HSR Apocalyptic Shadow 4.3 — Gale of Forgetting Complete Walkthrough

Honkai: Star Rail's Version 4.3 Apocalyptic Shadow cycle "Gale of Forgetting" is live — and with Phase 2 banner just opening on June 24 bringing back Phainon and Cyrene as reruns, Trailblazers now have direct access to two of the strongest characters for clearing this cycle's full 7,500+ score ceiling. Three bosses across three nodes (with Starward Mode adding the third), 800 base Stellar Jades plus 100 bonus from Starward, and team compositions that finally make Physical, Quantum, and Elation specialists shine. This is the complete walkthrough for the current Apocalyptic Shadow cycle.

🌑 Apocalyptic Shadow Gale of Forgetting Overview

The current Apocalyptic Shadow cycle introduces a new Starward Mode third boss (Flame Reaver) alongside the two main nodes. For Trailblazers chasing full Stellar Jade rewards, this is the most lucrative Apocalyptic Shadow rotation since the mode debuted.

Rewards Structure:

• Total Stellar Jades: 800 (base) + 100 (Starward Mode) = 900 Stellar Jades
• Score Threshold per Boss: 3,400 points required for full rewards (up from 3,300 in previous cycles)
• Top-Tier Clear Target: 7,500+ total score (rewards roster optimization with bragging rights)
• Additional Rewards: 100x Jade Feather, 20,000x Credit from Starward Mode
• Phase Duration: Resets every 6 weeks on Monday 04:00 server time

For complete Version 4.3 endgame mode context across Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow including Starward Mode integration, see our HSR 4.3 Starward Mode Master Guide.

👹 Three Boss Encounters

Node 1: Ichor Memosprite: Judge of Oblivion

• Element Weaknesses: Physical, Fire, Imaginary
• Toughness Bars: 8 bars
• Battle Mechanic: At battle start, splits into 5 Ichor memosprite mobs with damage reduction based on enemy count
• Phase Transition: Killing all 5 mobs deals 3 Toughness bars to the boss, forcing reappearance
• Phase 2: Same mechanics, but mobs have shared HP — AoE pressure is essential
• Strategy: Burn the 5 mobs immediately; AoE > single-target for this node

Node 2: Cocolia (Returning Boss)

• Element Weaknesses: Multiple depending on stage
• Battle Mechanic: Cocolia's signature ice phase shifts; armor breaks reward burst windows
• Strategy: Standard burst-damage approach; phase advance with consistent toughness pressure

Node 3: Flame Reaver (Starward Mode)

• Element Weaknesses: Quantum, Ice
• Battle Mechanic: Boss summons mobs that empower it; killing the purple aura enhanced mob first prevents absorption
• 5 Mobs Always Present: AoE characters excel here
• Phase 2: Tankier mobs with shared HP; need higher AoE pressure
• Strategy: Prioritize enhanced (purple aura) mob → kill all summons → break the boss

🎯 Node Buffs (Choose Wisely)

Each Apocalyptic Shadow node offers buff selection that significantly impacts team performance:

Comic Relief Buff (Node 1 / Judge):

• When an ally deals Elation damage, targets are Vulnerable for 2 turns
• Best for: Sparxie, Evanescia, Aha-based teams
• Synergy: Elation path Main DPS with consistent damage application

Armed Up Buff (Node 2 / Cocolia):

• Physical-themed buff for Phainon's hypercarry team
• Best for: Phainon-centric compositions
• Synergy: Cyrene's enabling kit + Phainon's Physical scaling

Brand of Anamnesis Buff (Node 3 / Flame Reaver Starward):

• Quantum/Ice damage amplification
• Best for: Castorice team, Remembrance compositions
• Synergy: Flame Reaver's Quantum/Ice weakness exploitation

Universal Buff Effects:

• Break DMG taken +10% for all enemies
• Breaking enemy Weakness grants partywide +15% SPD for 2 turns (Firefly-style scaling)

👥 Best Teams for Node 1 (Judge of Oblivion)

Team #1: Phainon Hypercarry (PREMIUM — BiS for this cycle)

• Phainon (Main DPS — Physical exploitation)
• Cyrene (Sub-DPS / enabler — Phase 2 rerun synergy)
• Sunday (Harmony amplifier)
• Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae (DHIL) / Permansor Terrae (sustain or sub-DPS)

This composition exploits Judge of Oblivion's Physical weakness. Phainon's E2S1 setup is the gold standard, but E0S1 still clears reliably with proper rotation. Cyrene's Phase 2 rerun (banner just opened!) makes this team accessible NOW for Trailblazers who didn't have her before.

