Brawl Stars Meta After the August Balance Patch: Who's Still Strong
By Sir Ayup 11 August 2026, 04:00 WIB
The 4 August balance maintenance reshuffled the top of Brawl Stars more than its size suggested. Heading into August, top-ladder trackers broadly agreed on a six-name S-tier: Edgar, Surge, Sirius, Nori, Starr Nova and Brock. After the patch landed and community re-votes settled, that list contracted sharply — only Nori and Surge held their S placement in post-patch community rankings. Starr Nova took the heaviest hit of anyone. One important caveat before the details: Supercell did not publish an official patch-notes page for the 4 August maintenance, so the numbers below come from data trackers and community documentation rather than from the developer.
What changed on 4 August
The maintenance touched a small number of Brawlers, but three of them were sitting at the top:
- Sirius — NanoPower shadow health cut from 40% to 30%, and shadow spawn rate slowed from 8 seconds to 16 seconds. That's a halving of uptime on the mechanic his pressure was built on.
- Starr Nova — a heavy stat pass plus a slash-range cut. Two separate levers pulled at once, which is unusual and signals a Brawler the developers considered clearly over the line.
- Surge — trimmed more gently, with unload adjusted from 400 to 470. A tempo nerf rather than a power nerf.
- Edgar — buffed.
Sirius's change deserves the closest look. Halving spawn rate while also reducing shadow health doesn't just make him weaker — it changes how often his core mechanic is available at all, which affects his whole rhythm rather than his damage numbers.
Who's left at the top
Nori remains the standout. July's Legendary Assassin came out of the patch untouched, and the data behind her is striking: triple-Nori is currently the single most-winning team composition in the game, with tens of thousands of recorded wins on community trackers. When one Brawler stacked three times beats every conventional composition, that's a balance conversation waiting to happen.
Surge held S despite his trim. A gentle nerf to a Brawler with Hypercharge value and strong mobility doesn't dislodge him, and the current meta rewards exactly those two things.
Edgar moved the other way, coming out of the patch buffed — worth revisiting if you shelved him.
Starr Nova is the story of the patch
Being hit on stats and range in the same maintenance is the clearest statement Supercell can make without writing patch notes. Community reaction has been correspondingly blunt.
There's a pattern here worth recognising: recently released Brawlers frequently ship strong, dominate for a few weeks, and then get pulled back hard. If you invested heavily in Starr Nova during her peak, this is the familiar cost of chasing a fresh release rather than a mistake you made.
Why tier lists disagree right now
If you compare rankings this week, you'll find genuine contradictions rather than sloppy work. Two reasons:
Rank band changes the answer. Mortis is the cleanest example — he sits in S-tier at the very top of the ladder while ranking around B for typical accounts, because his numbers only work with mechanics most players haven't developed. A list built on top-200 data describes a different game from the one most people play.
Win rate and pick rate tell different stories. A Brawler with a high win rate and a very low pick rate is often being played by specialists, not performing well universally. A Brawler with a huge pick rate and a middling win rate may still have the highest ceiling in the game.
The practical filter: read the rank band a list is based on before you act on it, and weigh your own mechanical comfort against the Brawlers whose placement depends on execution.
Fusions change what any ranking can tell you
The bigger complication is structural. Season 53 Windstock replaced NanoPowers with Fusions, and the two systems work differently in a way that matters for tier lists.
Under NanoPowers, you chose one of two options at the start of each match — a decision you controlled. Fusions automatically combine two of a Brawler's three unlocked powers and apply both, which removes that choice and injects deliberate variance into every game.
The consequence: a Brawler's performance now depends partly on which powers combine, which no ranking can account for cleanly. Expect wider spread in results and a slower convergence on a stable meta than usual this season. Our Windstock breakdown covers how the system works in full.
What to actually do with this
- Don't rebuild your roster around a two-week-old ranking. Supercell has patched twice in five weeks, and the next Brawl Talk can reshuffle the board again.
- Upgrade the Brawlers you actually play. A Power 11 Brawler you know beats a Power 9 meta pick you don't.
- Revisit Edgar if you dropped him — he's the patch's clearest winner.
- Give Sirius a few games before writing him off. A spawn-rate nerf changes his rhythm rather than removing his kit; players who adapt to the slower cadence will find him usable.
- Wait for official notes before treating any specific number as settled. Supercell hasn't published them for 4 August.
What to watch next
Two things will move these rankings again shortly.
Wendy's arrival. The Mythic Support carrying the strongest team damage-reduction bubble in the game reshapes objective modes specifically — Gem Grab, Hot Zone, Brawl Ball and Knockout all change when a 75% reduction bubble can hold a point.
The next balance pass. Community documentation of an upcoming change list suggests another round is being prepared, with Starr Nova reportedly taking further adjustment. Treat that as unconfirmed until Supercell publishes it.
Climb while the meta is unsettled
The fortnight after a balance patch is the most winnable stretch of a season — most players are still running last month's picks, and the ones who adapt first bank the trophies before the meta settles.
