Brawl Stars' Brawler Blast Update: Cosmo, Vince, and Duolingo
By Michael Pras 30 August 2026, 20:00 WIB
Brawl Stars' latest Brawl Talk has revealed one of the bigger structural changes to hit the game in a while: a brand-new Brawler unlock system called Brawler Blast, alongside two new Mythic Brawlers, a surprise Duolingo collaboration, fresh seasonal content, and a handful of gameplay tweaks. The update is expected to arrive around September 1, though Supercell has noted this date could still shift.
New Brawler Unlock System: Brawler Blast
Brawler Blast is replacing Starr Road as the game's core Brawler progression system. Here's how it works:
- Once players collect enough Credits, they enter the Brawler Blast screen and tap to unlock a random Brawler from a specific rarity tier.
- Every time a Brawler is unlocked through Brawler Blast, there's a chance to get that Brawler with an instant progression boost, ranging from a few bonus levels all the way up to a full Power Level 11 complete with Gadget, Star Power, Gear, or Hypercharge already unlocked.
- As compensation for the system change, players can claim 1,500 free Credits from the Shop during the transition.
Compared to Starr Road, which gave players clear control over exactly which Brawler they were working toward, Brawler Blast introduces more randomness to the process while tying progression more directly to the moment a Brawler is actually unlocked. This fits into Supercell's broader push to move away from paid early-access models and let more players unlock new Brawlers through regular gameplay.
Two New Mythic Brawlers
Cosmo (Releasing September)
Cosmo is a genius scientist robot and part of a new trio based at the Starr Park Observatory. His kit centers on orbiting projectiles:
- Main Attack: Fires projectiles that orbit in a circle. The farther out they orbit, the bigger they get and the more damage they deal.
- Super: Launches a magnet at an enemy that pulls in every shot from both Cosmo and his teammates toward that same target, concentrating a lot of damage onto one spot.
Vince (Releasing October)
Vince is a bizarre barista Brawler working out of the insect-themed Cryptic Cafe. His mechanics revolve around caterpillars and moths:
- Special Mechanic: Spawns caterpillars around himself that transform into moths if they're stepped on or shot.
- Main Attack: Throws coffee cups, which deal bonus damage against enemies currently affected by his Super.
- Super: Releases a swarm of gathered moths. The more moths collected beforehand (up to a maximum of 20), the more powerful the Super becomes.
Special Collaboration: Brawl Stars × Duolingo
In an unexpected crossover, Brawl Stars is teaming up with Duolingo for a limited-time event:
- Duolingo Boss Mode (up to 20 players): Players face off against Duolingo's green owl mascot inside a classroom setting. Duo quizzes players with questions, and players need to move to the area representing the correct answer to gain a buff, or take damage if they get it wrong.
- Community Event (starting September 19): Rewards include Duolingo-themed cosmetics, Chaos Drops, and a free Brawler Spike for players who don't already own him.
New Seasons and Skin Themes
September: Royal & Monster Academy (Back to School)
The September season leans into a back-to-school theme, with several skins tied to a royal-and-monster academy aesthetic:
- Brawl Pass skins: Principal Nani (with Head Teacher and Queen variants) and Head Coach Hank (with Trainer and Team Captain variants).
- Other skins: Drum Major Maisie, Academy Mandy, Trash Goblin Darryl, and more.
October: Brawloween
October shifts into Brawl Stars' recurring Halloween theme, Brawloween:
- Brawl Pass skins: Fortune Teller Mr. P and Earth Shade.
- Other skins: Dr. Bellenstein, Valentine's Monster Piper, Flame Rider Chuck, and Terrenaut Damien.
Moon Festival & Supercell MAKE
Rounding out the seasonal content, Moon Festival brings Moonlight Lola and Moonlight Eve, alongside a batch of community-created Supercell MAKE skins: Retro Kit, Jormungandr Doug, Bone Collector Alli, Twilight Queen Lily, and Gravestone Griff.
New Game Modes and Additional Features
- Hide and Seek & Prop Hunt Modifier: A new mode where one player becomes the seeker and three players hide. The Prop Hunt modifier lets hiding players disguise themselves as props or walls while standing still.
- New "Buffies" and Hypercharges: Kit-specific ability upgrades are coming for the Poco's Bandstand trio, the Ghost Station trio (Gus, Chuck, and Shade), El Primo, and Amber, alongside brand-new Hypercharges for Nori and Wendy.
- Chuck Rework: Chuck now starts matches with 4 instant Super charges, but his Super no longer recharges automatically over time.
- UI and Quality-of-Life Improvements: The Brawler selection menu is getting a wider layout along with a new search bar, making it easier to find specific Brawlers.
When Does It Arrive?
The update is targeting a release around September 1, though Supercell has flagged that this date is still subject to change. Given how much is packed into this update, from a full progression system overhaul to two new Brawlers and a completely unexpected Duolingo crossover, it's shaping up to be one of the more significant Brawl Stars updates in recent memory.
