PGR Rapid Pursuit: Free Boss Trials, No Roster Needed
By Rivan Wi 1 September 2026, 14:00 WIB
Rapid Pursuit is back in Punishing: Gray Raven as part of the Steering By Light patch, and it has a quality almost nothing else in the game shares: you don't need to own any of the characters to clear it.
The event hands you a designated roster of trial Constructs and points you at four bosses. Your account's Black Card history, your Omniframe collection, the memory sets you've spent months farming — none of it gates entry. That makes Rapid Pursuit one of the few pieces of endgame-flavoured content a new or returning Commandant can complete on day one.
Here's how it works and what you get for it.
The format
Rapid Pursuit's structure has stayed consistent across its previous runs:
- Four boss stages, each with four difficulty levels
- Stages unlock progressively over the event period rather than all at once
- Trial characters are provided to challenge the bosses
- Bounty missions attached to the stages award the actual rewards
The progressive unlock matters for planning. You can't sit down on the final weekend and clear everything, because the later stages won't have opened yet at the point you'd need to start. Rapid Pursuit rewards checking in across the event rather than one long session.
Why the trial characters change who this is for
Most boss-challenge content in gacha games is a wall. It asks for specific elements, built gear and a roster deep enough to answer whatever the encounter demands, which quietly excludes exactly the players who most need the rewards.
Rapid Pursuit inverts that. The trial roster is assigned, which means:
New players can clear it. If you started during Steering By Light and own three Constructs, you're not locked out. The characters you're handed are the characters everyone is handed.
Returning players don't need to rebuild first. Coming back after months away normally means a long re-investment period before you can touch difficult content. Here you can play the hard stages immediately.
Your skill is the variable, not your account. PGR's combat rewards knowing the 3-Ping system, dodge timing and QTE chaining. Rapid Pursuit tests that directly, without your gear standing in for execution.
There's a second benefit worth naming: it's free practice on characters you don't own. If you've been unsure whether to pull for a particular Construct, playing one in a trial roster is a considerably better test than watching footage of someone else using it.
The rewards
Across its runs, Rapid Pursuit has awarded Event Construct R&D Tickets, Trade Vouchers, Serum, collectibles and basic training materials.
The June 2026 run gives a sense of scale: Event Construct R&D Ticket ×500, Trade Voucher ×500, and the collectible [Bloodrust Medal], alongside training materials.
Serum is the quiet one. As PGR's stamina resource, it converts directly into farming runs you'd otherwise have to wait for — which is exactly what a new or returning account is short of.
This run's exclusive collectible is [A Blurry Bounty Notice?], and it's limited-time. Collectibles don't return once their event closes, so for anyone who cares about a complete collection, that's the piece with a genuine deadline attached.
Exact reward quantities for the current run haven't been published in the material available, so check the event page in-game for the specific figures on your server.
The deadline, and a server split worth catching
Rapid Pursuit runs inside the Steering By Light patch, and the patch itself ends on different days depending on where your account lives:
- EN servers: 23 September 2026, 23:00 (UTC)
- CN, TW, JP and KR servers: 24 September 2026
That's a one-day gap, and it's the kind of detail that costs people a final day of clears when they follow a guide written for a different region. If you're on EN, your last day is the 23rd.
Rapid Pursuit's own window sits inside that patch period but hasn't been published separately in the material available. Previous runs lasted roughly four weeks — the April run covered 21 April to 19 May, and the January run 6 January to 2 February. Check the event timer in-game rather than assuming it runs to the patch's final day.
What isn't published
- Rapid Pursuit's exact start and end dates within Steering By Light.
- The boss lineup for this run, beyond confirmation of new enemies.
- The trial character roster you'll be assigned.
- Exact reward quantities for this run's bounty missions.
How to approach it
Start early, not late. Progressive stage unlocks mean the content isn't all available at once, and leaving it until the patch's final week may mean the later stages have only just opened.
Play every difficulty you can clear. The bounty missions are tied to difficulty tiers, so higher clears are where the meaningful rewards sit.
Treat the trials as a test drive. If a Construct you've been considering appears in the roster, this is the cheapest possible evaluation — actual combat, on your own hands, for free.
Prioritise the collectible. [A Blurry Bounty Notice?] is limited-time and won't return. The training materials will come around again; the collectible won't.
Don't skip it because you're new. This is the rare event where being underbuilt genuinely doesn't matter, and the Serum and tickets it hands out are worth more to a small account than to a finished one.
After the trials end
Rapid Pursuit lets you borrow a roster for a fortnight; it doesn't leave you with one. The Constructs, memory sets and weapon resonance that carry an account through Steering By Light's harder content — and through the Date A Live V collaboration still to come — are the part that takes real time.
