Supercell's final August balance patch is live, and it's the broadest rebalance Clash Royale has seen in years — roughly forty cards touched, plus one systemwide change that reprices a large chunk of the roster at once. Every Hero and Champion ability now works only once per deployment instead of cycling on a cooldown. All four Spirits lose hitpoints and can no longer reach your Crown Tower on their own. And Void has been rebuilt from a 3-Elixir spell into a 5-Elixir one with roughly double the damage. Here's what changed and what it means for your deck.

One note before the numbers: Supercell scales all published values at Level 11, and changes to a card's base form usually carry through to its Evolution and Hero versions as well.

Abilities Are Now Single-Use

This is the change with the widest reach. Every Hero and Champion ability now activates once per deployment rather than recharging on a cooldown. The only exception is Boss Bandit, whose ability was built around rapid consecutive activations in the first place.

Supercell's reasoning is that cooldowns weren't adding enough meaningful gameplay to justify the complexity they introduced. The practical effect is a repricing of the whole Hero and Champion pool: cards whose single activation is decisive gain value, while anything that leaned on repeat activations to grind out advantage loses it. The studio says it will keep monitoring and adjust the cards hit hardest over the coming months.

Three Champions got compensating buffs alongside the change:

  • Goblinstein — Doctor Damage up from 92 to 135 (+47%), with Ability Damage per Second down from 214 to 188 (-12%)
  • Little Prince — Hit Speed Conservation introduced at 0.3s, up from none, so he now keeps his charged-up hit speed briefly while moving instead of losing it the moment he repositions. Guardienne Damage rises from 217 to 232 (+7%)
  • Mighty Miner — Base Damage from 40 to 43 (+6%), which lets him two-shot Skeletons at every level

Little Prince's change is the interesting one, because hit-speed conservation is a mechanic the game hasn't had before. Retargeting no longer wipes out his ramp-up.

The Spirit Nerf and Why It Happened

Fire Spirit, Ice Spirit, Heal Spirit, and Electro Spirit all take the same treatment:

  • Hitpoints: 230 to 215 (-6%)
  • No longer connect to Crown Towers on their own
  • Now killed in a single shot by Archers, Archer Queen, Bomber, Musketeer, and Tesla

The reasoning is spelled out at length in the patch notes, and it's a use-rate problem. Supercell says Spirits have held a combined use rate of 53% in the Top 200 and 31% in Ranked through 2026, with decks increasingly cutting support troops and spells to fit more of them. The studio's complaint is that a Spirit was a guaranteed positive Elixir trade in almost any situation — stunning, healing, distracting, clearing swarms, and chipping the tower while cycling you toward your Heroes and Evolutions.

Cutting the hitpoints makes that value situational rather than assured, and removing tower connection reclassifies Spirits as distraction, cycle, and crowd-control cards rather than a source of free chip damage.

Worth knowing: the work-in-progress notes floated a Speed nerf as an alternative, and Supercell picked the hitpoints route after player feedback, judging it more impactful on defensive interactions without changing how Spirits move. The studio explicitly says a Speed nerf remains possible in future patches.

One knock-on effect got its own compensation. Furnace has its Spawn Speed cut from 7s to 5s (-29%), because the non-Evolution version was heavily exposed to the Fire Spirit nerf.

Void Becomes a 5-Elixir Spell

Void is the single most dramatic card change in the patch. Its Elixir cost goes from 3 to 5 and its Hit Frequency slows from 1s to 1.2s (+20%), but the damage roughly doubles across the board:

  • Single target: 340 to 696 (+105%)
  • Two to four targets: 161 to 294 (+83%)
  • Five or more targets: 76 to 153 (+100%)
  • Crown Tower damage doubles at every target count — 48 to 97, 25 to 51, and 17 to 35 respectively

Supercell's stated goal is to create the game's first 5-Elixir damage spell, positioned as an answer to tankier ranged units like Bowler, Executioner, and Hunter — cards that previously required 6 Elixir of spell investment to remove. The cost rises 67% while damage roughly doubles, so damage per Elixir improves even as the card becomes far harder to fit into a cycle deck.

Recurring Healing Gets Dismantled

Supercell states plainly that it doesn't believe recurring healing mechanics belong in Clash Royale in their current form, and two cards were rebuilt accordingly.

Witch Evolution now heals only from her first Skeleton wave, ending the pattern where she topped herself up indefinitely as she kept spawning. In exchange, Heal per Skeleton jumps from 53 to 153 (+186%) and Max Hitpoints rise from 1040 to 1451 (+40%) — front-loaded survivability instead of an endless drip.

Battle Healer no longer heals herself at all. Her other stats shift substantially to compensate: Damage from 148 to 268 (+81%), Hit Speed slowed from 1.5s to 2s (+33%), Hitpoints from 1717 to 1920 (+12%), and Heal Radius cut from 4000 to 3000 (-25%). She's now a slower, harder-hitting support unit that keeps her team alive rather than outlasting everything herself.

