War Thunder Reveals FK-2000: China's New Rank VIII SAM
By Michael Pras 9 September 2026, 10:00 WIB
War Thunder has revealed the FK-2000, a new Chinese surface-to-air missile and gun system heading to Rank VIII of the ground forces tree. Announced through the game's official devblog, the FK-2000 pairs 12 anti-aircraft missiles with two six-barreled 30 mm autocannons on a mobile wheeled chassis — a combination the developers are pitching as one of the strongest missile-and-gun hybrids in the game.
At a Glance
- 12 anti-aircraft missiles
- Twin 30 mm six-barreled cannons, 4,000 rounds per minute each
- Mobile wheeled chassis
- Phased-array radar
- Moderately high profile
Using It in Battle
The FK-2000's job is covering short-to-medium range air threats for the team. Despite its size, Gaijin notes it's still more compact than most multi-vehicle SAM systems, which means it can tuck into defilade positions or hide behind buildings once it's found a spot to set up. From there, it watches the skies — but it isn't locked into that role. If a ground threat shows up, the FK-2000 can relocate quickly, or simply return fire with its cannons instead of retreating.
How It Compares to the Pantsir-S1
The developers draw a direct comparison to Russia's Pantsir-S1, and the FK-2000 comes out ahead in a few specific ways. Its missiles carry a slightly lower maximum load factor than the Pantsir's 95Ya6 missiles, but make up for it with higher speed and greater maximum range. The twin 30 mm autocannons match that same aggressive profile — each barrel set fires at 4,000 rounds per minute, and the chassis itself is faster than the Pantsir's. The trade-off is ammo supply: at that fire rate, the 1,000-round magazine empties fast, so trigger discipline on the guns matters more here than on most SAM systems.
Where It Sits in the Tech Tree
Per the developer comment, the FK-2000 lands at Rank VIII of the Chinese ground vehicle tree, positioned between the CS/SA5 and the HQ11. The placement is deliberate — it's meant to complement the CS/SA5's radio-command guided missiles while sitting a step below the HQ11's operational range, giving the Chinese tree a clearer progression between the three rather than overlapping roles. Gaijin's broader point is that players generally prefer gun-missile hybrids over pure missile systems, since a gun option means the vehicle isn't defenseless the moment a ground threat gets close — the same logic that's shaped several other nations' SAM lines already in the game.
The Real FK-2000
The FK-2000 is a real system, developed by the Chinese state-owned defense contractor CASIC as an upgrade of the earlier FK-1000. The main change from its predecessor is firepower: it swaps the FK-1000's 23 mm cannons for the 30 mm PGZ-625 autocannons featured here, alongside extended-range missiles. It was built primarily for export rather than domestic service — the United Arab Emirates is its only confirmed customer, and the UAE has since passed some units on to Chad's army and Sudan's Rapid Support Forces. It never saw significant use within the People's Liberation Army itself.
As with any devblog reveal, treat the numbers above as a strong preview rather than a locked spec sheet — Gaijin has adjusted vehicle stats between announcement and release before, and the FK-2000 doesn't yet have a confirmed release date.
