Heartopia August 19 Update: Everything New and Echo of Ancients

Heartopia's next update arrives on 19 August (UTC-5), bringing Friendship Styling, a Selfie Mode, a Hot Air Balloon event on Whale Mountain and new Barber Shop furniture at Bob's. But the headline content isn't in that update at all: Festival: Echo of Ancients runs 29 August to 9 October — ten days after the patch lands. That gap is the single most useful thing to know going in, because D.G. Members logging in on the 19th expecting an archaeology festival will find features and furniture instead. Here's what arrives when, and the three conditions that decide whether you ever see the hot air balloon take off.

What arrives on 19 August

Friendship Styling — a new two-person styling mode. You can help friends style their outfits, but there's a requirement worth noting: you have to meet face-to-face with the friend in-game to style a look for them. It isn't a menu you can open remotely.

Selfie Mode — added to the existing photo feature, letting you take selfies with friends around town. One stated limitation: Selfie Mode is not currently supported underwater. Given how much of Heartopia's recent content has been ocean-themed, that's worth knowing before you swim somewhere scenic expecting to capture it.

Closet Category Optimization — clothing categories have been reorganised to make accessories easier to find. Quality-of-life rather than content, but anyone who has hunted for a specific pair of earrings through an unsorted closet will appreciate it.

Bob's Furniture Store: Barber Shop set — new themed furniture letting you build a hair salon at home. Chairs, mirrors, wash basins and product shelving, judging by the preview.

Hot Air Balloon Event — covered below, because its conditions deserve their own section.

The Hot Air Balloon has three conditions

This is the item most likely to be missed, because it doesn't run on a timer you can check.

The hot air balloon on Whale Mountain takes off automatically on weekends, when the weather is clear, at dusk. All three conditions have to line up.

Once it's flying, you can find the [Gazing Boy] and choose between two routes:

• [Town Sky Tour]

Three simultaneous conditions is unusually restrictive for a Heartopia activity, and it means a rainy weekend simply removes the opportunity until the following week. If you want the ride, plan for a clear weekend evening rather than assuming you'll stumble into it.

Festival: Echo of Ancients

The update's largest piece of content, and it starts 29 August, running until 9 October (Server Time) — six weeks.

The theme is archaeology: tracing the marks of ancient times across the wilds and beneath the soil.

Slab Mining is the festival's core activity, available in two locations:

• [Onsen Mountain Ruins]
• [Spirit-Oak Pine Forest]

Mining there gives a chance to obtain slab pieces.

Alongside it, the festival brings:

• Festival-exclusive furniture and building materials
• Festival-exclusive flowers, birds, fish, insects and crops

That last line is the one collectors should read twice. Heartopia's hobby systems — birdwatching, insect catching, fishing, farming — all feed collection logs, and festival-exclusive species are only obtainable while the festival runs. Six weeks sounds generous until you realise seasonal spawns often depend on time of day, weather and location on top of the event window.

If completing collections matters to you, start the festival's species hunt early rather than in October.

Two dates, not one

Worth restating clearly because the announcement bundles them together:

Ten days separate them. The features arrive first; the festival arrives after.

What this update is really about

Reading the list together, the direction is clear: almost everything in the 19 August patch is social or creative rather than progression.

Friendship Styling requires a friend. Selfie Mode requires a friend to be worth using. The hot air balloon is a shared scenic ride. The Barber Shop furniture is for building something other people visit.

That's consistent with what Heartopia is — a multiplayer life simulation built around creativity and connection rather than combat or grinding — but it does mean solo players will get less from this particular patch than from the festival that follows.

What to do before the 19th

1. Clear your daily Resident Requests. Five per day, they reset at 06:00, and they don't carry over — the most reliable source of Contribution Medals for D.G. Member levelling.
2. Check your in-game mailbox. Heartopia routinely sends compensation gifts after updates with a claim deadline attached, and unclaimed mail expires.
3. Line up a friend for Friendship Styling. It's face-to-face content, so it needs coordination rather than just logging in.
4. Note a clear weekend evening for the balloon.
5. Diarise 29 August for the festival — the actual content deadline is 9 October, not the update date.

For newer D.G. Members
