DB Legends New LEGEND Super Saiyan God SS Kaioken Goku: Everything Announced
By Michael Pras 12 August 2026, 10:50 WIB
Bandai Namco published the ability sheet for LEGEND Super Saiyan God SS Kaioken Goku on 11 August 2026, and he's built around a mechanic that pulls in two directions at once. His Unique Gauge is a Time Type gauge that starts at 90% charge — but spending it and keeping it full give you completely different rewards. Consume 25% on a Strike or Blast and you get a large damage increase plus Combo-Breaking nullification. Leave it full and you get +50% Critical Rate, -5 to all Arts costs, and -3 sub counts. You can't have both at the same time, and knowing which you want in a given moment is most of playing him well. Here's the full breakdown. Note that Bandai Namco lists this content as still under development and subject to change.
New unit, not a new character
Worth clearing up before anything else, because searching this name returns two different things.
Super Saiyan God SS Kaioken Goku already exists in Dragon Ball Legends. An ULTRA version (DBL45-01U) released back in March 2022 for the 60 Million User Campaign, built around Kaioken God Kamehameha as its Special and 20x Kaioken God Kamehameha as its Ultimate. Earlier still, Super Saiyan God SS Goku (DBL15-07S) could transform into the x10 Kaio-ken state through his Main Ability.
This is a different unit entirely. The LEGEND card announced on 11 August is a separate summon with its own kit, its own collection number, and a completely new mechanic in the Unique Gauge — plus a LEGEND Action, which the ULTRA version doesn't have.
The practical consequence: owning the ULTRA does not mean you own this one. They occupy separate slots in your box, they're pulled separately, and they play nothing alike. If you're reading a wiki page that describes Kaioken God Kamehameha as the Special, you're looking at the 2022 card rather than this one.
So the accurate framing is a new LEGEND unit of an existing character — which is how most Dragon Ball Legends releases work, since the roster draws from a fixed cast of forms.
Tags and Z Ability
Tags: Saiyan, Son Family, God Ki, Super Saiyan God SS, Universe Rep Episode: Universe Survival Saga (S)
His Z Ability scales across Universe Rep, God Ki and Saiyan tags, reaching +38% base Strike Attack and Defense at Z Ability III for those tags, plus +18% base Blast Attack for Universe Rep specifically.
That's a broad tag spread, which matters even for players who don't pull him — a maxed Z Ability benefits a large slice of the roster.
The Unique Gauge: the core decision
This is the mechanic everything else routes through.
How it charges:
- Starts battle at 90%
- Charges while on the battlefield
- Charges rapidly while on standby
- +50% instantly when your health drops below 50%
- Charge rate +50% each time an ally is defeated, stacking to a maximum of +100%
How it's consumed:
- 25% on Strike, Blast or Special Move Arts, when the gauge is at 25% or higher
- Entirely on Ultimate Arts
What a full gauge gives you:
- Critical Rate +50% (20 counts)
- Damage Guard +20% (20 counts)
- All Arts costs -5 (20 counts)
- Sub counts -3
What spending it gives you:
- Strike/Blast with 25%+ gauge: damage +50% for 10 counts, nullify Combo-Breaking Actions, nullify Attribute Downgrades
- Special Move with 25%+ gauge: +50% Special Move damage on top of the base +30%, ally sub counts -3, enemy sub counts +3 on switch
- Ultimate with a full gauge: an extra +50% Ultimate damage and nullified Element disadvantages, plus ally sub counts -10
The tension is real. A full gauge is a passive state that improves everything you do; spending it converts that state into burst. The best players will hold the full-gauge buffs through a defensive stretch, then dump the gauge into an Ultimate when the kill is available.
Starter Ability: he wants to open
His Starter Ability is unusually loaded, and every effect is uncancellable:
- Damage +350%
- Damage Guard +320%
- Ki Recovery +60%
- Draw Speed +1
- Endurance (50% recovery)
Combined with the 90% opening gauge, that's a unit designed to start the battle rather than wait — which sits interestingly against a gauge that charges rapidly on standby. Both play patterns are supported, and which you use depends on your team.
