Delta Force's Fishing Mini-Mode Lands in an Extraction Map

Team Jade has detailed Delta Force's fishing mechanic, arriving with Season Reorientation on 8 September as part of the game's second anniversary — and it's considerably more involved than the key art suggested.

Fishing rods can be configured much like weapons. You build a loadout for them before heading to the water, the same way you'd tune an assault rifle. That's not a minigame with a progress bar. That's a second gear system.

It also lands on Layali Grove, an Operations map, which is where things stay interesting.

The rod loadout is the real story

Most shooters that add fishing add a diversion — press a button, wait, receive a fish. Delta Force is doing something else.

Configuring a rod like a weapon implies a system with tradeoffs. Weapons in Delta Force are built from attachments that push different attributes in different directions, and you tune them for a role rather than maximising one number. If rods follow that structure, then fishing has its own equivalents — presumably around what you can catch, where, and how reliably.

That has a consequence worth noting: fishing becomes something you can be good or bad at, and something you can invest in. A player who has thought about their rod setup will out-fish one who hasn't. Whether that investment competes with your combat loadout for the same currencies is unannounced, and it matters — because if rod attachments cost the same resources as weapon attachments, "relaxing" carries a price.

Layali Grove is being rebuilt around it

Fishing isn't being dropped onto the existing map. Layali Grove is receiving what Team Jade calls a highly requested upgrade, and the changes are specifically watery.

New zones are being added — press coverage of the announcement has cited both three and four, so treat the exact count as unsettled until the patch notes land — alongside fully reworked waterways that open new routes and exploration opportunities.

Brand-new water vehicles arrive with it, giving players more ways to traverse the map.

New characters, quests and activities are also being added to the region.

So the map is getting navigable water, boats to move across it, and a reason to stop at the water's edge. Fishing is one part of a coherent redesign rather than a bolt-on, which is a better sign for it being properly integrated.

The extraction question, partly answered

The original tension still stands: Layali Grove is an Operations map, the extraction mode where you bring gear in and can lose it. Standing still by water is not a natural instinct there.

Team Jade's framing — a relaxed way to spend time between high-stakes battles — suggests fishing is positioned as downtime rather than another raid risk. But "between battles" is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and it isn't clear whether it means between raids or during them.

The unanswered specifics still determine what this actually is:

Is fishing PvP-safe? If the water is contested, fishing is a deliberate vulnerability. If it isn't, it's a genuine break.

Are catches lootable? A fish that can be taken off your body is raid loot with extra steps.

Does it consume raid time? Operations runs on a clock, and time at the water is time not spent extracting.

Do rod attachments compete with weapon resources? This is the one most likely to catch players out.

What are the rewards? Cosmetics, currency, quest progress and gear are very different propositions.

Rover and Clover, expanded

The same announcement filled in the new Support Operator's kit, and it's more offensive than the initial teaser implied.

Rover focuses on creating rescue windows that let downed or incapacitated squads push forward rather than retreat. Clover spots and tracks threats, feeding the squad information.

The detail that changed: Rover's aerosol injectors cleanse friendly debuffs and anomalies while also weakening enemies. The first reveal described only the cleansing half. A support tool that debuffs the opposition at the same time is a meaningfully stronger design than a pure healer.

The rest of Season Reorientation

Launch: 8 September, as the first chapter of Delta Force's second anniversary.

The Mog arrives as a new Warfare map, inspired by Black Hawk Down and built with photorealistic environments — a notably different pitch from the game's existing Warfare rotation.

3,900 time-limited delta tickets are available across the season, with the anniversary celebrations proper beginning on 26 September.

Worth noting for anyone sitting on currency: existing limited-time delta tickets expire on 3 September at 23:59 UTC, five days before the season opens. Those are a separate batch from the anniversary's 3,900, and letting them lapse while waiting for new content is an easy mistake.

Spend your expiring delta tickets before 3 September. They lapse at 23:59 UTC, five days before the season launches, and they are not the anniversary batch.

Finish Season Meltdown objectives. Battle Pass progress doesn't carry into Reorientation.

Hold off on relearning Layali Grove routes. With reworked waterways and new zones, current route knowledge is about to be partially obsolete. Learn the new map once it exists.

Don't dismiss fishing as filler. A customisable gear system attached to it means there's likely a progression track behind it, and progression tracks in Delta Force tend to pay out in things you can use elsewhere.

Mark 26 September for the anniversary celebrations, which run separately from the season launch on the 8th.
