Where Winds Meet 2.1 Update: New Bosses & Armament Drill
By Sir Ayup 6 September 2026, 22:00 WIB
Where Winds Meet's Version 2.1 update for 3 September brings a new martial arts path, a second new weapon type, four Inner Ways and two gear sets — and it arrives with a short clock attached.
Version 2.2, "Perilous Eminence," launches 16 September, thirteen days later, and it concludes the Hidden Mountain main story arc. Whatever you want from this drop, you have under two weeks to get it.
Here's what landed.
The short version
- Update went live 3 September, following non-disruptive maintenance from 5:00 AM (UTC+8). Servers now run Ver. 2.1.3 Clouded Revelation.
- Skystrike Gauntlets — new Martial Art from the Bamboocut – Draught path, built on Drunken Fist attacks.
- New Armament Drill — the event for trialling it, tutorial included.
- Riven Twinblades also added.
- Four new Inner Ways, plus the Tiltrim and Brimflow gear sets.
- Version 2.2 "Perilous Eminence" arrives 16 September.
Skystrike Gauntlets and the Armament Drill
The headline addition is a new Martial Art on the Bamboocut – Draught path: Skystrike Gauntlets, built around Drunken Fist attacks.
The New Armament Drill exists so you can try it before committing. The event lets you test the Skystrike Gauntlets Martial Art and includes a tutorial to teach the Drunken Fist moveset.
That's the part worth acting on early. Where Winds Meet's progression systems ask for real material investment once you commit to a path, and Armament Drill is a free trial of a discipline you'd otherwise be buying into blind. The same event format ran during Version 2.0 for the Bamboocut – Kite path, and the advice then was the same: kite it in the Drill before you spend upgrade materials.
Drunken Fist is not a conventional moveset. Styles built on unpredictable movement and off-rhythm timing tend to feel either excellent or unplayable depending on the player, which makes trialling it before investing more valuable here than for a straightforward weapon.
Riven Twinblades
The update also adds Riven Twinblades as a weapon option.
Where Winds Meet pairs weapon types with Martial Arts paths and Inner Ways rather than treating them as isolated stat sticks, so a new weapon type is a new build branch rather than a sidegrade. Version 2.0 added Gauntlets and Rope Dart on the same principle.
Four Inner Ways and two gear sets
Four new Inner Ways arrive with the update, alongside the Tiltrim and Brimflow gear sets.
Inner Ways are the layer where most build differentiation actually happens in Where Winds Meet, so four at once is a meaningful expansion of what's possible rather than a numbers bump. Two new gear sets landing simultaneously means the optimal pairings won't settle for a week or two — early build guides for these will be provisional.
Practical advice: don't rush to re-spec. Wait for the community to test the Tiltrim and Brimflow interactions with the new Inner Ways before spending materials on a rebuild.
The bosses
Version 2.1 introduces three new bosses: the Bell Toller from the Mirkvale campaign, and two World Bosses found in Suixiang.
Those sit alongside the two mechanical World Bosses that arrived earlier in 2.1 — the Inkpincer Scorpion and Cloudclutch Serpent in Hidden Mountain, both ancient creations tied to the Mohist disciples known as the Five Wonders. Challenging those two requires unlocking the Hidden Mountain map and mastering the Contortion Mystic Skill, and each carries its own Sword Forge Challenges with additional cosmetic and progression rewards.
First clears are where the value is. Defeating each boss for the first time awards Inner Way Note: Custom Chest, Medicinal Tales, Echo Jade and more — and with four new Inner Ways in the same update, Inner Way Notes are worth more this fortnight than they were last month.
What 2.1 already brought
If you've been away since August, the 3 September drop is the second half of a larger update.
Version 2.1 "Clouded Revelation" launched 20 August, continuing the Hidden Mountain storyline with Heaven's Threshold — a high-altitude area of towering peaks and vertical exploration, unlocked through the Cloudtop Ascent server-wide event where players rebuild the Cloudstair together before anyone can ride it up.
That drop also added the Peltwing Squirrel Oddity, a Meow Meow minigame called Flying Back, the Gilded Boar-tisan hat at Artisan tier, and Pangolin Peddler — a trading business management activity where you buy local goods and move them to regions with higher demand.
The 16 September deadline
This is the piece most coverage isn't framing properly.
Version 2.2 "Perilous Eminence" releases on 16 September, and it concludes the Hidden Mountain main story arc.
Thirteen days between content drops is a short window by this game's standards, and an arc conclusion typically brings its own events, rewards and progression targets. Anything you leave unfinished from Clouded Revelation — Sword Forge Challenges, boss first clears, the Armament Drill trial period, event appearances — is competing with a major update landing on top of it.
The sensible order: clear the time-limited things first. Events and trial windows close. World bosses and Inner Ways don't.
One thing I couldn't verify
The official update page for 3 September publishes its details entirely as images rather than text, and one element circulating around this update — an "Ascendancy 17" progression tier — doesn't appear in any accessible source.
Where Winds Meet's documented progression systems use different terminology: Breakthroughs, Solo Play Levels and Exploration Days, with level caps tied to Solo Mode progression. Whether Ascendancy is a new system, a renamed one, or a localisation variant isn't something available material confirms.
Check the in-game progression menu rather than relying on any guide for that specific term until it's documented.
What to do this fortnight
Run the New Armament Drill before committing materials. Free trials of a martial arts path are rare, and Drunken Fist is distinctive enough that trying it matters.
Prioritise boss first clears. Inner Way Notes are unusually valuable right now with four new Inner Ways to fill.
Hold off on re-speccing. Two new gear sets plus four Inner Ways means the good pairings aren't known yet.
Finish event content before 16 September. Perilous Eminence lands in under two weeks and will pull attention with it.
Check your Ghost Month progress. That event closes 15 September, a day before 2.2.
Building the character behind it
New Inner Ways, gear sets and a martial arts path all ask for the same thing — the materials and progression to actually equip them — and that farming is the slow half of Where Winds Meet, not the unlocking. Browse verified Where Winds Meet accounts if you'd rather explore Hidden Mountain from a developed character, book Where Winds Meet hourly services to farm materials and clear event content before 16 September, or push world boss and endgame clears through Where Winds Meet boosting while Clouded Revelation runs.
