AFK Journey New Hero: Karma, the Malice-Type Twinborn Tank
By Michael Pras
AFK Journey's Version 1.7.4 update is rolling out its second new hero of the patch: Karma, an A-Level Graveborn Tank confirmed to join the roster on September 17, available on Google Play, the App Store, and Windows. He follows Eryndor, the Graveborn hero who launched with the update earlier in the month, giving Version 1.7.4 back-to-back Graveborn additions rather than spreading new heroes across factions.
Who Is Karma
Karma carries the subtitle "Twinborn Malice," and the concept is literal rather than cosmetic — he's built as two brothers, Kar and Mar, sharing a single body. It's a Physical-damage Tank with Range 1, voiced by Corey Holland, and his two defining traits are called out directly as Twinborn Form and Vitality Growth — both pointing toward a kit built around scaling HP and defensive stats rather than raw burst.
Kit Breakdown
Karma's abilities lean heavily into a heal-to-grow mechanic that ties every skill back into his HP pool:
- Bottled Bloodlust (Skill): Kar downs a potion, recovering a portion of his max HP every second for a set duration. Mar then strikes forward with a rapid flurry of axe blows, damaging each target hit, with the final strike knocking enemies down for a few seconds.
- Toxic Mosh Pit (Skill): Kar drenches himself in special potions, creating a damage pool around himself for a set duration while Mar swings his battleaxe at nearby enemies. Karma recovers HP every second while standing inside his own pool.
- Unfettered Carnage (Ultimate Skill): Karma strikes a nearby enemy with his battleaxe, dealing damage and stunning the target, then triggers a delayed explosion at that location. The explosion's damage scales with the total healing Karma has received since the skill was last cast (up to a cap), and he recovers HP for every enemy the explosion hits.
- Sanguine Growth (Exclusive Skill): Karma grows stronger every time he receives healing — hitting set healing thresholds relative to his initial max HP permanently increases that max HP (up to a limit) and visibly grows his size. Once the max HP increase caps out, he gains bonus Physical DEF, Magic DEF, and Resilience on top of it.
- Sanguine Growth, upgraded: At +5, reaching the max HP cap permanently grants Karma Steadfast, and his axe strikes from both Toxic Mosh Pit and Bottled Bloodlust start dealing bonus damage based on his current max HP — turning his tankiness directly into extra pressure rather than pure survivability.
Role and Team Fit
Karma is positioned to specialize in Supreme Arena and AFK Stages, the game's longer, attrition-heavy content where a self-scaling HP pool has time to actually snowball. The official preview calls out Empowered Blast, Potion Regen, Stun & Knockdown, and Healing Stacks as his core spotlight traits — all consistent with a frontline that wants sustained incoming healing rather than burst protection.
Team Synergy
The official preview names four heroes as Karma's suggested synergy partners: Solise, Evie, Damian, and Shakir. None of the specific mechanical links between Karma and this group have been detailed yet beyond the pairing itself, but the shared thread is easy to infer from his kit — Karma's entire identity runs on incoming healing triggering Sanguine Growth, so partners who can reliably feed him HP over the course of a fight (rather than one-off burst heals) are what actually make his scaling worth building around. Treat this as a starting shortlist to test around rather than a locked team composition until more detailed team guides land closer to his September 17 release.
Karma's kit here comes straight from Farlight's own preview video, but as with any hero reveal ahead of launch, treat the specific numbers and thresholds as patch-preview figures rather than guaranteed day-one values — minor tuning between now and September 17 is common for AFK Journey's pre-release hero previews.
