August is a transition month for strikers, and that shapes every decision you make this month. The World Cup content wave closed on 23 July, taking its free cards and daily packs with it. The campaigns still running expire on 10 and 13 August. And the Season Update lands mid-month, bringing updated squads, new card releases and two tactical systems that change which forward profiles are worth fielding. In other words, the CF meta you're playing right now has roughly a fortnight left — which makes holding your coins the strongest play for most managers, not chasing the current best striker.

What closed on 23 July

The Football Festival campaign ran from 4 June to 23 July as eFootball's World Cup-themed event, and it was unusually generous: free versions of Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal simply for logging in, an Epic Steven Gerrard, live-updating World Cup cards, and hundreds of free coins.

Alongside it, Player of the Day International Cup packs released daily through the tournament, each available for 48 hours, costing 100 coins per spin with six featured players per pack. The International Cup 2026 event mode let you pick a national team and play through group and knockout stages for progression items and coins.

All of it expired with the campaign. Those cards are no longer obtainable, and the rewards can't be claimed retroactively. If you missed the window, that's a closed door — not a gap you can fill with coins now.

Why World Cup cards feel different in August

This is the part most managers notice without understanding.

Three routes remain open, and two of them cost nothing:

For a striker-shaped hole in your squad, the Selection Contract is the best value available this month by a wide margin. It's free, it's a choice rather than a draw, and the forwards on the list are genuine first-team options.

What actually wins matches this month

With the meta about to reset, the useful advice isn't a name ranking — it's making sure the striker you already have is doing his job.

Check that his playstyle matches your build-up. A Goal Poacher needs a team that plays forward quickly; a Deep-Lying Forward needs runners beyond him; a Fox in the Box needs width and service. Most underperforming strikers aren't bad cards, they're mismatched ones — and fixing that costs nothing.

What the Season Update does to strikers

Mid-August brings the changes that make this month's rankings temporary:

• Updated real-world squads after the summer transfer window, plus new ratings across the board.
• New Epic, Big Time and Show Time releases with the usual rating inflation — current cards already sit in the 106-108 range, and season updates historically push that further.
• Fluid Formation, letting you run separate attacking and defending shapes, which raises the value of forwards who contribute in both phases and puts single-phase specialists under more scrutiny.
• Overload, a Team Playstyle that concentrates players near the ball, favouring strikers comfortable receiving in tight spaces over pure runners into open ones.

That last pair is the meaningful part for CF specifically. A striker whose value is entirely about attacking space behind a defensive line is a different proposition in a system built to congest the area around the ball.

What to do for the rest of August

• Take the free routes first — Treasure Link before 10 August, the Campaign Hub before the 13th.
• Hold your coins. Buying a headline striker days before a rating reset is the most reliably regretted purchase in the eFootball calendar.
• Don't pour training materials into Standard-card forwards you're unsure about. Konami has confirmed that some Standard cards will become unavailable due to licence changes, with implementation scheduled for September or later.
• Reassess after the update, not before. Once the new pool lands and the meta settles, the striker that fits your system may not be the one topping any list today.
