Nikke's Drake: Great Villain: Banner Dates and What's Known
By Rivan Wi 1 September 2026, 02:00 WIB
Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is bringing back Drake in a powered-up form. Drake: Great Villain arrives as an SSR unit, with Pick Up recruitment running from 3 September after maintenance until 17 September at 04:59 (UTC+9).
The announcement gives Commanders the dates and the name. It doesn't give the kit — no code, no Burst position, no class, no weapon. That's a two-week window opening on a unit nobody can currently evaluate.
Here's what's confirmed, why this release fits a pattern SHIFT UP has been building since July, and what to settle before the banner opens.
What's confirmed
- Drake: Great Villain is an SSR unit, described as the Villain Union's leader returning in a powered-up form.
- Pick Up recruitment runs 3 September (after maintenance) to 17 September, 04:59 (UTC+9).
That's the extent of it. Everything else — including whether she's a limited unit or joins the permanent pool — is unannounced.
One note on timing: the announcement text uses UTC+9. NIKKE runs Global, SEA, JP and KR clients, and maintenance timing isn't always identical across them. Check the banner countdown in your own client rather than converting from someone else's region.
Who Drake actually is
For Commanders who haven't run the Missilis storylines, the joke at the centre of this character is the whole point of the name.
Drake belongs to Matis, Missilis Industry's top squad, which answers personally to CEO Syuen. Her practical value to the squad is her ability to scan for radio waves and Raptures — the reason Matis operates as effectively as it does on the surface.
Her personal ambition is to be remembered as a villain.
She is extremely bad at this. Her attempts at evil are either trivially petty or backfire into accidental good deeds that raise her reputation as a hero. She's described, in essence, as far too nice for the career she's chosen.
That makes "Great Villain" a title with an edge to it. Whether the unit represents Drake genuinely stepping into villainy or the game leaning further into the joke is a story question the banner art alone doesn't answer.
There's a neat symmetry here too: Laplace, her squadmate, wants to be a hero — and her recent unit was titled Ultimate Hero. Matis is being built out as a set of characters chasing labels that don't quite fit them.
This continues the Matis buildout
Drake: Great Villain isn't arriving in isolation. SHIFT UP has been developing the Matis squad steadily across 2026.
The April 2026 "GOOD WORLD" update introduced the Treasure system, with Favorite Item upgrades for both Laplace and Drake — the first significant investment in either character in some time.
The July 2026 "Project Matis" update then made the squad its narrative centrepiece, covering the Third Surface Reclamation War and Syuen's flagship team, while releasing Laplace: Ultimate Hero and Maxwell: Ordinary Mechanic as new SSR units.
Drake: Great Villain in September reads as the next step in that sequence rather than a standalone release. If you've been building Missilis units through the year, this is likely the unit the previous two were pointing toward.
The element question
Here's where the missing information bites hardest.
Both Laplace: Ultimate Hero and Maxwell: Ordinary Mechanic arrived as Missilis Wind units. If Drake: Great Villain follows the same pattern, she would slot directly into the Wind teams those two anchor.
That is speculation, not information. SHIFT UP has not announced her code, and squad affiliation has never guaranteed elemental consistency in NIKKE. Alternate versions of existing characters routinely change code, class and Burst position from their base forms — that's frequently the entire point of releasing them.
Base Drake's weapon is the Sadistic Carnival. Whether Great Villain keeps it is likewise unannounced.
The practical consequence: you cannot currently determine whether she fills a hole in your roster. A Wind Burst III Attacker and an Iron Burst II Supporter are entirely different acquisitions, and until the kit drops, both are equally possible.
What isn't known
- Her code — Fire, Water, Wind, Iron or Electric.
- Her Burst position — I, II or III.
- Her class — Attacker, Defender or Supporter.
- Her weapon type and skill kit.
- Whether she's limited or enters the permanent pool. This is the single most important unknown for pull planning.
- Whether an accompanying event, free rewards or a story chapter runs alongside the banner.
The limited-versus-permanent question deserves emphasis. A limited unit means the 17 September deadline is real and missing it costs you the character indefinitely. A permanent-pool unit means the deadline is only a rate-up, and skipping costs you nothing but convenience. Those lead to opposite decisions, and nothing published so far distinguishes them.
Timing and competing pulls
The banner opens on 3 September, which places it shortly after NIKKE's Persona collaboration, launched 13 August across Persona 3 Reload, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal.
If you spent heavily on Queen or Yukiko, your Gem reserve is likely thinner than usual heading into September. That's worth confronting now rather than on the 3rd.
NIKKE's Pick Up banners use a point-based guarantee at a fixed pull threshold, which means the worst-case cost of securing her is knowable in advance — check the banner's details screen for the exact figure on your client. Working out whether you can actually reach that threshold, before the banner opens, is the difference between a plan and a hope.
What to do before 3 September
Bank Gems. With the kit unpublished, this is the only preparation that's certainly useful.
Wait for the kit before committing. Two weeks is a comfortable window. There's no advantage to pulling on day one over day three, and the skill breakdown will be public within hours of release.
Check your Missilis and Wind depth. If she does land as Wind, the value depends entirely on whether Laplace and Maxwell are already built on your account. If they're sitting at base investment, a third unit for that core may not be where your resources should go.
Don't assume she's limited. And don't assume she isn't. Confirm before letting a countdown drive the decision.
Building the roster behind her
An SSR only performs on an account with the Overload gear, Harmony Cubes and Sync levels behind her — and in NIKKE that investment is the slow half, not the recruitment.
