Black Desert Online's August 13, 2026 maintenance added four new weekly boss quests — [Weekly] For the Throne: Aphrodon, Hermesia, Magaia, and Aresion — as part of the Inner Edania content wave first announced at this year's Heidel Ball. Beyond simple boss kills, the quests plug into a new region-ruling system: defeat one of the four bosses and you earn the right to become the Edana, the ruler of that boss's territory, with the throne itself changing hands through weekly PvP challenges.

What the Four Bosses Unlock

Defeating Aphrodon, Hermesia, Magaia, or Aresion doesn't just clear a weekly quest — it qualifies the player to contest the Edana's throne for that boss's region. Every Sunday, the current Edana has to defend their position against challenging Adventurers, and combat between the ruler and any challengers decides who holds the throne going forward. Whoever ultimately wins the throne receives special privileges and rewards tied to ruling that region, similar in spirit to the Throne of Edana system already running in the original Outer Edania area — the application period and challenge format follow the same rules players may already know from there.

There's one restriction worth knowing before queuing up: entry requires equipping the Dawn Crystal - All AP variant specifically. Any other Dawn Crystal type will block entry, so it's worth checking your loadout before heading in.

A Note for Anyone Who Hadn't Logged In Yet

Because these are entirely new weekly quests rather than an update to the existing ones, Pearl Abyss flagged one timing issue ahead of the patch: players who completed the old [Weekly] For the Throne quest before the August 13 maintenance landed found themselves locked out of the new Aphrodon/Hermesia/Magaia/Aresion quests until the following week's reset. If you're reading this after the fact and already ran into that wall, the fix is simply patience — the new quests should be available again on the next weekly reset.

Part of a Larger Edania Part 2 Rollout

The four new boss quests arrive alongside several other pieces of Inner Edania content added in the same update window, including new highest-tier hunting grounds tied to each boss's temple and region-specific Magic Crystal rewards. The same maintenance window also consolidated six separate event currency types into a single [Event] Reward Seal and ended support for systems running Windows 7 or DirectX 9 or below.

This is the same content wave that brought Black Desert's level cap increase and the new Agent class into the game — for the leveling changes specifically, see Black Desert Level Cap 70 Arrives 12 August: What Changes, and for the newest class introduced at the same Heidel Ball reveal, see BDO Agent Class: Release Date, Skills, and Everything We Know. Contesting a weekly Edana throne means showing up with gear that can actually survive both the boss fight and whatever PvP challenge follows it — and getting a Family to that point is the slow half of Black Desert Online.