For complete Phainon optimization, see our Phainon Build Guide.

Team #2: Elation Comic Relief Carry

• Evanescia (Elation Main DPS)
• Huohuo (Energy regen sustain)
• Robin (Harmony amplifier)
• Sparxie (Elation Sub-DPS)

Comic Relief buff makes Elation damage apply 2-turn Vulnerability — perfect for Evanescia's Certified Bangers accumulation. Huohuo's energy regen enables more Ultimate uptime, multiplying Vulnerability application frequency.

Team #3: Silver Wolf Dual DPS (Alternative)

• Silver Wolf LV.999 (Quantum Main DPS)
• Sparxie (Elation Sub-DPS)
• Yao Guang (Follow-Up amplifier)
• HuoHuo (Sustain)

For Trailblazers without Evanescia, this composition exploits both Elation buff and dual-DPS damage layering. Silver Wolf's debuffs amplify Sparxie's damage windows.

👥 Best Teams for Node 2 (Cocolia)

Team #1: Phainon Armed Up Exploitation (PREMIUM)

• Phainon (Main DPS)
• Cerydra (Buffer)
• Cyrene (Enabler)
• Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae (Permansor Terrae) (Sustain)

This composition perfectly exploits the Armed Up Physical buff. Cocolia's vulnerability windows align with Phainon's burst phases — Cerydra's enabling kit accelerates damage stack accumulation.

Team #2: Erudition AoE Cleave

• The Herta (Erudition Main DPS)
• Anaxa (Erudition Sub-DPS)
• Tribbie (Harmony amplifier)
• Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae (Sustain)

Erudition path buffs grant flat +25% All-Type RES PEN, making this composition's damage scaling enormous against Cocolia's varied weakness types.

👥 Best Teams for Node 3 (Flame Reaver — Starward Mode)

Team #1: Castorice Remembrance (BiS for Starward)

• Castorice (Quantum Main DPS)
• Evernight (Ice Sub-DPS)
• Cyrene (Phase 2 rerun — Remembrance buffer)
• Hyacine (Remembrance sustain)

This is the consensus best Starward Mode team for Trailblazers with the Remembrance path investment. Brand of Anamnesis buff combined with Flame Reaver's Quantum/Ice weakness creates massive damage windows. Cyrene's Phase 2 rerun unlocks this team for Trailblazers without her before.

Team #2: DoT Alternative

• Kafka (Lightning DoT carry)
• Black Swan (Wind DoT carry)
• Hysilens (Physical DoT specialist)
• Huohuo or Lingsha (Sustain)

For Trailblazers without the full Remembrance roster, DoT teams scale exceptionally well in current buff configuration. Tarsus Infection buff (when available) provides additional Energy regen and 40% DoT RES Ignore.

Team #3: Archer Single-Target Specialist

• Archer (Single-target Main DPS)
• Rin Tohsaka or Eidolon investment (additional damage)
• Harmony amplifier
• Sustain

Archer struggles with the 5-mob structure of Flame Reaver fights at lower investment. E2+ Archer or paired with the upcoming Rin Tohsaka (Version 4.4 Fate Collab Part 2) makes this composition viable.

📊 Score Optimization Tips

To push past the 6,600 baseline toward 7,500+ ceiling clears:

• SPD breakpoints matter most — 134+ SPD on supports allows additional action cycles
• Action Value (AV) conservation — Every wasted turn costs score significantly
• DDD (Dance Dance Dance) or Robin action advances — Partywide AV manipulation
• Ruan Mei's Break Efficiency — Critical for cycle-efficient teams
• Energy Regeneration stacking — Tight Ultimate cycling = more burst windows
• Phase transition timing — Don't waste Ultimates during low-Toughness windows
• Buff selection per node — Match buff to team strengths, not generic picks

🎯 Phase 2 Banner Synergy with Current Cycle

The Phase 2 banner opening June 24 brings Phainon and Cyrene reruns — both directly powerful in the current AS cycle.

