Clash of Clans Card Hunt Guide: Faster Sets, Smarter Trades
By Michael Pras 4 August 2026, 01:00 WIB
Here's the part that catches most Chiefs out: Card Hunt hands you up to 68 card packs from battles across August, but the top milestone needs 60 different cards — and packs you open are random, so duplicates are guaranteed. Collecting 68 packs does not get you 60 unique cards. Trading does. That single gap between packs opened and cards owned is what decides whether you finish the Clash of Cards collection or stall in the forties, and everything below is built around closing it. Trading shuts down on 2 September at 08:00 UTC, and several free pack sources expire well before that, so the calendar matters as much as the grind.
How Card Hunt actually works
Card Hunt is the main engine of the month-long Clash of Cards event, running the full stretch of August. During raids, packs are hidden in buildings — destroy the right ones and the pack drops. Each pack contains exactly one card featuring a Clash troop, and the cards are split across rarity tiers, with some considerably harder to land than others.
The pacing is fixed by design. You collect 2 packs per day from battles, plus a batch of 10 packs from the start of the event, which is how the official ceiling of up to 68 cards from battles alone is calculated. Supercell has been direct about this: there's no bait, no trick, and no way to squeeze extra packs out of a raid. Attacking twenty times in a day earns exactly the same as hitting the daily two and logging off.
That's genuinely good news for anyone who can't grind. The battle portion of this event is not a competition of hours played — it's a competition of days not missed. Skip three days and you've lost six packs that no amount of catch-up attacking will return.
A few terms worth fixing now, since the rest of the guide leans on them. A pack is the container; a card is what's inside. A duplicate is a second or later copy of a card you already own — not waste, but your trading currency. A set is a full rarity group, and milestones are thresholds based on how many different cards you've collected.
The math problem nobody mentions
Sixty-eight packs sounds comfortable against a sixty-card target until you account for randomness. Every pack is an independent pull from a pool where you already own an increasing share of the cards. Early packs land new cards almost every time. By the time you're past forty unique, most of what you open is something you already have.
This is why the last stretch of the collection is where players get stuck, and why the ceiling of 68 packs is not a ceiling of 68 cards. The players who complete the collection aren't the ones who attacked more. They're the ones who converted their duplicate pile efficiently and started asking clanmates early, while there was still time for requests to cycle.
Treat every duplicate as currency the moment it appears, not as a disappointment.
Every free card source, and when each one expires
Order your month around these, because several have hard dates:
- The Trader — 4, 11, and 18 August. Free packs on each of those three dates, and you can pick up three cards just by confirming the login. This is the highest return for the least effort in the entire event, and the first one lands tomorrow.
- Supercell Store tasks — 3 to 30 August. Exclusive tasks award free packs, alongside various free card offers. Worth checking weekly rather than once.
- Medal Event — 12 to 31 August. The free track hands out bonus packs. No tickets required, so this costs you nothing but participation.
- Card Hunt battles — 1 to 31 August. Your daily two, plus the opening batch of ten.
- Tutorial. Your first pack is waiting the moment you complete the card collection tutorial.
- Official social channels. Exclusive cards get shared through Clash's own channels during the month.
If you only remember one line from this guide: the Trader dates are the ones people forget. They're single-day windows and they don't come back.
Trading with clanmates is the real bottleneck
Trading happens in Clan Chat. From your collection screen you request a card you're missing, the request appears in chat, and clanmates can answer it with one of their duplicates. If nobody has a spare — or nobody wants to part with theirs — gems can also complete a trade.
The rules that shape your strategy:
- Only duplicates can be traded. If you hold exactly one copy of a card, it stays in your collection. You need a second copy before it becomes tradeable.
- Requests have a cooldown before you can send another, similar to Clan Castle troop requests, which keeps chat readable. Gems can skip the wait if you're impatient.
- Greyed-out cards in your collection are the ones you don't own yet, and they're what you request against.
The efficiency trick sits in the collection screen itself: you can tap the Clash of Cards decoration in another player's village to view their collection. Scout first, find out who's actually holding the duplicate you need, then send the request. Blind requests burn your cooldown; targeted ones don't.
Two habits that compound over a month: post what you're hunting rather than only what you're offering, and answer other people's requests generously early on. A clan where duplicates circulate freely finishes far more collections than one where everyone hoards. You are not competing with your clanmates here — the rewards aren't ranked.
Trader Shop rates, and when converting beats waiting
When duplicates pile up faster than anyone will trade for them, the Trader Shop turns them into fresh pulls. The exchange rates:
- 2 duplicates of the same card for 1 random card
- 2 duplicates of the same card for 1 random Elixir card
- 2 duplicates of the same card for 1 random Dark Elixir card
- 2 duplicates of the same card for 1 random Builder Base card
- 3 duplicates of the same card for 1 random Super Troop card
The catch that trips people up: the duplicates have to be copies of the same card, and you need at least three copies to use these offers, because the Trader won't take your last duplicate. Two Barbarian cards and two Archer cards don't combine.
The timing judgement is straightforward once you see it. Early in the month, hold your duplicates — clanmates are still missing common cards and will trade for them. Late in the month, when everyone's collection has converged and nobody needs your spares, convert them. The rarity-targeted exchanges are especially useful for closing out a specific set rather than gambling on a fully random pull.
What you're actually playing for
Milestones are based on different cards collected, not packs opened:
- 10 cards: Card Book decoration
- 20 cards: 5,000 Shiny Ore
- 30 cards: 500 Glowy Ore
- 40 cards: 50 Starry Ore
- 50 cards: 2 Builder Potions
- 60 cards: Manga Fury Prince skin
Completing full rarity sets pays separately: all Elixir cards award an Elixir Rune, all Dark Elixir cards a Dark Elixir Rune, all Builder Base cards a Gold Rune, and all Super Troop cards a Legendary Chest. The Clash of Cards decoration is available from the start of the event and keeps your collection viewable permanently, even after August ends.
The ore and Rune rewards are the quietly valuable half of that list for anyone mid-progression — they feed directly into Hero Equipment and upgrade timelines. If you're weighing where those resources should go afterwards, our Pet Tier List priorities covers the Dark Elixir side of that decision, and the June 2026 patch notes breakdown explains the Hero progression changes those upgrades feed into.
A daily routine that takes five minutes
- Every day: hit your two battle packs. Two attacks, done — this is the one thing that can't be recovered later.
- Every day: open your packs and immediately flag anything that's now a tradeable duplicate.
- On 4, 11 and 18 August: log in for the Trader's free packs.
- Weekly: check Supercell Store tasks through 30 August.
- From 12 August: work the Medal Event free track.
- From roughly the third week: stop hoarding duplicates and start converting the stacks nobody wants at the Trader Shop.
- Before 2 September, 08:00 UTC: finish outstanding trades. The window closes on a fixed time, not at your convenience.
August is a dense month besides the cards — the August 2026 Gold Pass runs alongside it, and if you're still recovering your upgrade queue from last month's discount wave, our Barbarian's Odyssey recap covers what carried over.
