Black Desert Level Cap 70 Arrives 12 August: What Changes
By Michael Pras 12 August 2026, 00:00 WIB
Pearl Abyss is rebuilding Black Desert's progression, and the first half lands on 12 August when the level cap moves to 70. The second phase follows on 7 October, raising it to 75 alongside a full EXP structure overhaul and adjusted hunting ground experience. The detail that matters most for existing accounts: every level from 70 to 75 grants +3 Monster Attack and +3 Monster Damage Reduction, and those bonuses apply across your Family — not just to the character who earned them. Adventurers already at level 70 or above keep their status, and a Special Title is being awarded to anyone who reached levels 70 to 72 before the 12th. Here's the full picture and what to do before the update.
The two-phase rollout
12 August (Wednesday) — the level cap is applied at 70. Adventurers already at level 70 or higher have their status preserved.
7 October (Wednesday) — the cap rises to 75, the EXP structure is overhauled, and hunting ground EXP is adjusted.
Splitting the change across two months rather than shipping 75 immediately gives the economy and the grind time to settle, and it means the October patch is the one that actually changes how you earn experience.
The Special Title deadline
A Special Title is being provided to Adventurers who reached levels 70 to 72 before 12 August.
If you're sitting at 69 and reading this before the update, that's a genuinely short window. If you're already past 70, you have it.
This is the kind of reward that exists precisely once — there's no second chance at "before the cap was raised."
What levels 70 to 75 actually give
Each level from 70 to 75 provides:
- +3 Monster Attack
- +3 Monster Damage Reduction
Both are applied to Family characters, meaning the bonuses carry to swapped characters rather than staying locked to the one who levelled.
That family-wide application is the most important line in the whole announcement. In a game where most players maintain multiple characters for different content, progression that benefits your entire roster changes the maths on whether levelling is worth the hours. Five levels across 70 to 75 works out to +15 Monster AP and +15 Monster DR — account-wide.
Alongside this, combat adjustments based on monster level differences are being applied across all ranges, so the relationship between your level and a grind spot's level matters more broadly than before.
How long it takes
The development team addressed this directly: at one to two hours per day, reaching the new cap takes roughly two months.
That figure is worth holding onto because it sets expectations honestly. This isn't a weekend push, and it isn't a year-long wall either — it's a sustained but reasonable commitment for a player who logs in most days.
The October EXP overhaul should also make the climb feel different from the current curve, so grinding advice written before 7 October may not survive it.
Everything else running right now
The level change arrives inside an unusually busy season:
- Operation Level-Up runs 30 July to 27 August, directly supporting the progression push.
- HYPERBOOST and its Season Pass are live, with progression rewards including Ancient Hammers and Ancient Black Stones — both highly valuable in early and mid-game gear progression.
- The Agent class has launched: a revolver-and-grenades class with Succession and Awakening rather than the open-class system, described as the Corsair's younger brother. He uses a larger-calibre revolver focused on powerful individual shots rather than rapid fire, with an assassin-style approach built around his signature Blink.
- The Guild Fame system and Marni's Combat Analyzer arrived with the 6 August update.
- Guild League Focus Week runs 6 to 13 August, with the new Guild League regular season starting 27 August for four weeks.
- Edania Part 2 is coming as the finale to the game's first major narrative arc, with the gods Aal and Agris appearing as bosses.
One technical deadline worth checking
Easy to miss and genuinely disruptive: support for older operating systems and DirectX 9 ends on 13 August.
If you're playing on an older machine, check your system against the new requirements before that date. Losing access to a decade-old account because of an unnoticed technical notice is an avoidable way to be locked out.
What to do now
- Push to 70 before 12 August if you're close — the Special Title window closes with the update.
- Work Operation Level-Up before it ends on 27 August; it exists to support exactly this push.
- Progress the HYPERBOOST Season Pass for the Ancient Hammers and Ancient Black Stones, which matter more for gear progression than most seasonal rewards.
- Don't over-plan for October. The EXP overhaul on 7 October will change the optimal grind, so building a two-month levelling schedule now around current EXP rates is likely to need revising.
- Check your system requirements before 13 August.
- Consider which Family characters benefit. Because the 70–75 bonuses apply Family-wide, the calculation on levelling is better than it looks if you play multiple characters.
For returning Adventurers
If the level revamp is drawing you back after time away, note that Olvia Academy now supports returning players with a PEN Blackstar weapon on admission and four additional Black Hammers during the course — a substantially softer landing than returning players used to get.
Combined with a progression system being rebuilt from level 70 upward, this is a better re-entry point than Black Desert has offered in some time.
