What has not been announced is almost everything else: the full car list, whether new modes are attached, how the cars are obtained, and whether any of it is free. Here is what is confirmed, why this collaboration was predictable, and what is worth doing before August 20.

The 86 is the car most closely tied to MF Ghost's identity, so its presence at the centre of the art is not a surprise. The GR Supra alongside it signals that the collaboration reaches beyond a single hero car into the wider MFG grid.

Why This Was Coming

MF Ghost is Shuichi Shigeno's sequel to Initial D, serialised in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine from 2017 to 2025 across 23 volumes. It is set in a near-future Japan where self-driving electric cars dominate public roads, while internal combustion engines survive through an underground-turned-mainstream racing circuit called MFG.

Racing Master already ran an Initial D collaboration earlier this year, in March, and that event's cars were rendered with licence plates accurate to the current anime — including MF Ghost's. In other words, the groundwork was laid months ago inside a previous event from the same author's universe.

The timing also lines up with the anime. Season three aired from January to March 2026, and a fourth and final season has been confirmed as in production. A collaboration between seasons keeps the property in front of players while the show is between broadcasts.

What Has Not Been Announced

This is where most coverage will start guessing, so it is worth being explicit about the gaps:

• The full car list. Two cars appear in the key art. Whether the event includes four, six, or more is unknown.
• How cars are obtained. Racing Master's previous collaboration included a free car alongside paid ones, but nothing confirms the same structure here.
• New modes. The Initial D event added themed gameplay modes. Whether MF Ghost gets equivalent content has not been stated.
• Livery, bodykit, and cosmetic details beyond what the art shows.
• Whether the event is global or regional, though the marketplace evidence suggests SEA servers are where most players will encounter it.

Treat any specific car list circulating before NetEase publishes one as speculation.

Collaboration Cars Hold Their Value
