War Thunder's New Naval Event Rewards a Free Battleship

War Thunder's Guardian of the Baltic Sea event went live on August 13, 2026 and runs through August 27, giving naval players a free shot at the Soviet battleship Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya. The event follows War Thunder's usual grind-for-a-free-vehicle format: no purchase is required, just enough time spent in Naval Battles to clear seven progress stages before the window closes.
Meet Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya
Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya is the fourth and final ship of the Sevastopol class, originally laid down before the First World War under the name Gangut. She spent decades out of active service before a 1925 refit and rename, then went on to defend Kronstadt and support the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad during the Second World War. In-game, she appears in her modernized postwar configuration with an upgraded anti-aircraft battery and radar fit. Gaijin describes her as a well-rounded Rank V battleship for the USSR with no major weaknesses — she trades favorably against cruisers and holds her own against other battleships thanks to accurate main-battery gunnery, with a tall superstructure that helps at long range but rewards players who manage their engagement distance carefully.
How to Earn the Ship
Progress is earned through mission points scored in Naval Battles, Rank III or above, in either Arcade or Realistic mode. Each of the seven stages requires 35,000 mission points, and the exact number of points you earn per match depends on the mode and the highest-rank vehicle you bring into battle — the in-game task description shows the current multiplier. Points only count once a battle ends, and rewards for a completed stage aren't automatic: you'll need to open your name menu in-game, go to Guardian of the Baltic Sea, and manually claim each one.
Rank I and II event vehicles from past events can also contribute mission points, as long as they carry that event's name on their stat card — useful if your naval fleet has a shallow top end.
Milestone Rewards Along the Way
Clearing each stage unlocks a reward, with the battleship itself arriving only after the final one:
- Stage 1 — a trophy with a random reward
- Stage 2 — the "Battleship Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya" decal
- Stage 3 — a trophy with a random reward
- Stage 4 — the "First Flag of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Fleet" ship flag
- Stage 5 — a trophy with a random reward
- Stage 6 — the "Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya" loading screen
- Stage 7 — a non-tradable coupon for Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya
There's also a separate reward chest in circulation during the event that can drop Silver Lions, Research Point boosters, Wagers, Orders, Universal Backups, a random camouflage, or a day of Premium Account time.
Falling Behind? You Can Buy In
Players who don't clear a stage before the event ends aren't locked out entirely. Unfinished stages can be purchased with Golden Eagles through August 31, and the closer you are to the mission point requirement, the cheaper it gets — Gaijin has built in steep discounts for players who nearly finished the grind naturally. At 85% progress toward a stage, the Golden Eagle price is cut in half; at 95%, it drops to a fifth of the base cost. That's worth keeping in mind if the event window is closing and you're a few battles short of a stage rather than starting from zero.
Don't Want the Ship? You Can Sell the Coupon
Not every player wants another battleship taking up hangar space, and War Thunder accounts for that too. Completing all seven stages nets a non-tradable coupon that activates Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya immediately, but players can also earn a separate "Upgrade for coupon" item by hitting 600,000 total mission points during the event window. That item converts the non-tradable coupon into a tradable one, which can then be listed on the Market once six days have passed since conversion. The Upgrade for coupon item itself expires on August 31 — after that, it disappears from your inventory if unused, along with the option to exchange it for War Bonds.
Grinding 35,000 mission points per stage across Naval Battles takes real hours in the queue, and that's before accounting for whatever nation and battle rating your fleet is actually built around — working through Silver Lion shortages and repair costs at higher ranks is the slow half of War Thunder.
