Fortnite Crash Bandicoot & Spyro Revealed: Skins, Sidekick & What We Know

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon are officially joining Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, and Epic has now shown enough of both cosmetics to make their roles clear.

The important distinction is simple: Crash is coming as a playable Outfit, while Spyro is joining as a Sidekick rather than a character skin. Crash also has a retro low-poly alternate style inspired by his original PlayStation-era appearance.

What Epic has not confirmed yet is just as important. There is currently no official Item Shop date, V-Bucks price, complete bundle breakdown, or confirmed tournament route for either character.

So if you're planning your V-Bucks around Fortnite's packed Gaming Legends season, here's what is actually confirmed and what still needs an announcement.

Crash Bandicoot Is a Full Fortnite Outfit

Crash appeared in the wider Fortnite Override reveal before Epic gave players a closer look at his cosmetic.

The newer showcase confirms that Crash is being adapted into Fortnite as a full playable Outfit, rather than a Sidekick or simple Back Bling.

His main design translates Crash's familiar orange fur, oversized shoes and cartoon proportions into Fortnite's character system while keeping him recognizable next to the rest of Override's Gaming Legends lineup.

The standout addition is his alternate presentation.

Crash Has a Retro Low-Poly Style

Crash can switch away from his modern Fortnite interpretation into a deliberately blockier retro low-poly style.

It is clearly built around the visual language of Crash's earliest PlayStation games: simplified geometry, sharper shapes and the kind of exaggerated low-detail model associated with the original era.

That makes the alternate style more than a simple recolor.

Players effectively get two very different presentations of Crash:

• a cleaner modern interpretation;
• a deliberately retro version based on his classic appearance.

Epic has not yet published the complete Locker description or final bundle listing, so it is better to treat any additional accessory names circulating before the Shop release as unconfirmed.

Spyro Is a Sidekick, Not an Outfit

Spyro is being handled differently.

Instead of stretching the four-legged dragon into Fortnite's humanoid Outfit rig, Epic is introducing Spyro the Dragon as a Sidekick.

Sidekicks are cosmetic companions that can accompany your character. They are not additional combat units and do not provide the gameplay powers associated with systems such as Sprites.

That distinction matters if you were hoping to actually play as Spyro.

Crash = playable Outfit.
Spyro = companion Sidekick.

Epic's main Override announcement had already confirmed Spyro would arrive during the season in his iconic legacy look, while the later reveal gave players a much clearer view of how the dragon appears in-game.

The showcase also displayed an alternate blue appearance for Spyro, although Epic has not yet published the full cosmetic listing or official naming for every available style.

Crash and Spyro Are Item Shop Content

Neither Crash nor Spyro is part of the main Override Battle Pass track.

Epic's official Chapter 7 Season 4 announcement places Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon among the new items and Outfits arriving in the Shop throughout the season, alongside collaborations such as Kingdom Hearts, Persona 5 Royal, Mega Man and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

That means players should currently plan around an Item Shop release, not Battle Pass progression.

When Do Crash and Spyro Release?

This is the biggest unanswered question.

As of the current reveal, Epic has not announced an exact Item Shop release date for Crash Bandicoot or Spyro.

That means dates circulating around late August should not be treated as final until one of the following happens:

• Epic posts an official release announcement;
• the cosmetics appear in the Item Shop;
• an official tournament page specifically lists them as rewards;
• Fortnite publishes the full cosmetic set and availability window.

The wider Override announcement only promises that the collaborations will arrive throughout the season.

So there is no reason to treat a particular August date as guaranteed yet.

How Much Will Crash and Spyro Cost?

No official V-Bucks prices have been announced.

We also do not yet have a fully confirmed store structure showing whether:

• Crash will be sold alone;
• Crash will have a larger bundle;
• Spyro will be bundled with Crash;
• Spyro will be available separately;
• additional accessories will have individual prices.

Fortnite Gaming Legends cosmetics frequently offer both individual items and bundles, but previous collaborations are not enough to predict the exact Crash and Spyro pricing.

If you're specifically saving V-Bucks for them, the safest move is simply to keep enough currency available until Epic publishes the actual Shop listing.

Can You Unlock Crash for Free?

There has also been discussion around a possible competitive unlock route.

For now, do not treat that as confirmed.

Unless Epic publishes an official tournament page that explicitly lists Crash, Spyro or their related cosmetics as rewards, players should assume the confirmed acquisition route is the Item Shop.

That distinction matters because Fortnite frequently runs cosmetic Cups, making an unconfirmed tournament sound believable even when no official reward details exist yet.

If a Crash-related Cup is formally announced, it would justify a separate guide covering:

• tournament date;
• eligible regions;
• scoring system;
• number of matches;
• placement threshold;
• cosmetic rewards.

Until then, there is nothing players need to register for.

Crash and Spyro Fit Override's Gaming Legends Theme

Chapter 7 Season 4 is unusually dense with gaming crossovers.

Sonic already headlines the Battle Pass, while other gaming franchises are being spread across gameplay items and future Shop releases.

Crash and Spyro take the opposite route.

There is currently no confirmed Crash or Spyro Battle Royale weapon or gameplay mechanic attached to this reveal. Their confirmed value is cosmetic.

That is worth keeping separate from the rest of Override, because the season mixes several different crossover types:

• playable Outfits;
• Sidekicks;
• Battle Pass characters;
• Item Shop drops;
• crossover weapons;
• map content.

Seeing a character in Override promotional material does not automatically mean they will function the same way as Sonic or Mega Man.

Should You Save V-Bucks for Crash and Spyro?

That depends mainly on which part of the collaboration you actually want.

Save for Crash if:

• you want a playable Crash Bandicoot Outfit;
• the retro low-poly style is the main appeal;
• Crash is higher priority than the other Gaming Legends Shop releases this season;
• you're comfortable waiting for the official price before buying other cosmetics.

Spyro may be the better target if:

• you already use Sidekicks regularly;
• you specifically want Spyro accompanying another Outfit;
• you prefer companion cosmetics over another character skin.

You can wait if:

• you were expecting Spyro to be playable;
• you're waiting for Persona, Kingdom Hearts or another Override collaboration;
• you need the final bundle price before deciding;
• you're hoping for a tournament unlock that Epic has not yet confirmed.

There is no gameplay advantage attached to owning either cosmetic, so this is entirely a preference and V-Bucks budgeting decision.

What We Still Need Epic to Confirm

The next announcement needs to answer four things:

1. Release date
When Crash and Spyro actually enter the Item Shop.

2. Pricing
Individual prices and any discounted bundle.

3. Full cosmetic set
The final list of Back Blings, Pickaxes, Emotes, Wraps or other items accompanying Crash and Spyro.

4. Alternate acquisition methods
Whether any part of the set can be earned through a Cup, quest or other event.

Until those details arrive, the safest summary is straightforward: Crash Bandicoot is a confirmed Fortnite Outfit with a retro alternate style, Spyro is a confirmed Sidekick, and both are coming to the Item Shop during Chapter 7 Season 4.
