Worlds 2026 at a Glance

- Host: United States
- Dates: October 15 to November 14, 2026
- Play-In: Riot Games Arena, Los Angeles
- Swiss Stage, Quarterfinals and Semifinals: Credit Union of Texas Event Center, Allen, Texas
- Finals: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
The Play-In takes place in an intimate venue with a capacity of around 300, home of the LCS, before the event moves to larger arenas in Texas and New York.
Play-In Format

- Teams: 4
- Format: double elimination, so every team can lose once before being knocked out
- Series: every match is a best-of-five
- Draft: Fearless Draft, meaning champions used in a series cannot be picked again in later games of the same series
- Reward: the Play-In winner takes the 16th and final Swiss Stage spot and joins Pool 4
Fearless Draft in a best-of-five makes champion pools a real factor. Teams with deep pools across all five roles have an advantage as the series goes on.
Play-In Schedule
The Play-In runs from October 15 to October 18. Each day starts at 11:00 PDT, and only the first two days feature two matches.
Opening day, October 15:
- FURIA vs MVK Esports: 11:00 PDT (18:00 UTC, 01:00 WIB on October 16)
- Karmine Corp vs Cloud9: 16:00 PDT (23:00 UTC, 06:00 WIB on October 16)
Later matchups depend on these results, as winners and losers move through the double-elimination bracket. For viewers in Southeast Asia, most Play-In matches will fall in the early morning hours.
The Four Play-In Teams
Karmine Corp (LEC)
Karmine Corp qualified as the LEC's third seed, booking their place by beating GIANTX 3-1 in the LEC Summer playoffs. With one of Europe's largest fanbases, they will have plenty of support even in Los Angeles.
Cloud9 (LCS)
Cloud9 qualified through the LCS Summer playoffs, where they beat LYON 3-1. Playing at the LCS's home venue gives them the most familiar setting of the four teams.
MVK Esports (LCP)
MVK Esports is a Vietnamese team from the LCP, qualifying as the region's third seed through Championship Points. Their roster is young, with only one player who has competed at Worlds before. The team is led by co-owner and head coach Lê "SofM" Quang Duy, a former Worlds finalist as a player.
FURIA (CBLOL)
FURIA represent Brazil's CBLOL and earned their Worlds ticket through the CBLOL playoffs. Brazilian teams have historically faced a tough path at Worlds, so a deep Play-In run would be a statement for the region.
The Opening Matchups
Karmine Corp vs Cloud9 is the headline match of day one, pitting Europe against North America in a classic regional rivalry. Both teams come from established leagues with experience on the international stage.
FURIA vs MVK Esports is a matchup between two regions looking to prove themselves. For both teams, winning the opening series means avoiding the lower bracket and taking a big step toward the Swiss Stage.
Because the format is double elimination, a first-day loss is not the end. But it does mean a longer road, with every remaining series becoming a must-win.
What the Winner Faces in the Swiss Stage

The Play-In winner joins Pool 4, and in the first Swiss round, Pool 1 faces Pool 4. That means a likely opening match against one of the tournament's top seeds.
- Pool 1: Gen.G, Anyone's Legend, Team Liquid, G2 Esports
- Pool 2: Team Secret Whales, LØS, Hanwha Life Esports, Bilibili Gaming
- Pool 3: LYON, Movistar KOI, T1, Top Esports
- Pool 4: CTBC Flying Oyster, Invictus Gaming, Dplus KIA, Play-In winner
Teams from the same region cannot meet in the first round, and rematches are not allowed during the Swiss Stage. The Swiss Stage features 16 teams, and the first 8 to reach three wins advance to the knockout rounds.
How to Follow the Play-In
- Mark October 15: the Play-In opens with two best-of-five series.
- Convert the times: most matches start at 01:00 WIB the following day.
- Watch the Fearless Draft: champion choices become more important as each series goes deeper.
- Track the bracket: losing once does not eliminate a team, so follow the lower bracket closely.
- Look ahead to Allen, Texas: the Play-In winner heads straight into a Pool 1 opponent.
The Worlds 2026 Play-In may be small, but it sets the tone for the whole tournament. Four teams, four regions and one Swiss Stage spot make for a tense opening week. For more coverage throughout the event, follow our League of Legends news.
