Netmarble's Cross: IF update went live with the 22 July maintenance, and its centrepiece is a pair of "what if" heroes drawn from an alternate-world reading of the original anime: [A Twisted World] Another Meliodas and [A Twisted World] Another Ban. The date that matters is on the other end — the Cross: IF Special Selection Draw closes at the 19 August update maintenance, and Netmarble has confirmed neither hero will be added to the regular draws afterward. Around them sits a dense event slate: up to 70 free Diamonds from check-ins, a selectable buff event, a summer World Event, an idle mode, and a new Liones Defensive War season. Here's everything in the update and what's worth your time before the window shuts.

The two new heroes

Both new SSR heroes are built on the same concept — an alternate world in which the anime's familiar cast took on different roles — and both are designed to synergise with their own races and with The Seven Deadly Sins simultaneously. That dual synergy is the interesting part structurally, because it means they slot into two different team-building directions rather than locking you into one.

[A Twisted World] Another Meliodas is the more thoroughly detailed of the pair. His kit reduces the damage he takes based on increases to the enemy's damage dealt, and he weakens enemies while strengthening allies whenever those enemies use Attack Skills. In plain terms, he's built to punish aggression: the harder the opposing side hits, the more his defensive scaling and debuff pressure come online. That's a profile aimed at drawn-out fights against heavy attackers rather than at burst clearing.

[A Twisted World] Another Ban arrives alongside him with the same alternate-world framing and race synergy. Netmarble's announcement didn't detail his abilities to the same degree, so check his skill descriptions in-game rather than trusting a secondhand summary — including this one.

The draw, and the 19 August deadline

The Cross: IF Special Selection Draw runs from the 22 July maintenance until the 19 August update maintenance.

Tickets come from three places: the bonus Diamond ticket item, the draw's own Loyalty Points rewards, and the Event Exchange Shop.

Two mechanical details worth knowing before you commit Diamonds:

  • Neither hero enters the regular draw pool after the event. They may return in future banners, but there's no scheduled route to them once this closes.
  • The Loyalty cycle changes on repeat. After you claim the 600 Loyalty milestone reward once in this draw event, the 600 milestone on the second cycle becomes a bonus reward instead.

If you're planning a pull, plan it against the 19th rather than assuming a grace period. Maintenance ends banners rather than extending them.

The free rewards worth claiming

Even if you skip the draw entirely, several tracks cost nothing:

  • Cross: IF Check-In Event — up to 70 Diamonds across 14 days. Pure login value.
  • Cross: IF Special Missions Part 1 and Part 2 — Artifact Cards, growth materials, and Hawk's Secret Boxes.
  • Cross: IF Event Buff "A Twisted World" — accumulate points and exchange them for selectable buffs, including increased content rewards, Event Boss Battle buffs, and reduced stamina consumption in Demonic Beast Battles.

That last one deserves attention beyond its reward list. Reduced stamina consumption in Demonic Beast Battles effectively multiplies your farming throughput for the event's duration, which matters more for a mid-progression box than a handful of Diamonds does. If you're choosing which buffs to take, weigh the ones that compound over weeks against the ones that pay out once.

Seasonal and idle content

"Shaved Ice, Please!" is the summer-themed World Event, run through story quests that award various growth materials — the usual low-effort, story-forward format these seasonal events use.

Hawk's Dreamland Adventure is an idle event where Hawk progresses through adventures automatically, defeating monsters and earning event currency exchangeable for growth materials. Idle events are the easiest thing in any patch to forget, precisely because they don't demand attention — set it running and check in.

Liones Defensive War Season 10

The defensive war mode enters its tenth season with new Hidden Rounds and Hidden Boss Rounds, plus support for LR Evolution.

The LR Evolution support is the meaningful line there for established boxes. Content that acknowledges your highest-investment units is where a long-running roster finally pays off, and it gives a reason to push evolution on units you'd otherwise consider finished.

Patrol revamp and quality-of-life changes

The Patrol system has been reworked, with improved visuals and a reward structure now based on hero progression and team composition — meaning what you send out matters more than it did.

Alongside it, a batch of quality-of-life improvements:

  • Battle strategy information can now be viewed during combat
  • Increased inventory limits for cooking items and ingredients
  • New magic site effects in Competition
  • Improvements to the Sacred Treasure Shop, including character rotation

None of these are headline features, but the combat-strategy view is the sort of change that quietly improves how you learn difficult content — being able to check what you're up against mid-fight is worth more than another growth material bundle.

Should you pull?

Framed on what your box actually needs, not on hype.

The awakening maths matters most here. Taking a unit from five to six stars in Grand Cross requires duplicate copies — you can't level your way there. Every awakening step is another successful pull, which means a compact roster of fully awakened units consistently outperforms a broad collection of unawakened ones. Pulling a single copy of a new SSR you won't invest in is usually worse value than banking those Diamonds.

Pull if you run teams around the races these two synergise with, or if Another Meliodas's punish-the-attacker profile fills a gap in your PvE or PvP defence. The dual race-and-Sins synergy gives them more team slots than a typical race-locked SSR.

Skip if your Diamonds are earmarked for a festival banner. The veteran rule in Grand Cross remains the correct one: save until a banner you'd regret skipping. An SSR you pull once and never awaken doesn't change your ceiling.

If you're unsure how these heroes fit your existing lineup, our team building guide covers building around roles and synergies rather than assembling the strongest-looking units, and our 7th Anniversary update breakdown covers the festival-tier content this year has already delivered.

Your checklist before 19 August

  • Claim the check-in Diamonds daily — 14 days of logins, up to 70 Diamonds.
  • Clear both Special Missions parts for Artifact Cards and growth materials.
  • Bank Event Buff points early and take the stamina-reduction buff if you're farming Demonic Beasts.
  • Run Hawk's Dreamland Adventure in the background.
  • Decide on the draw before the final week, not during maintenance day.
  • Push Liones Defensive War Season 10 if you have LR units ready to evolve.

Build the box you actually want

Awakening a new SSR takes duplicates, and duplicates take banners — which is why a stacked box is measured in festivals rather than weeks.
