Guardian Tales Is Changing Hands: Transfer or Lose Your Account
By Rivan Wi 2 September 2026, 20:00 WIB
Guardian Tales moves from Kakao Games to KONG STUDIOS on 27 October 2026, and the handover requires you to opt in. Accounts that don't submit a transfer request are deleted during that day's maintenance.
The request window is open now — 1 September to 27 October, 04:59 UTC. Agreeing takes about a minute and pays you three selection boxes for doing it.
There's also one detail in the procedure that can cost you your account even if you do everything else right. It's the transfer code, and it's covered below.
The dates
- Service transfer date: 27 October 2026 (Tue)
- Transfer request period: 1 September – 27 October 2026, 04:59 UTC
- Deletion: accounts without a submitted request are deleted during the 27 October maintenance
The notice states the schedule is subject to change depending on the developer's circumstances, so verify in-game rather than working from a date you read anywhere — including here.
How to submit the request
The process runs entirely in-game:
- Log in during the request period. A banner asking for your consent to the service transfer appears in the Lobby.
- Tap the banner to open the service transfer information page, then tap [Start].
- Review the details and tap [Agree] to complete the request.
- Your consent reward arrives in your Mailbox immediately — a Unique Hero Selection Box ×1, an Exclusive Equipment Selection Box ×1, and an Epic Accessory Box ×1.
- A transfer code and QR code are issued. Save the QR code as a screenshot or email it to yourself.
If you don't want to transfer, you tap [Close] instead — but understand that this is the path to deletion.
The transfer code is the part that catches people
This is the single most important line in the entire notice, and it's easy to skim past.
You need your transfer code or QR code the first time you log in after 27 October. The code cannot be reissued.
Not "contact support and we'll sort it." It cannot be reissued. Without it, you cannot log into your existing account.
You can view your issued code through the same Lobby banner at any point during the request period — but once the transfer completes, that access is gone. So the window to retrieve a code you forgot to save closes on the same day you'd discover you needed it.
Save it in more than one place. Screenshot the QR code, email it to yourself, and write the transfer code down somewhere that isn't the device running the game. This is a five-minute task protecting years of progress.
Kakao Login is ending
After the transfer, Kakao Login will no longer be available. Accounts link through Google, Apple, or a transfer code instead.
All other game features continue as before, and updates carry on as normal.
Guest accounts can transfer too, retaining their data through the issued QR code. KONG STUDIOS recommends that guest players link to Google or Apple after the transfer to prevent account loss — sound advice, since a guest account whose only key is an unreissuable code is about as fragile as an account gets.
KakaoTalk game data will not be transferred.
Clear your Manage Mailbox before the 27th
A quieter deadline sits inside the main one.
Mail in the [Manage] Mailbox will be deleted after the service transfer. Anything sitting there unclaimed is gone on the 27th.
The [General] Mailbox remains available, and after the transfer all rewards — including daily push rewards — will be delivered there instead, since the [Manage] Mailbox is being retired.
Players who let compensation mail and event rewards pile up unclaimed should empty that mailbox now rather than in late October.
Account restrictions can block you entirely
Worth knowing if it applies to you: existing account restrictions carry over unchanged, and restriction history isn't wiped by the change of operator.
More seriously, the notice states that if an active restriction prevents you from submitting a transfer request, support will be unable to assist with it. A restricted account that can't file a request is on the deletion path with no appeal route through this process.
If you're currently restricted, resolve it well before the deadline.
What this isn't
Two clarifications from the notice worth stating plainly, because both have circulated as rumour:
Guardian Tales is not shutting down. Only the service provider changes. Content updates continue as usual, and the operations team is unchanged.
No refunds are being issued for the transfer. Because the service continues without interruption, the handover itself isn't grounds for a refund. Purchases otherwise eligible for cancellation or refund still go through Customer Support as before.
If you agree to the transfer, subscription products, Guardian Passes and Festival Passes all carry over after the 27 October maintenance.
Why the developer is taking over
Guardian Tales was built by KONG STUDIOS and published by Kakao Games across Korea, Asia, North America, South America, Europe and Oceania — while KONG STUDIOS has run the Japanese service itself.
The stated reasoning is straightforward: KONG STUDIOS has handled localisation, updates and operations for the Japanese server, and taking over global publishing lets them apply that experience everywhere.
This is a developer consolidating publishing rather than an unfamiliar operator inheriting a game, which is a meaningfully better situation than most service transfers.
What's still unanswered
- Rankings, Guilds and Friends. Accounts that don't transfer won't be removed from rankings or Guilds immediately, and a separate notice on how all three will be handled is promised before the transfer.
- Whether the Asia service follows the same schedule. The notice referenced here comes from the Global (EU/NA/OC/LA) desk.
- What happens to purchase histories and support tickets raised with Kakao Games before the handover.
One more note: withdrawing consent is possible through Customer Support, but your consent reward will be reclaimed if you do.
Your checklist
- Log in and submit the transfer request today. The window closes 27 October, 04:59 UTC.
- Save the transfer code and QR code in at least two places. It cannot be reissued.
- Claim everything in your [Manage] Mailbox. It's deleted on the 27th.
- Check whether you're on Kakao Login. That route is ending.
- Bind to Google or Apple once available — especially if you're playing on a guest account.
- Resolve any account restriction now. A restriction that blocks your request is not something support can work around.
- Screenshot your roster, currencies and pass status before the maintenance, so you have evidence of your account state if anything goes wrong.
Protecting what's on the account
An account carrying years of limited Heroes, exclusive equipment and collab exclusives is worth more than the sum of its pulls, and a transition like this is exactly where a poorly secured one becomes unrecoverable. Browse verified Guardian Tales accounts if you want binding and transfer status confirmed before anything changes hands, book Guardian Tales hourly services to keep progression moving through the transition, or push raids and event content through Guardian Tales boosting before 27 October.
