eFootball v6.1: Select Skill and Position Tokens, Conversion Explained
By Sir Ayup 29 September 2026, 22:00 WIB
Konami has announced two new items for eFootball's v6.1.0 update, scheduled for October 2026: Select Skill Tokens and Select Position Tokens. Both do the same thing in their own lane — spend 100 and you pick the result, instead of rolling for it. Alongside them, Advanced Skill Tokens are being removed, with every one you hold converted into 20 Select Skill Tokens at update time. The announcement is short and the numbers inside it are precise, which is exactly why the conversion needs reading carefully before the update lands.
The short version
- v6.1.0 is scheduled for October 2026. No date has been given.
- Select Skill Tokens: spend 100 to train a player in a skill of your choice.
- Select Position Tokens: spend 100 to train a player in a Position Proficiency of your choice.
- Advanced Skill Tokens are removed from the game with the update. Each one you still own becomes 20 Select Skill Tokens.
- Konami's own wording: anyone who intends to spend Advanced Skill Tokens must do so before v6.1.0.
- The exchange rate means 5 Advanced Skill Tokens become one chosen skill (100 Select Tokens). Whether that is a gain or a loss depends on what an Advanced Skill Token does today, which the announcement does not restate.
- Nothing has been said about how Select Tokens are earned, how often, or whether standard Skill Tokens change.
What Konami actually announced
The notice, published September 28 for all devices, contains four statements: the two new items and their 100-token cost, the removal of Advanced Skill Tokens, the 1-to-20 conversion, and the instruction to spend before the update. It does not describe a new training interface, a change to regular Skill Tokens, a change to Legacy Transfer, or where the new tokens come from.
That matters for how the rest of this should be read. The mechanics below are the current system as it exists today; the announcement sits on top of it.
How skill training works now, and what "select" changes
Under the current system, a card can hold up to five additional skills on top of its printed ones, for a theoretical maximum of fifteen. Training consumes a Skill Token and the skill you receive is random from the player's pool. You can overwrite an additional skill later, but the token spent on the unwanted roll is gone.
The workaround most players use is Legacy Transfer: roll skills onto a cheap card you don't care about, then transfer the one result you wanted onto the card you do. It trades token risk for a GP cost, and it is the reason a striker rarely ends up stuck with a defender's skill on an expensive Epic.
Select Skill Tokens replace that whole detour. One hundred tokens, one chosen skill, applied directly. No vessel card, no GP transfer, no wasted roll. The practical consequence is not "training gets better" so much as "training gets predictable" — and predictability has a price, set at 100 per skill. Whether that price is cheap or expensive is entirely a question of income, and income is the part Konami has not announced.
Select Position Tokens follow the same shape for Position Proficiency: 100 tokens, one chosen position. How that compares with the current Position Token system depends on whether today's position training is random or already player-chosen, which is worth checking in your own inventory before assuming the new item is a leap forward.
The conversion, and what "spend first" is telling you
The arithmetic is simple. One Advanced Skill Token becomes 20 Select Skill Tokens. A chosen skill costs 100. So five Advanced Skill Tokens, after conversion, buy one skill you picked.
The line to weigh is Konami's warning that users who intend to spend their Advanced Skill Tokens must do so before the update. That sentence is only necessary if using an Advanced Skill Token now produces something different from what 20 Select Tokens will produce later. Two readings follow:
- If an Advanced Skill Token today delivers a full skill on its own, then converting it turns one skill into a fifth of a skill. Holders of one to four tokens would get more value spending now; holders of five or more could go either way, trading quantity for choice.
- If an Advanced Skill Token today delivers something narrower — a random result, a limited pool, or a single-use effect — then 20 Select Tokens that stack toward a guaranteed choice may be the better outcome, and the warning is simply Konami covering itself.
The announcement does not say which reading is correct, and this article will not guess. The item description in your own inventory does say. Read it before the update rather than after.
One more consequence of the exchange: Select Tokens are counted in hundreds, Advanced Tokens in single digits. A player with three Advanced Skill Tokens converts to 60 Select Tokens and is 40 short of a skill. Unless Select Tokens are distributed generously from launch, small holdings become dead weight for a while. Larger holdings convert cleanly.
What this changes for squad building
The current system rewards patience and GP: roll on vessels, transfer the hits. The new item rewards accumulation: bank tokens, pick the skill. If Select Tokens arrive at a reasonable rate, the Legacy Transfer route becomes a fallback rather than the default, and GP that used to fund transfers goes elsewhere.
For Position Proficiency the effect is more direct. A chosen proficiency at a fixed cost means a card's position flexibility becomes something you plan rather than something you hope for, which matters most for cards used across a Fluid Formation's attacking and defending shapes.
None of this is confirmed beyond the four statements in the notice. It is the direction the design points in.
What isn't known
- The update date. "October 2026" is the only timing given.
- What an Advanced Skill Token does today in Konami's own definition, and therefore whether the 1-to-20 conversion is a gain or a loss for a given holding.
- Whether current Position Tokens are random or chosen, which decides how big a change Select Position Tokens are.
- How Select Tokens are earned. Divisions, events, campaigns, the GP store, Objectives — none are named.
- Whether standard Skill Tokens remain, change, or are phased out alongside the Advanced ones.
- Whether Legacy Transfer is affected. The notice does not mention it.
What to do
- Open your inventory and read the Advanced Skill Token description before October. Everything about whether to spend or hold turns on that text.
- Count your Advanced Skill Tokens. Multiples of five convert to whole skills; remainders convert to partial progress that may sit unused.
- Don't spend Advanced Skill Tokens on random rolls just to beat the deadline. The deadline only matters if spending now beats converting later; if it doesn't, the conversion is the better use.
- Hold standard Skill Tokens for now. Nothing in the notice says they change, but nothing says they don't, and the update is weeks away.
- Check how your current Position Tokens work before deciding whether Select Position Tokens are worth planning around.
- Expect a follow-up. Konami's short notices are usually expanded closer to the update with sourcing and dates. Treat this as the rule set, not the full picture.
