HSR x ZZZ Collab Lands in 4.8: What's Confirmed and What Isn't

HoYoverse's Version 4.6 announcement confirmed that the Honkai: Star Rail x Zenless Zone Zero collaboration arrives in Version 4.8, bringing Ellen and Astra Yao aboard the Astral Express.

Updated 22 October 2026. This article covers the HSR side of the crossover, with the October trailer announcement added below. Dates calculated from patch cycles remain estimates.

That announcement confirms the guests and the version, but does not reveal their Paths, elements, kits or banner structure.

And the leaks filling that gap contradict each other. Here's what's actually known.

The short version

• The collaboration goes live in HSR Version 4.8. Around 21 December 2026 is a patch-cycle estimate, not an announced release date.
• Ellen and Astra Yao are the confirmed characters.
• Their Paths, elements and kits have not been announced.
• Leaks disagree on both characters' roles — treat all of it as unverified.
• Version 4.6 launched on 28 September. Version 4.7 comes before the collaboration; check its official banner details before spending a saved reserve.
• Plan from your current Stellar Jade balance, pity and guarantee. The number of versions alone does not determine how many pulls you can save.

What HoYoverse actually said

The collaboration officially goes live in Version 4.8. Ellen and Astra Yao will begin their adventure in Star Rail, with more announced later.

The announcement does not establish the story, event structure or whether the guests use a standard banner or another distribution format.

October update: the collaboration trailer

HoYoverse's October ZZZ announcement states that the collaboration trailer is now available. A trailer announcement is separate from the playable event's start date.

HSR Version 4.8 should not be treated as a ZZZ version number. Check the two games' official announcements separately for their event schedules and distribution details.

The leaks contradict each other

This is the part worth being careful about, because the gap between what's confirmed and what's circulating is wide.

On Ellen:

• One leak describes her as a 5-star Ice Destruction unit, given away free to all players.
• Another describes her as following the Path of the Hunt.

On Astra Yao:

• One leak describes her as a 5-star Quantum support on a limited collaboration banner.
• Another describes her as an Elation character.

These labels need to be compared correctly. Destruction and Hunt are different Paths. Quantum is an element and Elation is a Path, so those two labels are not inherently contradictory. None of these leaked labels establishes an official HSR kit.

The official announcement cited here does not confirm a free Ellen. Do not count a rumored giveaway as part of your pull budget.

A character's ZZZ combat role does not determine their HSR Path, element or skills. The two games use different combat systems, so wait for their HSR character details before making build or team plans.

Treat every role, Path and element claim as unverified until HoYoverse publishes them.

Three versions, one Stellar Jade balance

Version 4.6 is already running. Plan the remaining banners around the reserve you want to keep for 4.8.

Version 4.6 launched on 28 September. A 42-day-cycle projection places 4.7 around 9 November and 4.8 around 21 December. Those dates are planning estimates, not confirmed maintenance schedules; an official schedule takes precedence.

Each version creates a spending decision:

4.6 brings Pearl — a 5-star Ice character on the Path of Elation, built around Certified Banger and Deep Learning. Certified Banger offsets part of the damage allies take, while Deep Learning studies a chosen teammate's combat data to grant an Enhanced ATK. Selecting another Elation character adds Elation DMG to that attack, and a full Elation team can grant the selected teammate an extra turn.

4.7 comes before the collaboration. Review its official character announcements, banners and previews before deciding whether they justify spending your collaboration reserve.

4.8 brings the collaboration.

Your reserve depends on current pity, whether your next limited character is guaranteed, and the rewards you can actually claim. Leave room for uncertainty until the collaboration's distribution details are announced.

Decide your priority before pulling. With 4.6 already running, check what a current banner adds to your roster and how much it would leave for the collaboration.

Why the collaboration is worth weighing carefully

Two considerations pull in opposite directions.

In favour of saving for it: this is the first crossover of its kind between HoYoverse's flagship titles. Collaboration characters in most games don't rerun on a predictable schedule, and a licence-free internal crossover still depends on the studio choosing to bring it back.

Against: you don't know what you're saving for. Paths and kits are unannounced, and a support whose value depends on team synergy could be excellent or redundant depending on your roster. Committing three versions of savings to an unrevealed kit is a real gamble.

A practical approach: use the rest of 4.6 to save, then reassess when 4.7's official details are available. Character announcements and previews provide a better basis for a pull decision than an assumed kit.

Also announced

A Razer collaboration was revealed in the same broadcast — a Silver Wolf LV.999-themed collection including a gaming chair, keyboard, mouse and headset, with a simultaneous multi-region release. Product details are coming later.

• Ellen and Astra Yao's Paths, elements and kits.
• Whether either is free, despite persistent leaks claiming Ellen will be.

• The full ZZZ-side event schedule and character distribution details.

What to do

Start from your current account. Count your Jades, passes, pity and guarantee, then choose a reserve target. A fixed number of versions is not a promise of enough pulls for every character.

Wait for official role and Path details. Rumors are not a reliable basis for a build, team or spending plan.

Keep a pull reserve until the distribution method is confirmed. Treat a free-character claim as unverified unless HoYoverse announces it.

Watch official Special Programs and character announcements for updates on dates, kits, banners and rewards. Separate what a preview actually confirms from expectations about what it might reveal.

Reassess as official information arrives. Compare confirmed characters with what your roster needs and keep your reserve aligned with that decision.
