Luffy’s Straw Hat Is Free in Rocket League x One Piece, Here Is How
By Sir Ayup
Rocket League x One Piece sets sail on November 1, and the Straw Hat Crew brings a mix of free rewards and new Shop items with it. The One Piece LTE runs until November 23, with challenges that unlock Luffy's Straw Hat Topper, a Going Merry trail and more, while Luffy and Going Merry decals and a Mercedes-AMG G 63 arrive in the Item Shop. At gamemarket.gg, we went through Psyonix's official announcement to list every free reward, how to earn it and which items you will need to buy.
When the One Piece LTE Starts and Ends
The event runs from November 1 at 9 AM PT until November 23 at 9 AM PT.
In other time zones, that start time is:
- 12 PM ET
- 17:00 UTC
- 6 PM CET
- November 2 at 1 AM in Singapore and the Philippines
That gives you a little over three weeks to finish the challenges.
Every Free One Piece Reward
The free rewards come from Challenges. Here is what Psyonix has confirmed:
- Luffy's Straw Hat Topper: score a hat trick in an Online Match
- Straw Hat Crew Boost: keep the ball moving with centers and clears, and earn a Boost inspired by the crew's wanted posters
- Going Merry Sea Trail: rack up points in Online Matches to take the crew's ship along for the ride
- One Piece Antenna: earned through Challenges
- Two Player Banners: earned through Challenges
- Up to five Treasure Chests: earned by playing Online Matches
The official images show the Topper as Luffy's straw hat sitting on top of an Octane, with the Antenna flying a Straw Hat Jolly Roger flag.
How to Earn Each Reward
Straw Hat Topper. This is the hardest of the three main rewards, because it asks for a hat trick, which means scoring three goals in a single Online Match. Casual playlists can make that easier to hit than a tight ranked game.
Straw Hat Crew Boost. This challenge rewards team play. Centers send the ball into the middle of the field near the opposing goal, and clears hit it away from your own goal. Playing a rotating role and touching the ball often will fill this one naturally.
Going Merry Sea Trail. Points add up from almost everything you do in a match, so this one should complete just by playing Online Matches regularly.
Treasure Chests. You can earn up to five by playing Online Matches, so a few sessions spread across the event should be enough.
Psyonix has not shared the exact targets, such as how many centers, clears or points each challenge needs. Those numbers should be visible in the in-game Challenges menu once the event begins.
One Piece Items in the Item Shop
Several One Piece items are paid and appear in the Item Shop instead of the challenge list.
From November 1:
- Luffy Decal for the Octane and Fennec
- Going Merry Decal for the Octane and Fennec
- Wheels
- High Tides Goal Explosion
The official screenshots show both decals on both cars. The Luffy version uses Luffy's red and blue colors, while the Going Merry version gives the car a wooden ship look.
From November 7:
- Mercedes-AMG G 63 with One Piece Decals
The G 63 is the only new car in the collab, and its promo image shows it in red with Straw Hat Jolly Roger designs on the wheels.
Psyonix has not shared prices for any of the Shop items yet. They should appear once each item lands in the Shop.
What We Still Do Not Know
A few details are missing ahead of launch:
- prices for the decals, Wheels, goal explosion and G 63
- the exact challenge targets for each reward
- which challenges unlock the Antenna and Player Banners
- whether the items will be sold as bundles or separately
Tips Before the Event Starts
- Start with the Topper. It is the only reward that needs a specific result, so it is worth chasing early instead of on the last day.
- Play your usual playlists. The Boost, Trail and Treasure Chests all fill up through regular Online Matches.
- Plan for two Shop dates. The decals and goal explosion arrive on November 1, but the G 63 waits until November 7, so you may not want to spend everything on day one.
One Piece follows straight after the Haunted Hallows event. If you missed it, our guide to the Five Nights at Freddy's collab and its free rewards shows how those challenges worked.
Log in after November 1 at 9 AM PT, go for the hat trick first and finish the rest before November 23.
