PUBG Mobile One-Punch Man Collab: Will There Be a One-Hit KO?

PUBG Mobile has confirmed its One-Punch Man collaboration for 20 September, and the tagline is doing the obvious work: One Punch to Win.

Which raises the question everyone is actually asking. Is there a one-hit kill mechanic, or is this a skin pack with Saitama's face on it?

Nothing announced answers that yet. But One-Punch Man has done this twice before with other shooters, and both times the answer was yes.

The date matters more than it looks

Version 4.6 launches on 9 September. The One-Punch Man collaboration arrives on 20 September.

That's an eleven-day gap, and it's worth stating clearly because a lot of players will patch on the 9th expecting Saitama and find a vampire-themed mode instead. 4.6's headline content is Bloodline Awakening, an entirely separate limited-time event.

The timing does make sense against the wider calendar. Spider-Man: Brand New Day closes on 14 September, the Naruto Shippuden collaboration ends 15 September, and Season 31 finishes on the 11th. One-Punch Man slots in once the current crossovers have cleared rather than competing with them.

The precedent says mechanics, not just skins

Here's why the one-hit question is reasonable rather than wishful.

One-Punch Man has collaborated with two other shooters, and both added a gameplay mechanic built around the joke.

Blood Strike ran its One-Punch Man crossover through mid-2026 and included a Red Boxing Glove airdrop — a rare in-match pickup granting the ability to defeat enemies instantly with a single punch. That sat alongside the usual skins for Saitama, Genos, Terrible Tornado, Mumen Rider and Garou.

Fortnite did something comparable in its own crossover, adding an item that let players eliminate opponents with one punch.

The pattern is consistent because the source material demands it. One-Punch Man's entire premise is a hero so strong that fights end immediately. A crossover that sells Saitama cosmetics without letting anyone punch someone out of a match has adapted the character's appearance and ignored the character.

And PUBG Mobile itself has form here. The Spider-Man: Brand New Day collaboration, which ran from 30 July to 14 September, didn't stop at costumes. It added web-swinging traversal, turned a section of Erangel into movie-inspired locations, and shipped as a themed Classic Mode rather than a cosmetic bundle bolted onto the standard game.

That's the most relevant precedent of the three, because it's the same studio making the same kind of decision within the same year. PUBG Mobile's recent pattern is to build crossovers around a mechanic and decorate afterwards — and a One-Punch Man crossover has an unusually obvious mechanic available to it.

Based on both the franchise's history and PUBG Mobile's own recent approach, a gameplay mechanic is the reasonable expectation. It is still an expectation.

What a one-hit mechanic would mean for matches

Worth thinking through, because if it arrives it changes more than a novelty usually does.

Instant elimination removes the trade. PUBG Mobile fights are built on damage exchange — you peek, you take chip damage, you heal, you re-engage. A one-hit ability collapses that into a binary: you connect or you don't.

It rewards positioning over gunplay. Getting into punching range in a shooter means crossing open ground, which means the ability is only as good as your ability to approach unseen. That favours players who read rotations well rather than players with the best aim.

And it's most disruptive in the final circles, where players are boxed into small spaces with no room to disengage. Whether that's fun or infuriating depends entirely on how rare the pickup is — Blood Strike's version was a rare airdrop rather than a floor spawn, which is likely the balance answer.

None of this is confirmed for PUBG Mobile. It's what the mechanic would do if it exists.

What isn't announced

• Whether a one-hit or punch-based mechanic is included at all.
• Which characters appear beyond Saitama. Genos, Garou, Terrible Tornado and Mumen Rider have featured in other One-Punch Man shooter crossovers.
• The collaboration's end date.
• Whether a themed mode or map area is included, as with Spider-Man.
• Free versus paid reward routes, and which items sit behind Draws.
• Whether it ties to Version 4.6 or arrives with a later update.

That last point is genuinely open. Arriving eleven days after 4.6 could mean it's 4.6 content released on a delay, or that a smaller update carries it.

What to do before 20 September

Don't wait for it on 9 September. Version 4.6 brings Bloodline Awakening, not Saitama. They're separate events with separate dates.

Clear the collaborations that are closing. Spider-Man ends 14 September and Naruto Shippuden on the 15th. Whatever you haven't claimed from either goes with them.

Finish Season 31 before the 11th. Season rewards don't carry across the reset.

Bank UC rather than spending. With a new season, Version 4.6's content and an unannounced collaboration all landing within a fortnight, spending now means committing before you know what's on offer.