Evolutions Take the Biggest Hits

Supercell describes the targeted Evolutions as <cite index="38-1">"dominant for over a year and disproportionately strong compared to their base forms."</cite> Five got cut:

  • Mega Knight Evolution — Uppercut fires every other attack instead of every attack, with Heavy Troop Knockback increased from 2.5 to 4 tiles (+60%) as partial compensation
  • Valkyrie Evolution — Tornado Damage halved, 84 to 42 (-50%)
  • Archers Evolution — Power Shot Damage from 168 to 140 (-17%)
  • Goblin Barrel Evolution — Decoy Goblin Damage from 89 to 66 (-26%)
  • Giant Snowball Evolution — Roll Range from 4.5 to 4 tiles (-11%)
  • Goblin Cage Evolution — now requires 2 cycles instead of 1, offset by Damage per Second rising from 337 to 366 and Capture Cooldown dropping from 0.5s to 0.3s

Two Evolutions went the other way, part of a stated effort to shift which Evolutions see play:

  • Minion Horde Evolution — Hit Speed Slowdown reduced from 50% to 33%
  • Princess Evolution — now slows every other attack instead of every three, with Slow Duration cut from 7s to 5.5s (-21%)

Base Cards Get Power Back from Their Alternate Forms

A separate section addresses cards whose base version had been overshadowed by their Evolution or Hero forms, reallocating power back toward the originals:

  • Mortar — base Hit Speed improves from 5s to 4.7s, while Evolved Mortar slows from 4s to 4.7s. Both forms now share the same hit speed
  • Barbarians — base Hitpoints from 691 to 716 (+4%), while Evolved Barbarians lose their 10% hitpoint bonus entirely, with Rage Duration extended from 3s to 5s (+67%) in exchange
  • Goblins — Goblin Damage from 120 to 125 (+4%), while Hero Goblins' Banner Brigade drops from 3 Goblins to 2, with Deploy Time cut from 1.3s to 1s

The Other Reworks

  • Hero Ice Golem — the third blast now applies a Slow rather than a Freeze, with Damage per Blast up from 38 to 69 (+80%). Supercell found the freeze too oppressive paired with Hog Rider; the combined blasts now kill Goblins
  • Hero Mega Minion — Tower Damage Reduction rises from 50% to 75% and becomes permanent instead of lasting 5s, with Warp Damage up from 373 to 399 (+7%). The ability is now aimed at killing troops rather than tearing down towers
  • Rune Giant — Enchantment Cast Time drops from 1s to 0s so she keeps moving while enchanting, Hitpoints rise from 2662 to 2816 (+6%), and she no longer enchants self-destructing troops
  • Goblin Curse — gains a 15% enemy slowdown, making it harder to walk out of the cursed area before transforming
  • Goblin Machine — Rocket Travel Speed from 250 to 350 (+40%), Rocket Hit Speed slowed from 3.5s to 5s, Melee Damage from 212 to 232 (+9%), Hitpoints from 2150 to 2265 (+5%)

Supercell notes these reworks may be reverted if they don't produce the intended effect.

Remaining Nerfs and Buffs

Cut back:

  • Wall Breakers — Damage from 350 to 281 (-20%), reducing the 700-damage threat they posed if left unanswered
  • Goblin Drill — guaranteed Crown Tower spawn damage removed, though the spawned Goblins deal 4% more damage
  • Bowler and Executioner — Projectile Range from 7.5 to 7 tiles (-7%), so neither clips Crown Towers from behind the bridge anymore
  • Royal Delivery — Damage from 437 to 384 (-12%)
  • Magic Archer — Damage from 143 to 135 (-5%)
  • Zappies — Hit Speed slowed from 2.1s to 2.2s

Buffed:

  • Hero Tombstone — Damage from 320 to 422 (+32%), Sight Range from 5.5 to 7 tiles (+27%), Hitpoints from 4044 to 4224. Supercell says that if Tomb Queen still misses the meta after this, a rework to target troops is on the table
  • Spear Goblins — Hit Speed from 1.7s to 1.6s, addressing low defensive DPS after their earlier range nerf
  • Suspicious Bush — Bush Goblin Hitpoints from 304 to 337 (+11%)

Two bug fixes round it out. Ronin's First Hit Time moves from 0.3s to 0.4s, fixing a timing issue that let parry and melee damage land on the same tick against a charging Dark Prince, and his parry no longer cancels Golden Knight's dash. X-Bow has its stats reallocated — Hit Speed 0.3s to 0.4s, Damage 43 to 58, Projectile Speed 1400 to 1600 — to stop it wasting shots on targets already killed at the edge of its range, for a net DPS increase of 1.4%.

Supercell also confirmed that Barbarian Hut didn't make this batch but sits high on the list for a future patch.

What This Means for Your Deck

The honest advice is to wait a few days before spending upgrade resources. A patch that changes forty cards plus a systemwide ability mechanic doesn't settle into a readable meta immediately, and several of these reworks are explicitly flagged as reversible if they don't land.

What you can reason about now: cycle decks built around multiple Spirits lose a chunk of their free value and their chip damage entirely. Anything that relied on repeat ability activations is weaker than it was last week. And Void becomes a genuinely new tool — a 5-Elixir spell slot the game has never had — which is the change most likely to create decks that didn't exist before.
