Genshin 7.1 Vesna vs Vodyanitsa: Who Should You Pull?

Genshin Impact Version 7.1 puts two new Snezhnayan 5-stars on the same opening banner window, but Vesna and Vodyanitsa solve very different account problems. Vesna is an Anemo on-field DPS built around Spirit Blades and Stellar Swirl, while Vodyanitsa is a Hydro support who combines healing, resistance reduction, damage support, and off-field utility.

That makes this less of a straight power contest and more of a roster check. Pull Vesna if you need a new team centerpiece and already have pieces that can support Stellar Swirl. Pull Vodyanitsa if your account already has strong damage dealers and would benefit more from a flexible support slot. If your Primogems are limited, there is also a strong case for waiting until live testing confirms their final numbers.

Both banners arrive together in Version 7.1

Version 7.1 launches on September 23, 2026, with Vesna and Vodyanitsa featured in the first phase.

Vesna is a 5-star Anemo Sword character and Commander of the Druzhna. Her official combat preview positions her as an on-field attacker who converts Cryo Swirl into Stellar Swirl, then uses Spirit Blades and a resource called Sword Essence to drive her damage loop.

Vodyanitsa is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst character from the Korolevskiy Troupe. Her role is almost the opposite: she spends less time demanding the field and instead supports the active character through sustained healing, Hydro and Cryo resistance reduction, interruption resistance, ATK support, and additional Stellar Swirl amplification.

Vesna is the pull for players who want a new carry

Vesna's value starts with one simple fact: she wants to be on the field.

Her Elemental Skill moves her into a combat state where her attacks become Anemo-focused and her Spirit Blade mechanics take over. Sword Essence then fuels stronger follow-up attacks, while her Elemental Burst deals AoE Anemo damage and restores part of that resource.

Her biggest identity, however, is Stellar Swirl.

Vesna can convert Cryo Swirl reactions into Stellar Swirl, meaning she is not just another Anemo character using the old Swirl formula. She is designed as a centerpiece for the newer Snezhnayan reaction system introduced in the 7.x cycle.

That makes her attractive for accounts that:

• need a fresh on-field DPS,

• already have Cryo teammates they want to build around,

• have invested in Stellar reaction pieces from Version 7.0,

• prefer characters with active rotations instead of quick-swap support gameplay,

• value exploration mobility as part of a pull.

Vesna can also take flight during exploration thanks to her Vila abilities. The trade-off is that an on-field carry needs a team built around her. If your account already has several strong carries competing for field time, another one can be harder to justify.

Vodyanitsa compresses several support jobs into one slot

Vodyanitsa is easier to understand if you stop viewing her as a Hydro damage dealer first.

Her Elemental Skill transforms her into her Water Imp form and creates a sustained support state. During that period, she can heal the active character, improve interruption resistance, and reduce enemy Hydro and Cryo RES. Her song also interacts with Stellar Vortices, reducing Anemo RES and increasing Stellar Swirl reaction damage.

That is a lot of utility packed into one party slot.

For accounts that already own strong carries, this type of role compression can be more useful than adding another DPS. A support who covers healing while also contributing offensive buffs makes team building less restrictive because another slot can be dedicated to damage or elemental application.

Vodyanitsa makes the most sense if you:

• already have one or more reliable on-field DPS characters,

• want support for Cryo, Hydro, or Stellar Swirl-focused teams,

• need healing without giving up all offensive utility,

• dislike being interrupted during long attack strings,

• prefer a character whose value comes from enabling several teammates.

Vodyanitsa can also move rapidly through water in her Water Imp form, adding useful exploration value.

The real choice is carry versus support

For most accounts, this is the cleanest way to separate the two banners.

Vesna creates a team. Vodyanitsa improves teams you already have.

A newer account with weak main DPS options may feel Vesna's impact immediately. She gives you a clear character to place at the center of a rotation, then you can build the rest of the roster around her reaction requirements.

An older account with multiple established carries may get less value from replacing one of them. In that situation, Vodyanitsa's healing, resistance reduction, and support package can open more combinations without forcing you to bench another invested DPS.

That does not automatically make Vodyanitsa more valuable overall. Supports and carries simply solve different roster bottlenecks.

Existing Stellar Swirl investment changes the answer

Version 7.0 already started building the Stellar reaction ecosystem, so players who invested early have a different decision from players entering it for the first time.

If you already built characters around Cryo and Anemo interactions, Vesna gives that investment a dedicated on-field direction. She is the more obvious choice when your account has the support structure but lacks the main damage dealer to capitalize on it.

Vodyanitsa approaches the same ecosystem from the support side. Her ability to help Stellar Swirl while also contributing sustain makes her especially interesting when the rest of your team already produces enough damage.

Who should F2P players prioritize?

Free-to-play players should be stricter because pulling both opening characters is rarely realistic without a large reserve.

Choose Vesna if your roster needs a primary DPS and you are willing to build around Stellar Swirl.

Choose Vodyanitsa if your damage roster is already healthy and support depth is the bigger weakness.

There is also a third option: skip both on day one.

What we still need to verify after launch

This comparison is based on the official Version 7.1 character previews and confirmed combat roles. It deliberately avoids treating pre-release beta values as final.

The questions that still matter once the live build is available include:

• final talent multipliers,

• real energy requirements,

• practical rotation length,

• how consistently each character maintains Stellar Swirl conditions,

• best artifact and weapon gaps between premium and accessible options,

• how much Vodyanitsa improves existing teams compared with current supports,

• how Vesna performs without premium teammates.

Those details can change pull efficiency even if the basic roles remain the same. Undecided players lose very little by waiting for live testing before committing pity.

Vesna or Vodyanitsa? Match the pull to your roster

There is no reason to force one answer onto every account.

Go for Vesna when you want an Anemo carry, enjoy active field time, and already have the Cryo or Stellar pieces needed to support her. She is the more direct roster upgrade when your missing piece is the character actually dealing the damage.

Go for Vodyanitsa when you already trust your carries and want a support who can heal, reduce resistance, stabilize rotations, and contribute to Stellar Swirl teams from a lower-field-time role.

And if neither description sounds like a problem your account currently has, saving remains completely valid.