Unique Ability: a comeback engine
This is where his identity lives. The kit gets stronger as your team falls apart.
On entering the battlefield: draw up to 2 cards if your hand has 3 or fewer, health +15%, Ki +40, and nullified Element disadvantage on damage received for 5 counts.
On Strike or Blast use with 25%+ gauge: damage +50% for 10 counts, one-time Combo-Breaking nullification for 5 counts (resetting on switch or Area Change), and nullified Attribute Downgrades.
When hit by enemy Arts: all enemy Arts costs +10 for 5 counts.
At 50% health or lower, once, resetting when an ally is defeated:
- Health +30%
- Unique Gauge +50%
- Destroy the entire enemy hand
- All enemy sub counts +2
When an ally is defeated: Unique Gauge charge rate +50% (uncancellable) and enemy Draw Speed -2 for 10 counts, once.
When the enemy activates a Special Move, Ultimate, Awakened Arts or Rising Rush: ally sub counts -5 and enemy Buff Effects cancelled, up to 3 times.
Read together: he's an anchor. Low health, dead allies and enemy Ultimates all feed him. Destroying the entire enemy hand at 50% health is the standout — it's a full reset of the opponent's offence at exactly the moment you'd normally be losing.
Arts breakdown
Strike and Blast (Impact): both reduce all enemy Health Restoration by 20% for 5 counts on activation. His Strike also has armor, letting him charge through enemy Blast Arts.
Special Arts: draws up to 2 cards if your hand has 3 or fewer, health +10%, Ki +40, Unique Gauge +25%, damage +30% for 15 counts, and nullifies Combo-Breaking Actions for 5 counts. This is his anti-Autocounter tool and a gauge top-up in one card.
Special Move (Massive Impact): +30% Special Move damage for 3 counts on activation, rising to a further +50% uncancellable if the gauge is at 25% or more, plus sub-count manipulation both ways. On hit, destroys 3 enemy cards.
Ultimate (Supreme Impact): +50% Ultimate damage, nullifies Endurance, cancels enemy Buff Effects. With a full gauge, add another +50% and nullified Element disadvantages, plus ally sub counts -10.
Main Ability (requires 25 timer counts): destroy 1 card and draw Ultimate Arts next, health +30%, Ki +50, Unique Gauge +100%, and cancel your own Attribute Downgrades and Abnormal Conditions.
That Main Ability is the setup for his strongest sequence — full gauge into a guaranteed Ultimate, with the Element-disadvantage nullification attached.
LEGEND Action (Low Area): destroys 1 card and draws Special Move Arts next, once per ally defeat cycle, plus Ki +40 and Unique Gauge +25%.
Special Cover Change against Strike Arts.
How to actually play him
- Decide your gauge state before you commit. Full gauge is a defensive-offensive stance with crit and cost reduction; spending is burst. Flip-flopping wastes both.
- Don't waste the Main Ability early. +100% gauge plus a drawn Ultimate is his win condition, not a heal button.
- Let the 50% health threshold trigger deliberately. Destroying the enemy's entire hand is worth more when they have cards worth destroying.
- Consider standby placement. Rapid off-field charging means he can enter with a full gauge and immediately access the crit and cost buffs.
- Element disadvantage stops being a hard wall with a full-gauge Ultimate, which widens where you can bring him.
Who he fits
His tag spread — Universe Rep, God Ki, Saiyan, Son Family, Super Saiyan God SS — makes him flexible across several established teams rather than locked to one.
The honest caveat: the sheet is a preview, and Bandai Namco states it may change before release. No release date or banner details were published alongside it, so treat the numbers as the intended design rather than the final live values, and check in-game once he's added.
Build the box that fields him
A LEGEND-rarity unit performs best on a roster that already has the tag support and Z Ability depth to back him — and that depth is measured in years of pulls.
