Bleach: Brave Souls has officially revealed two new Reiokyu (Thousand-Year Blood War) units through its latest official showcase: Rukia Kuchiki and Byakuya Kuchiki. Both will be part of the "Thousand-Year Blood War Glory Summons: Virtuous" banner, and each is built around a status ailment gimmick that complements the other when paired on the same team.
Rukia Kuchiki (Thousand-Year Blood War / Reiokyu Version)
This version of Rukia is a Melee Strong Attack character with the Power (Red) element, built primarily around inflicting Freeze and dealing bonus damage to frozen enemies, especially Quincy-type foes.
Killer & Affiliation:
- Quincy Killer+
Soul Trait & Link:
- Soul Trait: Damage to Frozen Enemies +40%
- Slot Link 1 (EX Skills Share): Shares EX Strong Attack Recharge Time -12% and EX Damage to Frozen Enemies +35% with the party's main character
Status Ailment & Attacks:
- Her entire attack chain can inflict Freeze+
- Greater Status Ailment Chance against Quincies +20%
- Status Ailment Spiritual Pressure Boost +90% (active once an enemy is already afflicted with a status ailment)
- Total damage increase against frozen enemies can reach +100% when combining her Soul Trait and skills, plus an extra +35% from her EX Skill link
Mechanics & Survivability:
- Has an EX Move consisting of a sustained circular attack around herself
- Weaken Resistance 200%, making her immune to Weaken+ effects
- Poise Break, except in Brave Battles
Skill Kit:
- Normal Attack: a 4-hit melee combo
- Strong Attack 1: circles around enemies before striking forward
- Strong Attack 2 (Superior SA): gathers enemies in before dealing area damage around herself
- Strong Attack 3: a full-screen area attack
- Special Move: Conquering Strike
With Quincy Killer+ paired with a large damage bonus against frozen enemies, this version of Rukia is projected to be especially strong in Guild Quests and Limit Breaker Quests that apply Quincy Killer rules alongside increased Melee Damage.
Byakuya Kuchiki (Thousand-Year Blood War / Reiokyu Version)
Byakuya arrives as a Melee Strong Attack character with the Technique (Green) element, taking on a dual role as both a damage dealer and a team support unit through his Enemies Defeated Bonus mechanic.
Killer & Affiliation:
- Stern Ritter Killer+ (SR Killer+)
Soul Trait & Link:
- Dual Soul Trait: Damage to Lacerated Enemies +40% and Strong Attack Recharge Time -12%
- Slot Link 1 (EX Skills Share): Shares EX Berserker +30% with the party's main character
Status Ailment & Attacks:
- His entire attack chain can inflict Lacerate+
- Greater Status Ailment Chance against Quincies +20%
- Status Ailment Spiritual Pressure Boost +90%
- Total damage increase against Lacerated enemies can reach +100%
Enemies Defeated Bonus (Party Buff):
- Defeat 10 enemies: restores 20% stamina to the entire party
- Defeat 20 enemies: speeds up the entire party's Strong Attack cooldown by 10%
This mechanic makes Byakuya more than just a solo damage dealer, his value scales up as a match progresses, especially in stages with plenty of smaller enemies that can be cleared quickly.
Mechanics & Survivability:
- Paralysis Resistance 200%, immune to Paralysis+ effects
- Poise Break, except in Brave Battles
Skill Kit:
- Normal Attack: a 4-hit melee slash combo
- Strong Attack 1: a straight forward strike
- Strong Attack 2: gathers enemies in and summons a Major Vortex around him
- Strong Attack 3: circles around enemies before striking forward
- Special Move: a large-scale area slash
Thanks to Stern Ritter Killer+ and his party-wide bonus, this version of Byakuya is expected to be effective in Guild Quests and Limit Breaker Quests that apply Stern Ritter Killer rules.
How the Two Work Together
Interestingly, both characters are built around different but complementary status ailments, Rukia with Freeze and Byakuya with Lacerate, while both share the same Status Ailment Spiritual Pressure Boost +90%. That means pairing both on the same team could potentially trigger reinforcing status ailment combinations, especially against enemies vulnerable to both effects at once.
What to Keep in Mind
Since both units arrive through a Glory Summons banner, which typically functions as a premium gacha pull, it's worth considering whether the modes you play most often (Guild Quests, Limit Breaker Quests) actually benefit from Quincy Killer or Stern Ritter Killer before spending summon currency, since both units' strength is fairly tightly tied to specific enemy types.
