eFootball English League Guardians: Three Defenders, 7-14 Sep
By Sir Ayup 5 September 2026, 22:00 WIB
The English League Guardians Epic pack opens on 7 September and runs to the 14th, and it does something none of the packs currently in the store do: every featured card is a defensive player.
Petr Čech in goal, Jaap Stam at centre-back, Claude Makélélé at defensive midfield. A spine, from the keeper forward.
Here's what's in it, what the ratings actually mean, and whether it's worth waiting for.
The short version
- Period: 7 – 14 September. Epic pack.
- Petr Čech — 87 base, 104 max, GK, Chelsea.
- Jaap Stam — 87 base, 103 max, CB, Manchester United.
- Claude Makélélé — 87 base, 102 max, DMF, Chelsea.
- All three share the same 87 base rating.
- The gap between base and maximum is 15 to 17 points — this is an Epic pack, so those ceilings need full training.
- The campaign may not be available in all countries or regions.
The three cards
Petr Čech — GK, Chelsea. Base 87, maximum 104. Skill: GK Directing Defence.
At 104, Čech is the highest-ceiling card across every pack currently in or approaching the store — above the 103s in Snap Strike and the 97s in the PFA TOTY set. For a position most squads under-invest in, that's a notable number.
Jaap Stam — CB, Manchester United. Base 87, maximum 103. Skills: Aerial Fort, Long-reach Tackle.
Aerial Fort points at exactly what a Stam card should be — dominant in the air, difficult to beat from crosses and set pieces.
Claude Makélélé — DMF, Chelsea. Base 87, maximum 102. Skills: Phenomenal Pass, Long-reach Tackle, Shadow Hunt.
Three skills is the most of any featured card in the current pack rotation. The combination of winning the ball and distributing it is precisely the role that made his name a tactical shorthand.
Long-reach Tackle appears on two of the three, which gives the pack a thematic thread in the same way Snap Strike does for its own set.
The rating gap is 15 to 17 points
This is the number to internalise before 7 September.
All three cards have an identical base rating of 87. The 104, 103 and 102 you see in the promotional material are maximum possible ratings, reachable only through full progression and the right manager boost.
That's a gap of 15 to 17 points, and it's the standard shape for Epic cards. It also means the difference between the three ceilings — Čech's 104 against Makélélé's 102 — comes entirely from their progression curves, not from where they start. On draw day, all three are 87.
For comparison, the other packs in this rotation behave completely differently:
- Snap Strike (Epic) — 15 to 17 point gap, same as this one.
- POTW Worldwide 3 Sep — a gap of one or two points.
- PFA TOTY (POTS) — no gap at all.
The reason is training. Epic cards close their gap through progression points invested over weeks. POTW and POTS cards cannot be trained, so what they show is what they are.
The practical consequence: an English League Guardians card is a project, not an immediate upgrade. If your defence needs help this week, POTS and POTW cards will do more for you right now. If you're building for the next few months, these ceilings are considerably higher.
A pack for the half of the pitch nobody drafts for
Worth stating plainly, because it's what makes this pack useful.
Most players spend their coins on attackers. The current rotation reflects it — Snap Strike is three centre-forwards, POTW is three attacking midfielders plus Messi. Defensive cards are treated as squad filler that you acquire incidentally.
English League Guardians is the exception, and it lands on the three positions that quietly decide matches: goalkeeper, centre-back, defensive midfielder.
Čech at a 104 ceiling is the strongest argument. Goalkeeper is the single most under-invested position in most eFootball squads, and the difference between a mid-80s keeper and a fully-trained 104 is felt in every match rather than in the occasional attacking sequence.
Makélélé's three-skill spread makes him the most complete of the three. A DMF who breaks up play and then distributes cleanly reduces the load on your midfield in both phases — and since v6.0.0 separated attacking and defending Playing Styles, a player who genuinely contributes to both is more valuable than he would have been under the old system.
What isn't published yet
- Draw cost and draw limit. Neither appears on the promotional material; both will show when the pack opens on 7 September.
- The full player pool. Only the three featured cards have been shown.
- Playing Styles for each card, which will appear on the in-game details screen.
Check the details screen before you spend. With attacking and defending Playing Styles now handled separately, a defender's fit with your tactical setup is a two-part question, and it's not something the promotional art tells you.
A regional caveat
The promotional material carries a note that the campaign may not be available in certain countries or regions, and that the schedule and details are subject to change without notice.
Check your own client on 7 September rather than assuming availability from coverage written elsewhere.
Should you plan for it?
Yes, if your goalkeeper is the weak link. A 104 ceiling on a GK is the standout number in this rotation, and it's a position where an upgrade is felt constantly.
Yes, if you're building over months rather than for this week. Epic ceilings reward patience in a way POTW and POTS cards can't.
Wait, if your coins are committed elsewhere. Snap Strike closes before this pack opens, and PFA TOTY runs for another fortnight — so there's a natural order to work through.
Skip, if you need immediate improvement. An 87-rated card on draw day won't outperform what you're already fielding until you've invested in it.
Building the squad behind the spine
Epic cards only reach the ceilings on the promotional art with the progression points, manager fit and squad chemistry behind them — and that investment takes far longer than the draw itself. Browse verified eFootball accounts if you'd rather build around a squad that already holds fully-trained Epics, book eFootball hourly services to grind coins and progression before the pack opens, or push your rank through eFootball boosting while the current rotation runs.
