Season 86 went live on Monday, 3 August 2026, and it lands heavier than a normal monthly rotation. Supercell has shipped two Heroes at once Hero Berserker and Hero Valkyrie plus Evolution Elite Barbarians, a new ranked event called Ken's Chaos Draft League, and a balance patch that changes how every Hero and Champion ability works. Two of the three new cards have free unlock routes attached to seasonal events, which means the next few weeks matter more than usual if you want them without touching Pass Royale. Here's what dropped, how to unlock each piece, and what to chase first.

What's live right now

The season is themed entirely around chaos, and the content splits into four parts:

  • Hero Berserker, unlockable free through Ken's Chaos Draft League
  • Hero Valkyrie, available through Pass Royale
  • Evolution Elite Barbarians, free through Ken's Shop during the season
  • Chaos events — the ranked Draft League, three limited-time modifiers, custom Chaos Draft tournaments, and a Chaos Mega Draft Global Tournament

Riding alongside all of it is the August balance patch, which arrived with the season rather than separately. That patch is the part most likely to change your existing decks, so it gets its own section below.

A quick note on terms, since Season 86 stacks three of them. A Hero is an alternate version of an existing card with an activated ability, swapped in place of the original. An Evolution is an upgraded form of a card that triggers after it has cycled through your deck a set number of times. A draft format hands you a shared pool of cards to pick from before the match, so you're not playing your usual eight.

Hero Berserker and Berserk Mode

Berserker has spent most of 2026 as a cheap cycle option — a two-elixir melee body used to soak damage and keep a rotation moving rather than to win fights outright. The Hero version rewrites that job description.

Her ability puts her into Berserk Mode: her spirit animal appears, her hit speed increases, and for the duration she cannot be reduced below 1 HP. She still takes damage, and she still dies the moment the ability ends if she's been chewed up — but while it's running, she cannot be killed. That's a different kind of survivability from a damage-reduction shield. A shield lowers the damage you need to survive; this removes the possibility of dying inside the window entirely, which means she finishes whatever she started.

The practical consequence is that raw damage output stops being an answer to her during the ability. Dropping a heavy counter on top of a Berserker mid-ability doesn't stop the trade, it just wastes elixir at the worst possible time. What does work is spacing and patience: pull her away from the target that matters, let the window expire, and punish her afterwards, when her low base hitpoints reassert themselves. Timing your defence around the ability rather than against it is the whole matchup.

How to unlock her: free, through Ken's Chaos Draft League. The ranked run lasts two weeks, so this is the deadline to actually put in the calendar.

Hero Valkyrie and Wild Whirlwind

Valkyrie has been a dependable splash-damage mini-tank for years — good against swarms, poor at reaching anything hiding behind them. The Hero version, whose ability is called Wild Whirlwind, targets exactly that weakness.

When activated, she gains a speed boost and dashes toward the nearest enemy, then enters a spinning stage that deals area damage around her for the duration. If nothing is left nearby to dash toward, she keeps spinning on her way forward rather than stopping. Unlike Hero Berserker, she can be damaged and killed while the ability is running, so there's no safety net — you're trading her survivability for reach.

That reach is the point. Ranged support troops normally sit safely behind a tank while a standard Valkyrie grinds through the front line. The dash lets her skip the queue and land in the middle of the support cluster, which is where her area damage is worth the most. The trade-off is obvious once you picture it: she's now surrounded, taking damage from several directions, on a clock. Activating early and hoping is how you feed her; activating when there's a specific cluster worth reaching is how she pays off.

How to unlock her: through Pass Royale this season.

Evolution Elite Barbarians throw before they charge

Elite Barbarians have always been a blunt instrument — two fast, hard-hitting bodies that either connect or die trying. The Evolution gives them something they've never had: ranged pressure.

Evolved Elite Barbarians throw Rage-tipped javelins at enemy troops and Crown Towers before charging in. The javelins leave a glowing Rage trail across the Arena that boosts their aggression as they advance, so the ranged opening isn't a separate mode — it's the setup for the same charge you already know how to defend against, except now it starts with damage already on the board.

For anyone who has been countering Elite Barbarians by trading cheap distraction units into them, that maths changes. Chip damage lands before your defence is even placed, and the Rage trail means the charge that follows arrives faster and hits harder than the baseline version. Expect the card to show up immediately at ladder ranks where Elite Barbarians were already popular.

How to unlock it: free through Ken's Shop during the August season. This one is the easiest of the three to secure, so grab it early rather than assuming it'll still be sitting there in week four.

Ken's Chaos Draft League and the Chaos modes

Ken's Chaos Draft League is the headline event and the route to a free Hero, so treat it as the season's main track.

The format is a traditional draft: you pick four cards for yourself, and the four you pass on go to your opponent. Once drafting is done, you choose a modifier that changes how the match plays out. The ranked season runs for two weeks and carries substantial rewards, with the Hero Berserker unlock sitting on the track.

Because you're building from a shared pool rather than your own deck, card levels and collection depth matter less than usual here. That makes the League one of the more accessible free-Hero routes the game has offered recently — the skill being tested is denial and on-the-fly synergy, not upgrade investment. Deciding which card hurts your opponent most to receive is often worth more than taking the strongest card for yourself.

Around the League sit three limited-time Chaos modes: Epic Only Chaos, Sudden Death Chaos, and Infinite Elixir Chaos. You can also create your own Chaos Draft tournaments for clanmates and friends, and Chaos gameplay shows up in Friendly Battles and selected casual modes. Capping the season is the Chaos Mega Draft Global Tournament, which applies the same draft-then-modify concept in a competitive leaderboard setting.

If the format feels familiar, that's because chaos has been building for a while — the mode returned earlier in 2026 with a progression revamp, and last month's Season 85: Honor & Exile ran a triple-draft iteration alongside the Ronin release. Season 86 makes it the centrepiece rather than a side event.

The balance patch changes how abilities work

The August balance changes shipped with the season, and one systemwide adjustment overshadows the individual card tweaks: Hero and Champion abilities are moving to single-use rather than sitting on a cooldown you can cycle. Supercell's reasoning, in the balance notes, is that ability cooldowns weren't adding enough meaningful gameplay to justify their complexity.

That reprices a large chunk of the card pool at once. An ability you used to activate twice during a long push is now a single decision per deployment, which pushes value toward Heroes whose one activation is decisive and away from those that leaned on repeat use to grind out value. Several Evolutions took direct nerfs in the same patch, and the four Spirits were adjusted so they no longer connect to Crown Towers on their own.

The upshot: don't judge the new Heroes against the pre-patch meta. Both arrive into a rule set where a single ability activation carries more weight than it did last week, which flatters Berserk Mode's guaranteed-completion design in particular. If you're re-evaluating which Hero deserves your Elite Wild Cards, our 2026 Hero tier list covers the existing roster, though placements will shift once ladder data from the new patch settles.

What to prioritise this week

Season 86 runs about four weeks, but the important deadlines are shorter than that:

  • Ken's Chaos Draft League is a two-week ranked run and the free Hero Berserker route. Start it first.
  • Evolution Elite Barbarians through Ken's Shop is the lowest-effort pickup of the three. Claim it early.
  • Hero Valkyrie sits on Pass Royale, so it depends on whether you were buying the Pass anyway rather than on grinding.
  • Deck rebuilds can wait a few days. With abilities going single-use and multiple Evolutions adjusted, the ladder will look different in a week than it does today — no reason to burn upgrade resources on a guess.

If your account is still working through Arena progression and this is the season you'd rather not miss, the broader March 2026 progression overhaul explains how Trophy Road and Collection Levels now feed into the endgame.
