War Thunder Desert Predator: AMV BMP-3 Rewards and Grind
By Sir Ayup 30 September 2026, 00:00 WIB
Gaijin has announced Desert Predator, War Thunder's next ground event, running from October 1 to October 19. The prize is the AMV (BMP-3), a Patria AMV hull carrying a BMP-3 turret, arriving as a Rank VI event light tank for Sweden. The format is the now-standard stage marathon: nine two-day stages, 35,000 mission points each, with the vehicle coupon at stage eight. The rules are published in full, which means the grind can be planned before it starts. Here is what it costs, where the time pressure sits, and how the Golden Eagle and Market routes change the math.
The short version
- Event window: October 1, 11:00 GMT to October 19, 11:00 GMT. Stage purchases with Golden Eagles stay open until October 23, 11:00 GMT.
- Vehicle: AMV (BMP-3), Rank VI event light tank for Sweden. Patria AMV chassis, BMP-3 turret, 100 km/h, 30 mm autocannon plus a 100 mm gun-launcher firing HE and two ATGM types. Battle Rating not published.
- Nine stages, 35,000 mission points each, changing every two days at 11:00 GMT. The non-tradable vehicle coupon unlocks at eight stages; stage nine adds a unique camouflage and four random modifications.
- Points come from Ground Battles at Rank III or above in Arcade, Realistic and Simulator, awarded only at the end of a battle, with a multiplier by mode and vehicle rank. Rank I–II event vehicles also count.
- Rewards are not auto-delivered: collect each one manually under Nickname > Achievements > Desert Predator.
- A tradable coupon for the Market needs a separate "Upgrade for coupon" item earned at 600,000 mission points over the same window.
- Missed stages can be bought with Golden Eagles, with steep discounts close to completion: half price at 85% progress, one fifth at 95%.
The vehicle
The AMV (BMP-3) is a hybrid shown at IDEX 2007 in Abu Dhabi and still in UAE service. The Finnish hull was lengthened to take the Russian turret; in-game it is a wheeled light tank at 100 km/h with a 30 mm for close work and a 100 mm gun-launcher for HE and ATGMs.
Two things matter for planning. It goes to Sweden, not the USSR. And Gaijin has not published a BR, so where it sits in Rank VI is unknown until launch. Cosmetics are two UAE decals — Presidential Guard Emblem and Armed Forces Emblem — a loading screen, and a bicolor desert camouflage tied to stage nine.
The stage schedule, and why it is strict
Stages change at 11:00 GMT on October 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17. Counting from the October 1 opening to the October 19 close, that is nine stages of exactly 48 hours each.
The consequence is the one that decides most people's outcome: a stage is only earnable during its own 48 hours. Points scored after a stage rolls over count toward the next stage, not the one you missed. There is no catching up on the final weekend. The only recovery for a missed stage is Golden Eagles.
The grind per stage is 35,000 mission points in two days, or roughly 17,500 per day. What that means in matches depends on the multiplier shown in the task description in-game, which scales with mode and the maximum Rank of the vehicle you bring. Higher-rank vehicles and Realistic or Simulator battles pay more per match; Rank III in Arcade pays least. Gaijin does not publish the multiplier table in the announcement, so the honest planning number is "check the task description on October 1 and divide."
Eight stages are needed for the coupon. That leaves exactly one stage of slack across nineteen days. Miss two, and the vehicle is either bought or gone.
Rewards by stage
- 1 stage: trophy with a random reward
- 2 stages: one of the two UAE decals
- 3 stages: trophy
- 4 stages: the other decal
- 5 stages: trophy
- 6 stages: "Patria AMV BMP-3" loading screen
- 7 stages: trophy
- 8 stages: non-tradable coupon for the AMV (BMP-3)
- 9 stages: unique camouflage and four random modifications for the vehicle
The trophies roll from a fixed pool: 50,000–100,000 Silver Lions, Silver Lion and Research Point boosters, random Wagers and Orders, one to three Universal Backups, a random camouflage for a vehicle you own, or one day of Premium Account.
Note that stage nine's four random modifications are the only research shortcut on offer. The vehicle arrives stock at stage eight; stage nine is what makes it usable faster.
The Golden Eagle discount, with the numbers
Unfinished stages can be bought until October 23, and the price drops sharply near completion. Gaijin's examples: at 30,000 of 35,000 points (about 86%), a stage costs 349 Golden Eagles; at 33,500 (about 96%), it costs 139. Working backward, a stage bought from zero is in the region of 695–700 Golden Eagles.
That structure rewards partial effort. Reaching 85% of a stage and paying half is far cheaper than skipping it and paying full, and reaching 95% cuts the bill to a fifth. For a player who can commit to most days but not all, the practical plan is to push every stage as far as time allows even when a full clear is out of reach, then buy the remainder. The discounts are on the last stretch, not the first.
The Market route: 600,000 points
The stage-eight coupon is non-tradable. Selling the vehicle on the Market requires the separate "Upgrade for coupon" item, earned in parallel for 600,000 mission points across the same October 1–19 window. Applied to the coupon via Modify in the inventory, it makes the coupon tradable, sellable six days after creation. The item itself expires October 23 and can be exchanged for War Bonds instead of used.
The comparison is stark. Eight stages for the vehicle total 280,000 points. The tradable upgrade is 600,000 on its own, and it does not replace the stages — it sits alongside them. A player aiming to sell needs both, which is 880,000 points in nineteen days. That is more than three times the grind for keeping the vehicle. Unless the AMV (BMP-3) commands a high Market price, which no one can know until coupons start listing around late October, the upgrade is a commitment for dedicated grinders, not an afterthought.
What isn't known
- The Battle Rating. Gaijin lists Rank VI and nothing more.
- The mission point multipliers. They are shown in-game per mode and rank, not in the announcement.
- The exact full price of a stage in Golden Eagles. The 695–700 figure is derived from Gaijin's two discount examples, not stated directly.
- The Market value of the tradable coupon. Nothing lists before the event ends.
- How the vehicle performs. No Battle Rating, no armor or ammunition detail beyond the two guns.
What to do
- Decide on October 1 whether you are going for eight stages. With one stage of slack, the decision cannot wait until mid-event.
- Read the multiplier in the task description before choosing what to play. Rank and mode decide how many matches 35,000 points takes.
- Bring your highest-rank Swedish or any-nation lineup you can play consistently. The multiplier favors rank; consistency favors what you actually win in.
- Never abandon a stage at 60%. Push to 85% or 95% and buy the rest; the discounts only exist near the finish.
- Collect rewards manually after each stage. They sit in Achievements until claimed.
- Skip the 600,000-point upgrade unless you are certain you will sell. For most players the vehicle is the reward; the tradable coupon is a separate project.
- Mark October 23. That is the last day for both Golden Eagle purchases and the upgrade item.
Marketplace
Nine stages in nineteen days is a schedule, not a suggestion — if you want the AMV (BMP-3) without clearing 35,000 points every two days yourself, War Thunder boosting covers the stages you can't.
