackbird's specifics. Hotta Studio has demonstrated a willingness to convert established NPCs into pullable Espers, which is exactly why the community read the Blackbird speculation as plausible before this confirmation arrived.

What it does not tell you is whether Blackbird receives a similar free outfit, a comparable banner length, or the same phase positioning. Assuming any of that from Zankou's treatment is guesswork.

The leaks, clearly labelled

There is leak material about Blackbird in circulation, and it should be read as exactly that.

Unverified leak claims point to Blackbird appearing in the first half of Version 1.4 with a Psyche Esper type, with Akane Rin — another existing NPC, a vocalist working the counter at the StarSign bar — following in the second half. The sources carrying these claims state plainly that none of it is confirmed and that it should be treated as unverified until Hotta Studio runs the 1.4 preview program.

A Psyche typing would fit her fortune-telling and occult associations neatly. That coherence is not evidence. Leaks that match a character's theme are exactly the ones most likely to be constructed from theme rather than from data, and roadmap leaks in particular tend to be ordering guesses assembled from beta strings and model files rather than confirmed schedules.

Then there's the misinformation. Several third-party character databases have already published complete Blackbird pages — build recommendations, skill listings, tier placements, team compositions — with her filed as Chaos type. These directly contradict the Psyche leak, and more importantly, they describe a kit that does not exist. Hotta Studio has published no skills for her at all. Those pages appear to be placeholder templates rather than sourced information, and anything derived from them is unreliable.

If you see a Blackbird build guide right now, it was not written from a kit.

Where Version 1.4 sits

Version 1.3 is the current update. Its schedule runs as follows:

• Zankou — Alluring Shadows, 19 August to 9 September 2026
• Linko — Surfing All Channels!, opening 9 September and running to 30 September
• Nanally and Hotori reruns run alongside Phase 1 and Phase 2 respectively, with pity thresholds carrying over from their debut banners

Version 1.4 therefore isn't imminent. If Blackbird does land in its first half — again, a leak claim rather than an announcement — that still places her some weeks out, after 1.3's Phase 2 concludes at the end of September.

The reliable marker is the 1.4 Preview Special Program. Hotta Studio has run one before each recent version, and that broadcast is historically where kits, banner windows and launch dates stop being speculation.

Stated plainly:

• Her Esper type. Not announced. The Psyche claim is a leak.
• Her class — gas, solid, liquid, plasma or synthesis. Not announced.
• Her skills, Esper abilities and combat role. Nothing published.
• Her banner name, window, or version. Not announced.
• Whether a free outfit accompanies her unlock, as Zankou's did.
• Her weapon banner and recommended modules. Not published.

What to do before the reveal

The useful preparation is straightforward.

Bank Riftcrystals. Because pity carries over and there's no 50/50, accumulation is risk-free even without a date. This is the rare gacha where waiting genuinely costs nothing.

Don't build a team around her. Without an Esper type or class, synergy planning is impossible. Any team composition published for Blackbird today was assembled from imagination.

Watch for the 1.4 preview program. That's when this becomes a build conversation rather than a confirmation one.

Keep clearing 1.3. Event content that closes cannot be revisited, and Zankou's window shuts on 9 September regardless of what comes next.
