CODM Season 8: One of Three Honkai Impact 3rd Mythics, Free — What That Actually Means
By Sir Ayup 29 August 2026, 00:00 WIB
Three Mythic weapons. One choice. Earned through in-game tasks, no draw required.
That is not a normal CODM announcement. Mythics sit at the top of the game's monetisation — they're the premium tier, obtained through Mythic Drop lucky draws, and they are the reason players talk about CODM cosmetics in terms of hundreds of dollars rather than a few hundred CP.
Making one earnable through tasks is a structural change to how the most expensive item in the game is distributed — at least for this collaboration.
What's confirmed
- Starting in Season 8, players can complete in-game tasks to earn one of three Honkai Impact 3rd Mythic weapons.
- One, not three. The phrasing is explicit — three exist, you choose one.
- More details are still to come. The task list, the event structure, the weapon classes and the completion window have not been published.
"Stay tuned for more info" is doing a lot of work there, and the missing details are precisely the ones that determine whether this is a weekend of play or a season-long grind.
The precedent worth knowing
CODM has done this before, and the pattern is informative.
The Katana spent multiple seasons as a draw-only item before being released as a free grind reward through the Sharpened Skills Featured Event. To earn it, players completed tasks tied to the weapon's identity — melee kills, Backstabber medals, kills with Dead Silence equipped.
Expect the same shape here. A Featured Event with a task ladder, objectives themed to the weapon you're chasing, and a completion window bounded by the season.
Which means the practical constraint will be time, not money — and that time will be spent on specific, sometimes awkward objectives rather than ordinary matches.
The advice that matters right now
Do not spend on a Mythic Drop until the free task list is published.
This is the whole point of the article. If you were saving CP for a Mythic this season, and one of the three free options turns out to be the weapon class you actually needed, drawing early converts a free item into an expensive one. The announcement says three weapons exist — it doesn't say which, and it doesn't say what else appears in the collaboration's paid draws.
Wait for the reveal, then decide. Nothing about this event is going anywhere before Season 8 starts.
And think about the choice in advance. "One of three" means you'll be picking a weapon class, not just a skin. A Mythic you never equip is worth less than an Epic you use every match — so the correct pick is the class you already play, not the flashiest model.
The collaboration around it
Announced 7 August 2026 at the CODM Season 7 anniversary livestream, the Honkai Impact 3rd crossover is the first-ever game collaboration between Tencent and miHoYo — which is why it registered as news well outside CODM's usual audience.
The teaser opened on Honkai Impact 3rd's Hyperion Bridge elevator before revealing the joint logo, and CODM's Bilibili account followed with key art showing silhouettes of Kiana Kaslana, Raiden Mei and Bronya Zaychik — the Herrscher trio.
Choosing that trio specifically was read by the community as a deliberate nod to Honkai's early story arcs rather than its current Part 2 roster, and it's a reasonable read: the three protagonists are the collaboration's most recognisable possible pick for an audience that mostly doesn't play Honkai.
Operator skins for the three are widely expected, though not officially confirmed at the time of writing.
Timing: the crossover launches in September during Season 8. One report placed the date at 3 September 2026 based on the teaser, but Activision has not confirmed a specific date.
What to do
- Don't draw for a Mythic yet. Wait for the free weapon list.
- Decide your weapon class before the reveal, so you're choosing on utility rather than presentation.
- Expect a Featured Event task ladder, likely themed to the weapon — budget playtime, not CP.
- Watch for the Season 8 roadmap. That's where the task list and dates will appear.
- Treat the 3 September date as unconfirmed until Activision posts it.
One free Mythic is genuinely worth planning around. The mistake available here isn't missing the event — it's spending real money on the thing you were about to be given.