Phainon for Apocalyptic Shadow:

• Direct counter to Judge of Oblivion (Physical weakness)
• Armed Up buff exploitation on Node 2 (Cocolia)
• Hypercarry kit scales independently of team buffs

Cyrene for Apocalyptic Shadow:

• Enabler for Phainon hypercarry teams
• Remembrance path inclusion for Brand of Anamnesis buff exploitation
• Essential for Castorice Remembrance team on Node 3

For complete pull priority guidance between Phainon and Cyrene this Phase 2, see our Phainon vs Cyrene Pull Analysis.

💡 F2P / Budget Strategies

For Trailblazers without Phainon, Cyrene, or Castorice, the cycle is still clearable at full reward threshold with proper planning:

Budget Composition #1: Sparxie + Yao Guang Elation

• Sparxie / Yao Guang / Trailblazer (Elation) / HuoHuo
• Cocolia node accessible substitute for Phainon team

Budget Composition #2: Ashveil + Tribbie

• Ashveil / Tribbie / Flexible Support / Flexible Sustain
• Works in either Node 1 or Node 2 depending on weakness exploitation

Budget Composition #3: DoT Pure F2P

• Kafka / Black Swan / Hysilens / Flexible Sustain
• Lower ceiling but reliable Stellar Jade collection

F2P Trailblazers should target 6,600-point clears (full Stellar Jade reward) rather than pushing 7,500+ unless their roster justifies the optimization grind. The 800 base + 100 Starward = 900 total Jades is the priority; bragging-rights scores require specific character investment.

📈 Cycle Resource Investment Priority

For Trailblazers building out AS-ready rosters across upcoming cycles:

1. Phainon E0S1 — Cycle-defining Physical hypercarry (Phase 2 rerun NOW)
2. Cyrene — Universal enabler / Remembrance member (Phase 2 rerun NOW)
3. Mortenax Blade S1 — Strong for Fire/Nihility teams across all modes
4. Castorice + Remembrance core — Long-term Starward Mode investment
5. Robin or Sunday — Universal Harmony support (every team needs one)
6. Huohuo or Lingsha — Universal sustain options

For Mortenax Blade optimization, see our Mortenax Blade BiS Build.

🏆 Cycle Milestones to Hit

• ✅ 6,600 score total — Full Stellar Jade rewards (800 base)
• ✅ 3,400+ per boss — Standard ascending clear
• ✅ Complete Starward Mode — +100 Stellar Jade bonus
• ✅ 7,500+ score — Top-tier clear (community ceiling testing)
• ✅ Maxed Insignia rewards — Additional Jade Feathers for Self Modeling Resins

💡 Endgame Mode Tips

• AV manipulation is everything — SPD buffs, action advances, and partywide tempo matter more than raw damage
• Always prioritize enhanced mobs first — Purple aura mobs in Flame Reaver fight; armor breakers in Judge fight
• Don't brute-force armor mechanics — Skill Point spending + Glory stacks > raw damage
• Phase transitions matter — Don't waste Ultimates during armor-active phases
• Buff selection per team — Comic Relief, Armed Up, Brand of Anamnesis each suit different team archetypes
• Energy Regen stacking — Tight Ultimate cycles = higher damage windows = higher scores
• Take advantage of Phase 2 reruns NOW — Phainon and Cyrene make this cycle significantly easier to optimize
• Watch community testing in first 2 weeks of Phase 2 — Roster availability shifts may reveal new optimal compositions

📅 Upcoming Cycle Outlook

The current Gale of Forgetting cycle will rotate out after approximately 6 weeks. Version 4.4 (expected mid-late July 2026) launches with the Fate Collab Part 2 featuring Himeko Nova, Rin Tohsaka, free Gilgamesh, and Archer — meaning future Apocalyptic Shadow cycles will likely shift to accommodate Quantum and Imaginary element exploitation.

Trailblazers saving resources for 4.4 should still clear current AS for the 900 Stellar Jades — every Jade compounds toward the Fate Collab pull window.
